I remain inspired by our donors, medical partners, and board who continue to rise above unprecedented challenges and embrace new opportunities to save the lives of so many children. It is truly our honor to do this work. Through strategic planning and partnerships in the United States and internationally, 2021 was a year of exponential growth for HeartGift, and we continued to break barriers to help more children than years before. Our Board and Staff remain dedicated and committed to our mission and the children we serve. Providing help and hope to children and families facing incredible medical challenges is at the core of what we do at HeartGift. Through innovative programming, staff and board of directors, and our medical partners’ talent ed work, HeartGift provided care to nearly 600 children through 2021. It is my honor to serve as the Chairman of the Board. The bravery we see in each of the parents and the triumphant victory we all experience together is a feeling like no other. The children served by HeartGift are some of the most vulnerable in the world. They are born into poverty, where little medical care exists, and with heart conditions that no one could have prevented. Every family is devastated by the news that their child has a life-threatening heart condition, and desperate for help. Each of these children need just one surgery, but it’s not available to them. Many search and are denied by foundations around the world for one reason or another, but through 2021, nearly 600 children have found hope through HeartGift since the organization’s inception.
In 2021, HeartGift cared for more children in a single year than ever before. Through partnerships with children’s hospitals around the globe and thanks to generous donors like you, 130 children received life-saving care at no cost to their families.
After 21 years, HeartGift continues to bridge the gap in access to specialized medical care, and children worldwide benefit from your generosity. Our efforts are collaborative, multicultural, evidence-based, and help children with profound medical needs. There is a significant lack of access to appropriate medical care for the children we serve, and HeartGift addresses this disparity.
Every dollar raised counts. With every dollar raised, we are one step closer to saving another life. Our impact, YOUR impact, has grown exponentially over the years, but there are many more children that need our help. Our work will be done only when every child with a congenital heart defect has access to the care they need. The families we serve are desperate for help, relentless in their pursuit of a healthier life for their children and will stop at nothing to provide for them. Post-surgery, the children almost immediately feel better, begin to resourcestheirfocusassistanceandage-appropriately,functionnolongerneedaroundtheclock.Parentsandfamiliesareabletoonallaspectsoflife,ratherthanalloftime,energy,andbeingpouredintotheirsickchildren.Lifebecomes“normal”forthem,andonestruggleisremoved.
