Inspiring actions and How to manage a multi-stakeholder crisis response for engagement to 12.000 employees? achieve the SDGs

The SDGs will only be achieved if everyone, including the world’s most marginalised people, takes action and engages with SDG planning, implementation and review process. The keynote will focus on how the United Nations SDG Action Campaign inspires people through innovative and creative digital tools and communication mechanisms, through direct engagement with partners and individuals.

There is a bomb threat, you cannot enter in your company! A fire at one of your suppliers delays or cancels the delivery of an important raw material or a product! Your car park is completely flooded! Have you ever imagined that? When a sudden event takes us by surprise, threatens our employees, our environment, our assets or our reputation, we may consider that we are in a crisis. During a crisis, events rush. Time is playing against us. We need to react FAST.

Prepared to react? How to increase resilience

How to react in the face of cyber security threats

We live in a 24/7 news cycle; with academia, authorities, pressure groups and individual voices competing for space. Responses to criticism are expected immediately – irrespectively on when and where they occur. Taking active steps to increase awareness of potential issues, be better prepared to quickly address and react towards critical situations via a well-orchestrated process becomes pivotal in today’s world. Join the session to get a snapshot of how this is being addressed at Reckitt Benckiser (RB).

From spear-phishing and identity theft to total blackouts and leakage of national security secrets - Cyber threats are varied, and malicious actors don’t discriminate critical infrastructure from individuals when looking for gain. When attackers mark you as their target, you’d better be ready! What are the best practices for cyber defence and protection? How well do organisations protect their critical assets? And, how will you react in the face of cyber security incidents?

Managing brand reputation in a hostile world

ALARM REACTION

In an increasingly polarised world, not all companies, and not all countries are created equal. What can you do when you face opposition, hostility and suspicion from powerful forces in the global economy? Learn how Huawei has been addressing this challenge and growing its business in the face of political, economic and technological challenges.

In a world of hyper-connectivity, global uncertainty and erosion of trust in established organisations, how does your company avoid damage to brand reputation or value from fake news and misinformation? This interactive workshop by Crisp explores practical tips and responses you can use to combat this escalating area of social harmful content.

Effective stake holder engagement in a digital era

Finding the right strategic commu nications approach in times of crisis

In a crisis, when every minute counts and when all you have and all you are is at stake, understanding your stakeholders, their positions and their actions may be your only chance to survive and recover. Join CS&A International’s workshop and experience the power of FastTrack Stakeholder Mapping.

No two crises are the same, yet any crisis requires a rapid assessment and analysis during an intense, evolving situation. Adopting the right communications strategy is critical at this time. This session by Conduit-Associates explores the challenges of finding the right communications approach, examines two case studies and ends with an interactive exercise.

Carlo Parrado Curros Head of Group Crisis Management Shell International

Making the most of your crisis management organisation: Prepare – Predict – Prevent

Crisis Communication needs not only to rely on the communications department. To become truly sustainable the whole company needs to be prepared to deal with whatever crisis may arise. Have an insight into how you can build a resilient and complete crisis management organisation by focusing on the three fundamental P’s: Preparation, Prediction and Prevention.

Best Case Thomas Schultz-Jagow Senior Director Public Engagement & Growth Amnesty International

Human rights in crisis, crisis in human rights?

Amnesty International has weathered many storms in its almost 60 year history, often caused by its campaigns against oppressive regimes, ruthless dictators or populist politicians. At times, the calls for accountability, justice and equality turn inwards, when passionate employees and volunteers advocate for their rights within the global organisation. This session will discuss some recent examples of internal and external crisis management, with particular emphasis on the communications aspects therein.

The Simulation Game

1

Analysis

4

Group feedback

09.30–11.15 A crisis just occurred. Now it’s important to keep calm. What are the facts? What do we know? What can’t we know yet? You will learn to collect, rate and to prioritise the available information.

15.30–16.00 There will be an evaluation in the end. Which crisis management group had the situation under control? Lean back – our crisis experts present you the results. Identify your own weaknesses and learn from the experiences of the day.

2

3

Strategy development

12.00–13.30 You now know what is at stake. How do you react? Head-in-sand tactic? Just keep silent? Or actively turning to the public? You will get to know a set of tools that will help you shape your strategy and choose the most favorable option out of a multiplicity.

Implementation

14.00–15.20 The press is waiting for your statement. The wording is completed. It looks really simple on paper. But are you also prepared for critical questions? Statements in front of the camera or perhaps rather a press release? Empathic tone but hard in business? You will learn to be prepared for critical questions and much more.

Crises may arise suddenly, unexpectedly and nobody will be able to protect you from it. But being able to take the right decisions under time and media constraints can be practiced. Enhance your crisis communication skills as a participant of the full-day strategic simulation game.

The Method

Teamwork

Integrated Workshops

Enter the Competition

In crisis teams of up to eight people, you will organise your crisis staff structure. Cooperation is the key to success.

The simulation game is regularly interrupted by workshop sessions. Experts in this practice will provide you with the necessary tools to master the crisis.

We will take stock in the end: which group has mastered the crisis the best? Learn from their strengths and weaknesses and take your crisis communication skills to the next level.
