The day the moon met the sun was a wondrous sight.

All the birds stopped chirping, and the

day turned to night.

The moon slowly moves into position.

Cover your eyes to preserve their condition.

A speck in the crowd, viewing temples among us.

Awe in the air, the feeling of dusk.

Look up at the pair, and

marvel with me.

Inhale and take in this glorious scene.

The crowd sobs and cheers as light shows again.

Our time in this mystic will soon come to end.

Art all around,

inspired at last!

Celestial bodies moving past.

Music and dancing, eclipse for the show.

Remember forever,

through life you must

Worldwide eclipse gather,

energy transcends.

We came here as strangers,

we leave as friends.

When a solar eclipse occurs, there are two types of shadows cast on the Earth by the Moon. The first is called the umbra.

It is the shadow at the very center of the moon and it is the smallest shadow cast by the moon during the eclipse. The path of the umbra is known as the path of totality.

The second shadow is called the penunbra.

This is the larger outer shadow of the eclipse. The path of the penumbra only experiences a partial eclipse.

When a lunar eclipse occurs, earth blocks the sunlight that is usually reflected by the moon. When the sunlight passes through the earth’s atmosphere, the blue light is filtered out. This is what causes the moon to appear red during a lunar eclipse.
