Toilets

Understand your plumber. Here is a guide to terms commonly used when talking about toilet suites. It will help you determine the sort of toilet suite best suited to your situation.

Box Rim Pan

The upper rim of the pan has holes to direct the water flow onto the side of the pan during the flushing operation, for efficient flushing and cleansing of the pan.

Care Toilet

A care toilet has a longer and higher pan to facilitate easier wheelchair access. Care suites should comply with releveant care standards. Some models also include care (raised height) flush buttons and seats without a lid.

Ceramic Cistern

Ceramic cisterns made from this high density china are quieter filling. A china cistern also matches the pan in colour and finish, resulting in a more integrated suite. Ceramic has greater lasting qualities and is more aesthetically appealing.

Close Coupled Suite

The cistern sits directly onto the pan creating a toilet suite that is an integrated unit and therefore more attractive and easier to clean than a Link Suite. Unlike a Wall Faced suite the pan does not go back to be flush with the wall, but will have a gap at the rear.

Comfort Height Pan

A slightly taller pan that is further above the floor level, thus ensuring an easier mount and dismount.

Directed Flush

The highly efficient Direct Flush suite delivers water to the pan and discharges it through specially positioned flush outlets that deliver the water around the pan to ensure an even flow and coverage.

Link Suite

A link suite cistern is separate from the pan. The cistern will be secured to the wall and there will be a gap between it and the pan. The two are joined by way of the flush pipe. A plastic Link piece (or cover piece) bridges the gap between the cistern and pan and covers the flush pipe from view ensuring a more visually appealing and streamlined style. Heirloom do not include Link Suites in their range.

Open Rim Pan

The traditional design of the upper rim of the toilet pan with the flush area being fully open to the pan for an efficient flush action.

Plastic Cistern

Moulded from polypropylene, plastic cisterns are a reliable value for money option. Heirloom do not include plastic cisterns in their range.

Rimless Activflush

The flush utilises a rimless pan to discharge the water in a sweeping cascading action around the pan.

S and P Pans

A S pan discharges through the floor. A P pan discharges through the wall. Connect to discharge wastes located anywhere within a specified range of distances from the wall.

Semi Wall Faced Suite

With this suite most of the pan fits back to the wall with a cut-away portion allowing greater access for installation. Especially good for renovations where fitting to old wastes may be an issue, or for commercial installation where access for future servicing is important.

Set Out (S Pans)

Set Out refers to the distance from the wall to the centre of the discharge waste. The waste pipe of the toilet must be connected to the discharge waste using a plastic/ rubber connector. To enable the connection to be made the waste pipe on the toilet must align with the location of the discharge waste in the floor.

Short Projection Pan

A slightly shorter pan that does not extend as far from the wall, thus giving more free space in the bathroom.

Shrouded Pan

A smoother and more streamlined pan that encloses most of the pan connections resulting in a more pleasing and stylish pan that is both visually appealing and easier to clean.

Stainless Steel Hinges

Non rusting hinges stainless steel hinges that hold the seat in place, provide both a visually appealing feature and easier cleaning.

Turboflow Flush

The flush action resembles a tornado like swirl for an efficient flush action and a pan shape that has a less pronounced ledge.

Variable Set Out (S Pans)

Set Out refers to the distance from the wall to the centre of the discharge waste. The waste pipe of the toilet must be connected to the discharge waste using a plastic/ rubber connector. To enable the connection to be made the waste pipe on the toilet must align with the location of the discharge waste in the floor. Some S Pan toilets are supplied with a VARIABLE OFFSET CONNECTOR which offers greater installation flexibility. A VARIABLE OFFSET CONNECTOR is able to connect to discharge wastes located anywhere within a specified range of distances from the wall.

Wall Faced Suite

With this suite the pan fits back to the wall giving a more streamlined design and the benefit of concealing most of the plumbing connections.

Bathroomware Warranty

This warranty statement covers the Heirloom ceramic products only. (Accessories and coordinate products are covered by separate warranties.)

Heirloom’s warranty on ceramic products is 10 years from the date of purchase on ceramic components. The warranty covers defective materials or workmanship. (eg. glazing defects, pitting or other imperfections).

Heirloom’s warranty on other components of ceramic products is 12 months from date of purchase. This warranty covers valves, seats, hinges and plugs and wastes. The warranty does not cover matters arising from incorrect installation, settings, or operation of the product.

The following are NOT covered by warranty:

• Dirt or grit in the cistern or water supply that causes blocking or running on of water etc.

• Incorrect setting of valves

• Incorrect set out or incorrect installation by installer

• Adjustment of valve settings without the consent from the manufacturer

• Product damage occurring during or after installation

• Installation costs, removal and reinstallation costs associated with a warranty claim are not covered by warranty. All product should be carefully inspected prior to installation.

• Chemical or cleaning additives placed into cisterns will void warranty

• Plumbing reticulation or water flow rate issues

• No proof of purchase or installation by other than a registered and qualified plumber may void warranty

A call out charge will apply for inspection of product where Heirloom determines that the matters are not covered by warranty.

WELS Rating

WELS rating provides a star rating for products based on its water efficiency. The higher the star rating, the better the water savings. Heirloom’s toilet suites have a 4 star rating.

All Heirloom toilets have been designed with a dual flush option to minimize the amount of water used in each flush.

Eco-friendly EVO

All Heirloom toilets have been designed with the EVO dual flush option to minimize the amount of water used in each flush. With EVO, they use only 4.5 litres for a full flush and 3 litres for a “half-flush” without compromising performance. So they are also friendly to the environment.

INSTALLATION TIPS

Preparation and planning

Accessories should be attached to a structure that will support the product and the demands of daily use. Normally this requires the accessory to be secured to a wooden stud or nog for plasterboard walls or directly into the wall material for concrete or brick walls.

When building new or renovating, it is a good idea to preplan the location of accessory products so support structures can be put in place.

Get fixing systems advice from your local installation professional or hardware / building supply store especially where there is not a solid structure for affixing the product.

– Stability and care accessories are only as good as the strength of the structure holding the product and the fixing system used.

Locate accessories where they will be convenient to access. Consider your “work flow” and where you will be located when wanting to access the accessory so it is placed conveniently. The height from the floor should be determined by what will be convenient in the situation.

– Take into account doors in the room and on showers and vanities to ensure a clear path that is not obstructed by accessories.

– Identify wet areas that will result from shower sprays and general bathroom usage and consider whether this could adversely affect the product.

Plan your tiling pattern so that accessories are not going to be placed on a tile in technically difficult location to drill or cut. E.g. close to tile edges etc.

Plan your tiling pattern so that there is a balanced visual appearance to the placement of accessories on the tiling pattern.

Installation

Familiarise yourself with the accessories mounting system. Identify where fixing holes are located. Identify whether the fixing will provide any tolerance for holes that are not quite in the exact location (often accommodated by oval holes in accessory fixing brackets rather than round holes) or whether there is minimal tolerance that will require more exact drilling of holes.

Before commencing installation, visualise the accessory location by having someone hold it up where it is going to be installed and make sure it looks right and is in the most useful position.

Templates included with the product are helpful but always check the product before installing as there will usually be manufacturing tolerances.

Make sure the accessory is level when marking fixing points and double check the marked fixing points with a builders level.

When drilling decorative surfaces such as tiles, slate, stone etc. always consult the supplier of the material for advice as to the equipment needed to drill or cut holes.

Some towel rails etc. can be cut to a shorter length usually using a hacksaw with a new blade. Always wrap the rail in cello tape or masking tape to minimise damage to the end of the rail.

Always use the correct tools to install accessories –there is often a variety of screw types (slotted, Philips, Recessed, Torx etc.). Using the incorrect tool for installation can often damage the screw and compromise installation.

Care

Read product instructions regarding product care. Generally avoid harsh or abrasive cleaning materials.

Warm soapy water is usually all that is needed and the accessory can then be dried off with a paper towel. Avoid the buildup of dust or water residues on accessories as over time this can degrade surface finishes.
