Heathfield School Results

202122

Welcome

Every child is unique. There is no such thing as a stereotypical ‘Heathfield pupil’, and that is one of our greatest strengths. As you will see, our successes this year have come in many areas, and celebrating our pupils’ achievements across that breadth is the foundation for the confidence and attitudes that help them to achieve far beyond their initial expectations.

This publication provides a summary of the outstanding efforts of our pupils across school life. Whether inside the classroom or in co-curricular activities and competitions, Heathfield pupils are encouraged to approach everything with a can-do attitude, and subsequently each achieves widely in their own way.

Academically, pupils are supported and encouraged to work towards our impressive statistics of top grades. However, here at Heathfield we are aware that each pupil works differently, and we are here to support each pupil as an individual. On average, pupils achieved between 1.5 and 2 grades higher than their standardised predictions in every GCSE taken, and similarly at A level, which is outstanding. To see their achievements in music, drama, dance, musical theatre, sport and the many co-curricular activities, demonstrates the rounded experience that they enjoy and the positive attitudes that they have developed. What is far harder to capture is the culture

and atmosphere of Heathfield. The everyday lived experience, the friendships and the fun. I hope this gives you a flavour of their achievements and a glimpse into why we are so proud of each of them.

Education is transformational, and Heathfield students ‘grow into young people who make a difference to the world, and live their lives boldly’*. This is a result of our culture; the importance and value placed on each individual, the commitment of all the pupils, staff and parents, and the unwavering desire to enable each and every pupil to excel and go on to make the world a better place.

With best wishes

Royal Society Biology Challenge

The Biology Challenge is open to students around the world. The Biology Challenge stimulates students’ curiosity for the natural world and encourages them to take an interest in Biology outside of school.

The competition consists of two, twenty-five-minute multiple choice papers taken online under supervised exam conditions by Form IV. This year 27,000 students competed globally, and we had an amazing 18 awards. Including the school’s first ever Gold in the competition.

Intermediate Biology Olympiad

................................................................................................

The Intermediate Biology Olympiad is open to students in the first year of post-16 education anywhere in the world.

The competition consists of a one-hour multiple choice paper taken online. Questions are set on topics students are likely to have covered at GCSE and in their first year of A level. Some additional ideas will be introduced requiring their problem-solving skills and understanding of core principals.

Almost 9000 students from 450 schools around the world competed this year, and two of our Lower Sixth Biologists achieved awards.
