Every celebrity has their season: Mariah Carey is the “Queen of Christmas” (though that’s a bit debatable); Nicole Kidman is clearly the “true spring,” according to color theory; and Megan Thee Stallion permanently owns the hot girl summer. While one could certainly argue that fall belongs to Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham, I’ve personally spent enough picturesque fall afternoons re-watching Gilmore Girls to last me the rest of my life. So I nominate Meg Ryan queen of cozy vibes and messy layering and star of some unforgettable cold-weather sweater movies, including You’ve Got Mail and When Harry Met Sally… for the title of high priestess of fall.
It was the same make and model of car a Mercedes 380SEC. But it was a bumper sticker that read, “I love Gstaad.” She had visited the Swiss Mountain town in the eighties. In what she now admits was “probably a pretty silly move,” she bought the sticker and stuck it to the back of her Mercedes. The seller was right it was her car. She got their number and bought the car. The “I love Gstaad” car is now with girls in North Carolina. They’ll share it at school, drive it to buy themselves coffee with friends, or do whatever college kids do on their breaks. It's a concept that brings Shields peace: "I have this image of two young girls walking to my old high school car
and starting their lives. It's heartbreaking, but it's also a full and sweet circle. If you do it right, they thrive," she says.
A few years ago, a girl approached Shields at a Starbucks. Could they show her a photo? Shields agreed, thinking maybe someone had dressed up as her for Halloween, or that they used to have the same eyebrows. (She gets a lot of pictures of eyebrows.) Instead, they showed her a car with a sign on the windshield: For Sale. Formerly Owned by Brooke Shields. At first, she laughed it off like any used-car sales pitch. But as she walked to get her coffee, she found herself turning around. Could she look again?
