Your First Day Your Line Manager will meet you at the agreed time at main reception and issue your staff ID badge and lanyard, which must be worn visibly at all times on campus. Your ID card, showing your name and photo, grants access around the college and to facilities such as photocopying. If forgotten, you may request a temporary card from Reception (subject to availability) - lost cards can be replaced by IT Support. A colleague will give you a site tour, including fire exits, assembly points and staff facilities. When visiting other sites, familiarise yourself with local fire safety signs.
Accessing IT
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Your manager will submit an IT access form before you start. Once your account is created, login details will be shared with you via your Line Manager. Your first login should be completed on-site using your assigned username (typically first initial and surname, e.g. jbloggs). You’ll be prompted to set a new password (minimum eight characters, including a capital letter, number and optional special characters).
MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring two verification steps: something you know (your password) and something you have (your phone or tablet). Verification can be done via the Microsoft Authenticator app or an SMS code. You’ll only be asked for MFA when accessing Office 365 services off campus or outside the College network. You will receive instructions from our IT department on how to set up MFA.
The College uses Office 365 for secure online access to data and communication tools, including OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, Skype for Business and Office Web Apps.
Printing and Photocopying Use your ID card to print or photocopy by scanning it on the copier keypad and entering your 4-digit PIN (the first four digits of your date of birth, e.g. 17 April → 1704). If your card doesn’t work, contact IT Services for assistance.
