Dahlia Hill Society of Midland plants 3,000 tubers annually, with more than 300 unique varieties. This amazing garden is at the corner of Main Street and Orchard roads in Midland. It has long been an established destination for learning how to grow dahlias, taking photographs, resting from nearby rail trail activities, meeting with others, and enjoying the benefits of a nature setting.
The terraced garden is maintained by a community of volunteers beginning each June.
During the blooming months of late summer through the first frost of October, the garden’s incredible tapestry of color is open to the public free of charge, seven days a week from dawn to dusk.
The garden was started in 1992 with tubers donated by Charles Breed and planted on land provided by Bill Fisher. In 1998, Dahlia Hill Society of Midland was established as a nonprofit to maintain and preserve this unique garden. Every growing season, Dahlia Hill’s tubers multiply providing additional tubers to be sold each May. This
fundraiser is a coveted event by local gardeners and many from around the state.
Two buildings adjacent to Dahlia Hill’s garden house the art of Charles Breed, who was a long time Midland resident and artist. His art is also found amongst the dahlias, which includes four large cast aluminum sculptures representing the seasons of the year.
Dahlia Hill Society’s website at dahliahill. org features the “Dahlia Finder” that provides gardeners a wealth of information about numerous varieties. The
website also contains information about growing dahlias and the benefits of nature on overall health and well-being. Dahlia Hill Society is also expanding partnerships with other agencies in Midland and beyond.
To learn more about volunteer opportunities, art experiences, activities for youth and homeschoolers, and other Dahlia Hill events, follow on Facebook and Instagram. For additional information, call 989-6310100 or email dahlia.hill. society@gmail.com

The mission of the West Midland Family Center (WMFC) is to enhance the quality of life for each generation by providing growth and achievement opportunities within a caring environment. We do this by helping each community member today reach their full potential tomorrow.
At WMFC, located at 4011 West Isabella Road (M-20), everything centers around the family. Strong families build strong communities, and WMFC’s goal is to support healthy growth by reducing stress, strengthening relationships, and creating opportunities for individuals at every stage of life.
Programs begin with the youngest community members through licensed childcare and preschool, where children build the academic,
social, and emotional foundation needed for long-term success.
As children grow, out-of-school time programs provide safe, engaging environments before and after school, during breaks, and throughout the summer, blending enrichment, connection, and recreation.
For teens, the College Opportunity Program offers mentoring, college and career readiness, and leadership development, helping students gain confidence and direction for their future. At the same time, WMFC’s impact continues into adulthood through family support services, offering guidance, resources, and access to basic needs through the Food & Clothing Depot, helping to reduce barriers and stabilize families.

WMFC’s partnership with Senior Services of Midland County provides a location for the Greendale Upper Decks, enabling seniors to gather for meals, connection, and activities that promote health and well-being, again reinforcing the importance of community at every age.
From youth sports and martial arts to pickleball, fitness classes, bowling, open swim, and family activities, WMFC provides opportunities for individuals and families to stay active, build relationships, and simply enjoy time together. These shared experiences strengthen both physical health and community connection.
Stop in for a tour, follow on Facebook for updates, visit www. wmfc.org to learn more, or call 989832-3256 for additional information.
