As in any Christopher Guest film, much of the dialogue and plot of the faux-documentary For Your Consideration is improvised by the cast. When the mediocre film is made, no one thinks much of it but when word gets out that it's going to win an Oscar, things take a turn for the worse, and the cast and crew find themselves caught up in a whole lot of antics. As for how all this relates to Thanksgiving: The film-within-a-film was titled Home for Purim before it was changed to Home for Thanksgiving.

Though Brokeback Mountain takes place mostly out in the country, one of the film's most pivotal scenes is filmed on Thanksgiving, when Ennis's ex-wife finally confronts him about his relationship with Jack. Set during the Thanksgiving dinner that April (Katie Holmes) prepares

for her estranged family after her mother is diagnosed with cancer, Pieces of April ticks all the boxes for great Thanksgiving viewing especially since Patricia Clarkson was nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of her ailing mother. There's a plot for everyone here, too: April's frantic preparations and subsequent brush with disaster when her oven breaks; boyfriend Bobby's attempts to make a good impression on her parents; and the family's journey to Manhattan as they try to reconcile their feelings about the past.

Thanksgiving doesn't have to be all about turkey and mashed potatoes, as What's Cooking? proves by showcasing the different celebrations of Vietnamese, Jewish, Latino, and AfricanAmerican families. While you never really needed a reason to watch the classic 1998 romantic comedy, this time you'll have a clear reason to get all your friends to watch with you: The classic scene between Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan where Joe Fox comes to the rescue at a Zabar's cashonly counter actually took place on Thanksgiving. Come for the holiday theme in You've Got Mail, stay for the story of two business rivals who accidentally fall in love through the early version of the web.
