Carnival Club
If you like being creative, making things and working in a team this is for you! We design and make sculptures from withy willow and paper; from small scale individual pieces to big group makes. We take these to different carnivals and festivals and participate in parades like the Brighton Festival Children's Parade and Heffle Cuckoo Fair.
Who is the club aimed at?
All year groups, students who enjoy art and making things.
What will I do in the club?
Design and make withy sculptures and lanterns to take to parades like Brighton Children's Parade or Mayfield Bonfire Night Procession

Coding Club
This club is a chance for Year 9 and 10 students to write their own programs and develop their coding skills.
Who is the club aimed at?
Year 9 and 10 students doing GCSE Computer Science.
What will I do in the club?
Additional information
Students will have the opportunity to use the school computers to write their own code.
You will be using Python and Pygame.

Lego Robotics Club
Students will have the chance to build and program robots and participate in the Robotics Challenge, a fun, team-based competition.
This is a great opportunity for students to develop their problem solving and engineering skills.
Who is the club aimed at?
Years 7 to 9. What will I do in the club? Build and program robots using Lego.

Heathfield TV
Heathfield TV is the College based TV station. It was established in 2017 and produces short film content which is broadcast via its own YouTube channel. The TV station is run and managed by Sixth Form students and involves members across the College community.
Who is the club aimed at?
Anyone interested in being part of producing material for a TV station.
What will I do in the club?
Film, produce, edit, present. There are opportunities for all to be involved in the different aspects that go into creating information and engaging TV shows.

The TV station is run and managed by Sixth Form students and is a great way to highlight key events and ideas. If you would like to be involved from a technical point of view or have creative ideas for content, then we would like your input.

Radio Heathfield
Radio Heathfield is the College based radio station. We broadcast across the college at break times and lunch times every day.
Who is the club aimed at?
Anyone interested in being part of producing material for a Radio station.
What will I do in the club?
Additional information
Produce content for your radio broadcast including scripts, music playlists and jingles.
Radio Heathfield is open to all year groups. You don’t need to have any experience: older students will be on hand to help you with anything you need to learn.

Yoga Club
Yoga helps to calm the mind and body through mindful breathing and a series of fluid movements. After attending this club you should feel more relaxed, more flexible and stronger in your mind and body and more able to live in the present moment.
Who is the club aimed at?
Year 10 to 13 students, no previous experience necessary.
What will I do in the club?
Additional information
Meditation, yoga movement/positions with breath.
Eat your lunch at break and drink water before and after. Wear loose comfortable clothes that you can move in easily.

Junior Drama Club
In the Year 7 Drama club you will have a lot of creative and imaginative fun through Drama games, improvisation and script work. You will develop your ability to work with others, your knowledge of drama techniques and your confidence will inevitably grow as you will have regular opportunities to perform your work to an audience.

Design Tech Club
Design Technology is all about Problem Solving, learning from mistakes, resilience to learn new things and team work.
We encourage you to see the bigger picture and link to real life/industry.
Who is the club aimed at? Year 7 students (max 24 students).
What will I do in the club?
Additional information
You will be using hand tools and machinery to create your own Inset Bug House. You will laser cut your own image and use this on the front.
All tools and material will be provided.

The Duke of Edinburgh awards: A life-changing experience. A fun time with friends. An opportunity to discover new interests and talents. A tool to develop essential skills for life and work. A recognised mark of achievement; respected by employers. There are four sections to complete at Bronze and Silver level and five at Gold. They involve helping the community/environment, becoming fitter, developing new skills, planning, training for and completing an expedition and, for Gold only, working with a team on a residential activity.
Who is the club aimed at?
Students in Year 9, 10 and 12 with a love of the outdoors and adventure.
What will I do in the club?
Develop expedition skills including map reading, first aid, route planning, camp craft and team skill. Be supported with the independent activities and evidence platform.
Additional information
The award is launched annually in the autumn term.

Book Club
Book Club offers Sixth Form students a chance to come together and talk about brilliant books. You don’t have to be an English student to love reading! We choose a Book Club reader each term and discuss it as we go along. We choose the books together and try to read a wide variety of fiction. So far our titles have included: The Overstory, Before the Coffee Gets Cold, Open Water and On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous.

Year 12 and 13 students – studying any subject at all.
What will I do in the club?

Discuss the book we are reading – and plan our next book for discussion.
If you’re on the Bursary, you will be able to get help with buying the books.

Come and read famous classic novels you have heard about but never read! Perhaps you would like to read Dracula, Frankenstein, Jane Eyre, War of the Worlds, Nineteen Eighty-Four, Treasure Island, or Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland? There are many intriguing, entertaining and challenging novels you can choose to read at this weekly book club.

Any student who loves to read or wants to read more (years 7-11).

Discussion, independent reading, sharing recommendations.

The Heathfield Vine is our brilliant online newspaper. Five times a year we publish a diverse range of articles by students across the school, showcasing our best writing and journalistic talent. The Vine has twice been highly commended at the Shine National School Media Awards and our editors have gone on to highly prestigious universities and careers in the media. Dungeons & Dragons Club
The world’s greatest role-playing game, Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) allows you to embark on a fantastical quest through storytelling.
Perhaps you’ve never heard of it before. Perhaps you’re an expert. Or maybe you’ve heard about it on Stranger Things and want to learn more. Either way, come along and have a go!

What will I do in the club? You will create your own character to play in a pre-written campaign (story). Roll the dice and see what your character will do!

Why is building Lego good for you? You can create more complex structures and while doing this your brain is also getting exercised. Lego club is a meeting for like minded Lego enthusiasts, to discuss and most importantly build.

Dr Simon Singh, author of the No. 1 bestseller Fermat’s Last Theorem and The Simpsons and Their Mathematical Secrets has created a set of weekly maths challenges. These are interesting, fun and challenging material that goes beyond school maths: mystery and history, activities and oddities, puzzles and problems.

Maths Challenge Club
The UK Mathematics Trust was founded in 1996 and our charitable aim is to advance the education of young people in mathematics.
The biggest competitions are the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Mathematical Challenges, which have over 700 000 entries each year, and are the UK's most popular school Mathematical Challenges. The highest-scoring students are also invited to take part in follow-on rounds such as the Junior, Grey, Pink and Senior Kangaroos and the Junior, Cayley, Hamilton and Maclaurin Olympiads.
Who is the club aimed at?
Any student who enjoys solving Maths challenges.
What will I do in the club?
Additional information
Practise the solving of Maths Challenge problems, in order to prepare for future competitions.

Choir
Choir allows you to join in with like minded musicians who enjoy singing a range of music. Singing has many benefits including improving your posture, lowering stress levels, boosting your confidence and broadening your communication skills.

iBand is aimed at all students who are interested in making music using technology.

What will I do in the club?
You will explore how to make music using your iPad, learn skills in DJing, music production, recording, electronic instruments as well as general musicianship.

You are free to create music in any style and get involved in different projects or just have a space to create music with others.

KS3 Band
KS3 Band is an opportunity for any musician in KS3 to be part of a band and learn some new music. It is welcome to all KS3 and will be a great opportunity to work on popular pieces of music together as a group.

What will I do in the club? You will sing/perform your instrument with other musicians within the college. You may wish to bring in your instrument.

Samba Drumming is a type of music from Brazil. You will learn to play a range of traditional instruments. This will eventually lead to you playing the drums at different parades alongside the Carnival Club.

Dance teaches us about movement, music, rhythm and beat. It is a great for physical wellbeing as well as mental wellbeing. In this club you will do a variety of dances and will hopefully lead to a performance at a theatre.

Philosophy through Film Club
Philosophy Film Club to is an opportunity to use films to explore some of life's big questions, think creatively and challenge your ideas about your own morals, ethics, the world, existence and everything.
Who is the club aimed at?
Any student with an interest in discussing the ethical, moral and philosophical issues found within films. All year groups welcome but numbers are limited!
What will I do in the club?
Whilst watching a film, students will discuss the ethical/religious/philosophical issues as they arise. Students will develop their ability to discuss along with building their awareness of what philosophy is and the complexities of ethical situations that occur within the films.
Additional information Screenings take place in Hut 2 on Monday lunchtimes. Bring your lunch.

A drop in lunchtime club that supports our LGBTU community and their allies and helps to drive the College's inclusive ethos.

This club is an after-school club aimed at students that have a passion for Engineering and Mathematics. They will be using and developing a range of skills including problem solving, critical analysis and teamwork.

You will be helping to design and build a Go-Kart. From picking its colours to ensure all the parts are correctly assembled.
The STEM club will be afterschool on Thursdays. This is likely to be a whole year project where there will also be an opportunity to take part in the CREST Awards!

Ecology Club
This club is an after-school club aimed at students that have a passion for Ecology and the world around them. They will be looking at a different species each term, learning about them and raising money for a charity linked to that species. Axolotl care is also part of this club and this has taken over from Axolotl club from last year.

What will I do in the club?
All students from Year 7 - 13.
You will be learning about a species and their ecology, raising money for and donating to a charity for that species. You will also look after the Axolotl’s and there will be seasonal crafts involved as well, including jam making and dye making.
Additional information
The Ecology club will be afterschool on Wednesday in Lab 9. This will run for the whole year with different activities taking place throughout the year. It is part of a wider drive on sustainability by the school.

This club is a safe, calm space to sit and relax, journal, doodle and switch off. There will also be opportunities to develop your selfesteem, confidence and learn a variety of ways to help support your mental health and wellbeing.
