Do the coconut tree jokes seem a little dated at this point? Yes. But honestly, Maya Rudolph could have recited a '90s-era SNL joke like "Schweddy Balls" and I'd still be happy to see her. Plus, Jim Gaffigan as Harris' sidekick Tim Walz is weird and perfect, as is Bowen Yang as JD Vance; Andy Samberg's Doug Emhoff isn't quite as accurate, but then again, anything Andy Samberg does is funny to me, so I can forgive that. I've gone on record as liking Jean Smart, but even if I weren't obsessed with the Hacks star, I'd still enjoy her half-spoken, half-sung poem to New York (and her large lesbian fan base).

When I try to explain padel to people here in the States, a lot of them think I'm talking about pickleball. Do people ever think that's your game, or is this our problem? Not really - pickleball
is virtually non-existent in Europe, but padel is global, and it's just growing very fast, even faster than pickleball is growing in the States. So I think this ignorance should be corrected quickly! I woke up on Sunday morning to watch a streamed (or, in the old days, TiVoed) episode of Saturday Night Live last night since I was in high school. It's a ritual I've come to depend on, even if the episode in question is a little less laugh-out-loud than one might expect. However, last night's 50th anniversary episode of the late-night show delivered on almost every front; Sure, there are occasional bland moments please God, let the “summer of kids” jokes roll off the tongue now that fall has officially arrived but with the 2024 presidential election just weeks away, it’s nice to see familiar faces from the SNL cast and actually be able to laugh a little about America’s current political woes.

I feel like I've been waiting my whole life to hear Jean Smart say "We have a great show for you tonight, Jelly Roll is here!", and I'd love to know who was responsible for informing Smart who Jelly Roll was. Seriously, though, the real-life friendship between Smart and her Hacks co-star Einbinder is truly touching, and I'm glad Einbinder was able to be a part of her friend's big night. I don't think anything could top Bowen Yang as the iceberg that sank the Titanic, but seeing the comedian dressed up as everyone's favorite Thai pygmy hippo was exactly what I needed.
Hose!!!!!!!!! (Also, it was a very busy night for Yang, who appeared in about a dozen skits in a row; that's what I wanted to see!)
