Steuben Society of America celebrates Centennial at the West Point Club

The Steuben Society of America celebrate their 100-year anniversary on May 19 th at the prestigious West Point Club in upstate New York. Official guests of honor included Boris Ruge, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Germay, and Major Gen. Donald E. Jackson, Jr., Army Pentagon, both based in Washington, D.C.
Several national chapters sent delegations from as far as Texas to attend the event. After the speeches honoring General von Steuben and his accomplishments in the War of Independence and his importance for the structure of the U.S. Army until today, dinner guests danced the afternoon away to the Music of Gregory and the Mountain Brauhaus Band.
The Steuben Society of America, founded in 1919, is an educational, fraternal, and patriotic organization of American citizens of German background. The stated purpose of the Society is “to educate the public about matters of interest to American citizens of German descent and their families, to encourage participation in civic affairs, and to perpetuate and enhance the understanding of contributions made by such citizens to the development of the United States of America.”
The German-American Steuben Parade Committee of Greater NY Announces
Miss Germany-America 2019 and her court
for the 62nd Annual German-American Steuben Parade
On May 19th, 2019, the German-American Steuben Parade Committee of Greater NY selected Sophia Huber, a 23-year-old resident of Great Neck, NY, as Miss German-America 2019. Miss Huber graduated from Adelphi University with a BBA in Accounting in 2017 and an MBA in 2018. On September 21st, 2019, she will ride the German-American Steuben Parade’s “Queen’s Float” on Fifth Avenue along with Princesses Melissa Gecsedi of Glen Cove, NY and Emily Beiser of New York, NY. All three talented and accomplished young ladies are extraordinary representatives of the rich German-American heritage and culture of the Metro NY area.




The crowning took place during MaiFest held at The Liederkranz on 87th Street in Manhattan where the panel of judges and each audience member had an opportunity to cast a vote determining the Queen and her Princesses! Miss German-America 2019 receives a $5,000 scholarship, her princesses each receive a $2,500 scholarship.
