It was lovely to see so many of you last Saturday supporting your daughters in their efforts at St Nicholas’ Stalls. A huge heartfelt thank you to all those who attended, helped and contributed to it.

This event opens the pathway to Christmas and as always is fabulous for raising funds for designated charities and those less fortunate. 100% of the money raised on the day goes to the charities your daughters have chosen to help.

It has been a really busy couple of weeks. Over 100 potential future pupils sat our assessments and as a result, we had to add an extra day to accommodate so many. We look forward to welcoming many of them back to Heathfield next September.

As part of our engagement in UK Parliament Week, we held a Question Time session. We welcomed local politicians into our audience and a panel of Heathfield girls who excelled in their knowledge and maturity answered topical questions. The politicians and audience left extremely impressed with our panel and several of you ‘tuned in’ to our live-stream online with your comments and views.

Lastly, I look forward to seeing you at our Christmas drinks in London on 10 December at the Sladmore Contemporary Gallery, Bruton Place, W1J 6NW and at our Carol service on the last day of term.

Heathfield Question Time On Wednesday 14 November, during UK Parliament Week and in celebration of the centenary of limited suffrage for women, the Careers & Outreach department presented the first ever Heathfield Question Time.

BBC Question Time usually invites media professional and politicians to answer audience questions, but our panel was made up of our own students: Jasmine in UVI; Boots, Masha and Poppy in LVI; and Romilly in Form III. Mrs Anita Diaz, Head of PSHE, was in the Chair, playing the part of David Dimbleby. Girls from Forms I to UVI attended and girls submitted questions that focused on four key areas: the war in Yemen; gender self-identification; women in politics; and Brexit.

To add a little gravitas to the evening, local politicians from the three main parties (Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat) were invited to attend. There was a VIP supper beforehand, attended by the local politicians, student panellists and the Heathfield Student Council.

The evening was a huge success. Our political guests were very impressed by the questions, our panel’s considered and informed responses as well as the audience’s interest. We even had kind words of encouragement sent to us from: Rt Hon Adam Afriyie MP (Windsor, Conservative); Rt Hon Rupa Huq MP (Ealing Central & Acton, Labour); Rt Hon Sir Vince Cable MP (Twickenham, Liberal Democrat); and Baroness Anne Jenkin (House of Lords, Co-Founder & Co-Chair of Women2Win).

We were pleased to welcome parents to the event, in person and those who joined us via Facebook Live.

Subscribe entitledPast Issues Translate So, what is a Food Scientist? covered what she does in detail and the many different stages of developing a new product, and the long journey a product has to make in order to be sold and make its way into our fridges.

She also talked about her previous jobs and what to do while you're at school to then successfully become a Food Scientist, and the benefits and the disadvantages of this career path. She answered many of the girls' questions in detail and the girls definitely learned a lot about this field and taken in a lot of advice from such an experienced individual.

St Nicholas’ Stalls On Saturday 24 November we held our annual charity fundraiser St Nicholas’ Stalls. Weeks of preparation by Heads of Houses and students culminated in House Stalls bursting with goodies to sell on the day.

Parents, Governors and businesses all donated amazing items for the Silent Auction. Heathfield Auction hero dads Mr Browner and Mr Flood kept the crowds bidding on the Silent Auction which raised nearly £10,000. Heathfield Parents’ Association led by Tiff Beilby hosted a very popular Champagne Stall.

Thank you to everyone who also donated Raffle and Tombola Prizes for each House stall.

The choir from Austen opened the event and then formed a creative human fruit machine on their stall. Their tombola took the shape of baubles on a Christmas Tree and the girls also raised money selling House Hoodies.

De Valois built a Santa’s Grotto and ran a raffle for a Jeroboam of Champagne. They sold tea towels emblazoned with ‘Heathfield Girls are simply gorgeous’. Their stall was also laden with Alex Eagle T-shirts and candles, vinyl records and water bottles.

Seacole ran the popular Splat the Teacher outside and reported that Fr David in the stocks raised the most money, closely followed by Mr Gale. The girls sold homemade gingerbread, crackers and wash bags with the slogan ‘See the Sky’ and operated a ping pong ball in a jar game. Somerville sold over 400 Christmas cards designed by the girls and made up by Mr Benjamin.

Sasha (Form I) designed and made jewellery to sell. A very popular attraction was a chocolate fountain and the girls also sold Advent calendars, bath bombs and candles. Kiki (Form V) hosted her own stall supporting the OSCAR Foundation and sold T-shirts and hats while running a mini Silent Auction.

There were excellent opportunities for Christmas shopping thanks to the 36 external stall holders selling their wares including clothes, handbags, jewellery, gifts, candles, books, gin and much much more. The Art Department staff also had stalls selling their magnificent pieces of work.

All monies from the day will go directly to the four House charities chosen by the girls.

Cupcake for Theresa May On the day of St Nicholas’ Stalls, we were delighted to hear that Sky News would be broadcasting live from Heathfield! They wanted to interview Gabby, the younger sister of Violet (Form I), who is currently a pupil at Upton House, Windsor. Gabby baked a cupcake and decorated it to look like the face of our Prime Minister Theresa May. After another difficult week, the Prime Minister said in a BBC radio interview that the cake had made her smile and cheered her up, after which the story was picked up by a host of national media outlets. Violet did a fantastic job of supporting her 9 year old sister during her unexpected interview. Well done to both girls.

Equestrian - Polo A cold but fun day at Westcroft Park Polo Club on Sunday 25 November, saw wins for both the Heathfield Diamonds and the Heathfield Rubies.

The Heathfield Diamonds were in their first arena match of the season and came out with all guns blazing to stay on top throughout the four chukka match against St Mary’s, Ascot. This new line up was very strong and even with team changes (to enable play for all of our top four players) the players used their strategy and team work to keep the game flowing at an impressive speed.

The exciting first chukka set the pace for the day. Well done Georgia, Kiki, Minty and Victoria.

Heathfield’s new beginners’ team Doddie, Isabel and Teresa surprised and impressed all the supporting parents and their coach Hamid. Several clear runs down the arena kept them in the lead.

A great start to the season.

Sports Report Lacrosse Thursday 15 November vs Wellington College The first lacrosse team played Wellington and beat them 12-4 with shots firing to the back of the goal whilst strong teamwork turning the ball over from defence. Everyone communicated and worked well together.

Written by Aisha (LVI) Saturday 17 November vs St Mary’s, Calne The U12a team played an exciting match against St Mary’s, Calne. We went there knowing that they were going to be a strong team, but we did not give up. In the first half, there were some brilliant passes from Heathfield and good interception. At the end of the first half, the score was 7/0. Although the opposition were winning, we came back much stronger in the second half and Marley saved some great goals. Although we lost this match, we know what we need to improve on and we will win next time. Players of the match went to Jazzy and Olivia.

The U13’s played well scoring 2 goals. However, despite their best efforts they lost 12:2. Well done for trying your best.

To warm up, we did some stretching and throwing and catching in line and star drills. Nest time we will spend more time on stretching as some players ached after the match!

U14 Although our match against St Mary’s Calne was a good win for them, beating us 13-3, we played very well using some of the techniques we learnt in our lessons including communication around the fan in defence and passing around the fan when attacking. Our mixed team of U13 and U14 players are not quite used to playing with each other yet.

However, as we practice more regularly, we will become stronger as a team. Well done to Cayetana who got player of the match.

Senior Unfortunately, our first Lacrosse team lost but Sophia in goal made some outstanding saves.

The team worked very hard to keep possession of the ball in attack and the defence were stopping the opposition from scoring by working together to get hold of the ball. The team were constantly running up and down the pitch and the spirit and effort stayed high.

Netball U12A & B vs Luckley House On Tuesday 13 November the U12 A and B teams played Netball matches against Luckley House. The A team celebrated a 14–1 win and the player of the match was Jazzy who played brilliantly as GA and GD. The B team won as well with a score of 9–1 and players of the match were Eliza and Mia who played amazingly in attack. Well done everyone for a great evening of netball!
