Another work with an equally fervent fan base? Euphoria,In which Zendaya stars as the troubled, complicated teen Rue.It’s a role that’s earned Zendaya the Emmy for Lead Actress not once, but twice. Recently news broke that preparations for season three are underway. On the topic, ZendayaIs understandably tight lipped.“We haven’t started just yet, butIn time,” she says. “There’s not really too much to share there yet, because we haven’t really gotten there yet.”Taylor Swift’s romantic lifeIs a source of endless scrutiny, as herIntensely personal song lyrics have led to plenty of theories about how they apply to her own relationships. Now, she and her long term partner, the British actor JoeAlwyn, have (allegedly) gone their separate ways and are doingItIn the most dignified way possible, with an “insider” telling Entertainment Tonight that the couple had parted amicably and without any drama. Underscoring that fact? Swift was photographed out for dinnerIn New York this weekIn an unusually casual look for the singer: a pair of grey washAgolde jeans with a criss cross waistband and a black T shirt with a buttoned V neckline.Instead of her usual heels, she finished the outfit with a pair of chunky combat boots by The Row, the zip front style that has become a hero shoe for the brand with anImpressive list of celebrity fans,Including the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Hailey Bieber and Zoë Kravitz. All – unlike Swift – fans of minimalist luxury.

In the past, the most prominent feeling that arose whenI got dressed was discomfort.I never wore anything too “feminine” or revealing becauseIt attracted unwanted sexual attention from men.I also never wore anything too “masculine” out of fear that people might thinkI looked, well, gay. Tailored clothing, like my vintage men’sArmani blazers from the RealReal and Brandon Maxwell trousers from 11 Honoré, made me feel most powerful. Since those pieces were hard to findIn plus sizes,I even built my own brand of suiting, called Henning (now part of Universal Standard). These modest, structured, menswearInspired pieces were my armor.

Beyond suiting,I find myself wearing things to signal thatI am part of the queer community. With a little bit of research,I learned that fashionItems like thumb rings, septum piercings, vests, and cargo pants are talismans of lesbianism. The first timeI wore my Mejuri septum cuff,I felt like such a fraud thatI tookIt off half way through the evening, but asI'make pieces like my Monse cargo pants and Dior Homme vest part of my regular wardrobe,I feel like myself. BecauseI’m not fretting about whatI’m wearing,I’m able to be presentIn the moment. That’s made me notice when other queer folks hold my gaze a little longerIn the coffee shop or flash a quick smile on the sidewalk. And the GAY NOW tote?Atotal hit. WhenI wearIt,I feel like a walking advertisement for L.L. Bean. Wearing these symbols of communityIs about much more than getting a compliment. Simply wearing a coded piece saves me the anxiety of having to verbally come outIn a new space.
