Dries Van Noten, also created by a design team this season after Van Noten retired, didn’t make the top 10, but it wasn’t far behind. If there’s anything to be learned from his performance, it’s that the new creative director will have plenty to work with. Fashion month may be over, but spring 2025 is still alive in our imaginations. While we’re still thinking about Alessandro Michele’s return to Valentino and the Coperni Disneyland show, we can’t talk about fashion without acknowledging the models.
What else is new? For the second season in a row, the list is dominated by female-led brands. Chloé’s Chemena Kamali got the fashion crowd’s blessing and a second collection to show her support, and Christian Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri threw a few arrows at her naysayers. Miuccia Prada, for her part, scored two entries: down a few spots for Miu Miu and up one spot for Prada, which came in second. Chanel fell six spots to eighth, but even without its creative director, the house Coco built still has a following. That could be a blessing or a curse for whoever ends up landing the coveted job.
We often think of models as canvases for outfits, but when they’re not working, they can show us their own personal style. Kendall Jenner rocked her classic Alaïa coat on the streets of Paris; Vittoria Ceretti paired her nightgown with a scarf and sunglasses; Mona Tougaard showed off her Tabi ballet flats; and Quannah Chasinghorse used a T-shirt to draw attention to a cause close to her heart. Sure, they’re leading the way on the runways this season, but there’s a reason why models don’t work. Practical yet stylish, models across New York, London, Milan, and Paris showed us how they can make jeans, trench coats, and T-shirts their own. Some people choose to keep their look classic and simple (after all, they change clothes all day long) while others personalize their timeless outfits with their accessories.
