Despite 2020 being such an unusual year, we have enjoyed many wonderful moments at Heathfield including the superb performance of Sweet Charity just before lockdown in March, being shortlisted for Best Boarding School of the Year award by TES, and Form III who were still able to enjoy their trip to Barcelona.

I pass the baton to Ms Wilson with confidence and in the knowledge that she will continue to steward Heathfield's wonderful spirit and #team, ensuring the School continues to put happiness and confidence at the heart of everything it does. I love this School to my core, and I am so proud of every single pupil and member of staff who have passed through on their different journeys. Thank you all so much for your support, for your trust and for your belief in our School.

Thank you so much to you all for allowing me to be part of your journey; I wish you, as ever, my very best wishes for a restful and peaceful holiday.

such as fast shutter speeds and long exposure. Girls had lots of creative fun with ultraviolet lights and ink in water. The photography department are so proud of what all the girls have created this year and girls can continue their study of photography at Heathfield at GCSE and A Level.

Christmas Lunchtime Concert On 16th December, staff and parents were treated to a wonderful virtual lunchtime concert. Allegra (Form III) opened with The First NoĂŤl on the piano, followed by Chloe (Form I) playing Carol of the Bells on the violin. Bella (Form IV) sang Walking in the Air in our beautiful Chapel, then Olive (Form II) played Jingle Bells on her saxophone. Tina (UVI) played a lovely jazz version of Silent Night on piano and was then joined by Miss Kong to play a modern take on Angels from the Realms of Glory. The concert was rounded off by the School Band who played Frosty, the Snowman with a touch of Let it Snow in the middle.

Carol Service Nothing can stand in the way of Heathfield tradition. This year, the Carol Service, an integral part of that tradition, was bound to be different. But it lacked none of the style, enthusiasm and involvement of the whole Heathfield community.

The Top 12 singers were in great form with their rendition of Gaudete - the curtain raiser to the afternoon’s service. Sasha (Form III) and Lexi (LVI) sang charming solos and the combined Choir, the Form I Ensemble and the Orchestra made it a Carol Service to /

Celebration Assembly On the last day of Michaelmas Term we hosted a virtual Celebration Assembly to highlight the achievements and dedication of girls from Form I to Upper Sixth.

Bearing Badges were awarded to the girls who ‘showed a consistently high standard of personal pride, evidenced by good manners, exemplary appearance and a positive, kind attitude’ and Bows ‘for making a positive contribution to all aspects of school life and enhancing the well-being of all’.

Academic Highflyers were awarded to two students for their outstanding pieces of work.

Congratulations to Claudia (LVI) for Biology, and Lexie (LVI) for Drama.

In Sport, full colours were awarded for high ability, effort, attitude and commitment and half colours awarded for good ability, effort, attitude and commitment in Lacrosse, Netball and Equestrian. Progress, effort and commitments awards were given to girls for Lacrosse, Netball and Swimming. Sports Team of the Term was awarded to Form III Lacrosse.

Music badges and awards were given to girls in Choir and Orchestra and for high examination grades. LAMDA certificates were awarded for recent exam success.

Finally, the Head’s Achievement Certificate was awarded to Minty, Upper Sixth, and the Mary Grant Cup to Effie, Form IV. The House Shield for Michaelmas Term went to Austen. Congratulations Austen!

Warm and moving tributes were paid to Mrs Gardiner Legge, our outgoing Headmistress, with videos created by the girls and the Heathfield Parents Association.

Heathfield Book Club Past Issues Translate The English Department and the Library Heathfield Book Club is open to all staff and

students from Form IV and above.

Each month, we will be reading a book voted by you out of a list curated by our English Prefect Arielle in Lower Sixth. Once the reading is completed, we will be holding meetings via Zoom or in the Library.

Our current book is The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller which needs to be read before Monday 18th January, in time for our meeting.

Heathfield 11+, 13+ Entrance for September 2021 During November we held assessments and interviews for girls hoping to join us in September 2021. Offers of places have now been made to applicants and under GSA (Girls’ School Association) guidelines, applicants have until 1 March 2021 to confirm their places.

However, just a week after sending the offers, we are delighted to have already received over 30 acceptances! Whilst the majority of these are from Form I, we will also be welcoming new pupils into Forms II and III. Covid-19 restrictions have prevented many of our applicants for 2021 from visiting Heathfield so a bespoke event has been organised for them during the first optional weekend in January. We are excited about welcoming the girls and their families to Heathfield – some of them for the first time!

January will also see interviews for several applicants hoping to join us for the Sixth Form.

Talk Education’s ‘brightest stars’ Talk Education officially launched their website last month and you can see Heathfield’s entry here: Heathfield School. The Talk Education website and social media channels aim to provide parents with honest, down-to-earth advice about schools.

Talk Education were keen to get budding writers and photographers involved and launched a competition to find the brightest stars. As one of their Top 200 schools, Heathfield was invited to take part.

Writers: 200 words on any school-related topic of your choice: the more original, the better.

Photographers: 10 images (on any subject) to show off your photography skills.

Well done to all the entrants – Sabie, Santa, Teale and Thea and congratulations to Lucy (Form V) who is a winner in both categories. Well done Lucy!

International Equestrian Federation - Children on Horses Lottie, Form III, competed in the FEI Children on Horses U14 team dressage test at Keysoe in Bedfordshire on Saturday 5 December, on her horse Fred. This was her first dressage competition on Fred, and we are delighted to hear that she came Second, a fantastic achievement, well done! For the next four years, she will be riding in the FEI Junior section with her sights set high on the U25 international competitions.

Sport Congratulations to all the girls who have been awarded Sports Colours and Cups this term for Lacrosse, Netball, Swimming and Equestrian. Every term, girls are rewarded not just for their ability, but also for their commitment and effort in Sport. A huge well done to all students who participated in the inter-House competitions, challenges and inter-School virtual events this term. /

sessions of Hockey and Water Polo. Our co-curricular programme has grown with students requests as we have introduced Form I Multi-Sports Club, extra lunchtime Netball skills sessions and a lunchtime Hockey Club.

In the last few weeks, we have moved to virtual sport and in true Heathfield spirit we have dug deep and kept going strong. Girls have been taking part in daily Can you beat the Teacher? fitness challenges and dance sessions. It has been great to see everyone participating, so a huge well done to all of you!

The New Year will hopefully bring us more opportunities for competitive sport, and we will be offering a Covid safe alternative Saturday Sport programme which will include a whole School Colour Run event as well as more inter-House competitions such as House Rugby, House Badminton, and new this year House Triathlon.

I am excited for what 2021 has in store for Heathfield Sport; introducing Basketball, Hockey, Personal Survival and fun Fitness sessions into our curriculum at the beginning of Lent Term and then moving onto Rounders, Cricket, Athletics and Tennis to prepare for the Summer Term. Our Upper Sixth Academic PE students have organised a House Benchball tournament for 2021 as part of their course. Heathfield students will be participating in virtual Swimming Galas and more!
