Introduction

I am doing a polygon project on 5 shapes, the Square, Parallelogram, Trapezoid, acute Triangle, and an Obtuse Triangle. I will give information about these shapes and what makes them polygons. Polygons are all around us. In fact you’re looking at one now, the rectangle. A polygon is a closed shape that has sides and angles.

Square

•A square has 2 pairs of parallel sides •It has 4 equal angles and 4 equal sides •The 4 angles add up to 360* •All angles are 90* which makes it a square.

•Squares are used by engineers to map blue prints for a house or building.

Trapezoid

•The trapezoid is a quadrilateral.

•Has one pair of parallel sides.

•The parallel sides are called bases.

•The four angles add up to 360* •The trapezoid only has equal sides.

A trapezoid is a quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides.

Parallelogram

•A parallelogram is a quadrilateral.

•There are two pairs of parallel sides.

•The four angles add up to 360*.

•There are two pairs of equal sides

A parallelogram is a quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides.

Acute Triangle

•All sides same length.

•The 3 angles add up to 180*.

•The 3 angles are the same.

•The angles are always less than 90*.

•A triangle that has one 90* angle is no longer an acute triangle.

Obtuse Triangle

•An obtuse triangle has to have one angle more than 90* to be an obtuse triangle.

•Two of the angles are less than 90*(acute).

•The angles always add up to 180*.

•The obtuse angle can also be called dull angles.

A triangle that has an angle greater than 90*.
