After wrapping up a truly stellar year for MYPros, we are thrilled to once again partner with the Midland Daily News to recognize the 2025 40 Under 40 recipients.
Midland’s community of young professionals are truly some of the best. MYPros members represent a wide range of industries from marketing, education, and entertainment to public administration, agribusiness, nancial services and so much more. These young individuals are not only engaged and active in their community, but they’re also deeply invested in its future, working every day to make Midland an even better place to live, work and play.
Sponsoring the 40 Under 40 contest is a no-brainer for the Midland Business Alliance (MBA) and MYPros: Midland Young Professionals, the premier entry level organization for young professionals in Midland.
As a key program of the MBA, MYPros plays an important role in ful lling our mission to attract and retain young talent. Through personal and professional development opportunities, community involvement and fostering social relationships, MYPros helps young professionals grow and feel more connected to Midland.
This past year marked signi cant growth for the program. MYPros welcomed more than 100 new members in 2025, bringing us to an exciting total of 322 members! Our social events saw increasing turnout, and our Annual Meeting brought together more than 100 registered guests!
In January, the MYPros Steering Committee developed the program’s rst Strategic Plan, including newly established vision and mission statements. This plan provides a clear focus for the program: attracting and retaining talented young professionals by creating networking opportunities, supporting community involvement and fostering an overall investment in the future of Midland. It also gives a vision for our future – providing personal and professional development opportunities that enrich the lives of young professionals and improve Midland’s business climate and quality of life.
The MYPros Strategic Plan also outlines new events and initiatives, including Think Tank, a professional development series that connects young professionals with experienced leaders. Whether members are seeking guidance in their career, exploring best practices, or simply curious about other industries, Think Tank provides a welcoming space to ask questions, build con dence, and grow.
MYPros also celebrated our most successful crowdfund to date—raising $26,754 for a single project, with a $35,000 matching grant from the Midland Area Community Foundation. The Community Crowdfund began in 2019 and has steadily grown in its impact and reach, now totaling over $270,000.
This year, MYPros members selected the winning project through our rst live pitch competition. They chose Downtownsend, an initiative to revitalize Townsend Street in Downtown Midland, led by Brandon Morey, owner of Iron Dame and Crêpes et Amis. The project will also bene t neighboring businesses, Bookmarks and Mr. Moustache Phone Repair. The community rallied behind the e ort, bringing the project total to $61,754 with matching funds.
The remaining pitch participants—Live Oak in Midtown and Salt Spring Ice Cream in Sanford— also received support, earning $3,000 and $2,000 respectively to advance their projects.
Programs like 40 Under 40 highlight what MYPros see every day: a passionate, driven group of young professionals who are already shaping Midland’s future. Today’s MYPros members are tomorrow’s community leaders, business owners, and changemakers—and many of them are rightfully being recognized through this year’s 40 Under 40 class.
Getting involved in MYPros is easy. For a small annual membership fee, you can participate in all of our great events, including educational luncheons, socials and volunteer opportunities, as well as join our digital networking group. There really is something for everyone.

Describe a day on the job for you. Working as a graphic designer can mean a lot of screen time, but in the non-pro t world, the work doesn’t only happen in the o ce. Some days I’m at my desk creating materials and communications for our next event, volunteer project, or campaign. Other days, I’m out making a di erence for our neighbors in need. That takes many forms, whether it be community educational sessions, volunteering with our donors, or hands-on events, like food distributions, with our partner agencies.

Describe a day on the job for you. As a Global Customer Service Manager, every day is a surprise for me. I start by diving into urgent customer issues and making sure my team has everything they need. From there, I bounce between supporting CSRs, checking orders, and teaming up with shipping, scheduling, and sales to keep the day running smoothly. I spend a lot of time solving problems, clearing paths, and making decisions that protect our organization’s customer experience. I also keep an eye on market trends, constantly work to better internal process gaps, and guide my team through the curveballs that always seem to appear in Customer Service.
No two days are the same, but that is what keeps it interesting!
What is the best thing about working in your industry? The best thing about working in the Life Sciences manufacturing industry is knowing that what we do truly makes a di erence. Being even a small part of something that protects people around the world is incredibly rewarding and reminds me why this work matters every day!
Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? One of my biggest role models is an old boss who felt more like a motivational speaker and a friend to me, rather than just a boss. He was always honest, transparent, funny, and constantly pushed me to grow. We still stay in touch years later, and he continues to inspire me.

What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? My favorite part about working in the Midland area is de nitely the people. The community is so welcoming, involved, and always ready to support one another. Whether it is the parents in the school PTOs, the mentors in Big Brother Big Sister, the volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, or the great bartenders who already know my order at my favorite local spots, there is a real sense of connection and community here. It feels like everyone contributes to making Midland a place where you want to work, live, and be part of the community!

Volunteer organizations: I’m passionate about supporting my local community through my business. I focus on giving back in practical ways like creating a welcoming space, supporting local events or businesses, and using my platform to connect people!
What is the best thing about working in your industry? The relationships. Haircuts are about more than hair, they’re about trust, conversation, and connection. I get to meet people from all walks of life and make a real impact in how they feel when they walk out the door. I especially love working with kids and helping turn haircuts into a positive experience for them. When a child feels comfortable, con dent, and even excited to come back, that’s incredibly rewarding!
Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? My grandparents have been my biggest role models. They spent their lives showing up for others with humility and sel essness, and they were always deeply engaged in their community. That example shaped how I approach both my life and my business. Professionally, I’ve also learned a great deal from leaders I’ve worked with in the past who helped me re ne my administrative skills and gave me the con dence to eventually step out on my own.

Who are some other notable young professionals in your professional network? I’m inspired by community focused professionals like Tess at Worthy Beauty, who consistently goes out of her way to serve and support others!

Communication and service are top priorities for me, so staying engaged with my clients is essential.
Throughout the day, I make time to learn and grow within my business by collaborating with fellow agents and investing in personal development through podcasts and audiobooks. I believe continuous improvement is key to long-term success.
Once I’m fully caught up and have accomplished my daily goals, I’ll usually head to the gym, which is something I genuinely enjoy, before wrapping up and spending time at home.
What is the best thing about working in your industry? The best part of working in the real estate industry is getting to meet new people every day and being able to help them through one of the biggest milestones in their lives buying or selling a home. Whether it’s helping someone purchase their rst home, upgrade to their next one, I truly enjoy being part of that journey. It’s especially rewarding to build strong, lasting relationships with my clients and earn their trust along the way.
Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? Rather than having one speci c role model, I’m inspired by individuals who consistently work hard, lead with integrity, and remain committed to personal growth. I learn from successful professionals in my industry and beyond, taking valuable lessons from each experience and applying them to my own career. This mindset keeps me motivated, adaptable, and

I spend most of my days doing ttings for customers and quite a bit of sewing!
What is the best thing about working in your industry? I feel like the best thing about working in my industry is, making my clients feel beautiful and authentic on one of the most important and special days of their life! I get to hear so many amazing stories daily, and have met some wonderful people in the community by being here.
Most of these women dream of their wedding day for years, so the dress should be everything they imagined it would be. I love being a part of that process.
Whether it’s something small, or a complete redesign, I nd joy in all of it and always have something fun to do when I show up to work each day.
Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? Several of my friends are also business owners and participate in local organizations around the Tri-City area, so they have helped me nd new opportunities to network, meet other business owners, and get involved in the community.
I feel lucky enough to be able to have those people to ask/o er support when it comes to balancing work life along with personal life sometimes.

What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? The Midland area has such a sense of community and family. I grew up in Grand Rapids so I never got to experience the small town feel until moving over to this area several years ago.

Describe a day on the job for you. Our days are often very busy and very di erent from day to day. Mornings often start with triaging emergencies, taking care of hospitalized patients, and prepping for surgeries. Mornings blend into afternoons quite quickly, lunch is usually a fast bite or forgotten about completely. Afternoons are lled with seeing appointments from routine vaccinations, to the very ill pet. Emergency visits are squeezed in between as needed.
The day is lled with the incredible highs of a new puppy or seeing an ill pet become well again. But also has the moments of overwhelming lows, shedding tears with an owner as they say goodbye to a beloved friend. Days end with physical and mental exhaustion, but it is absolutely worth it for those good moments.
What is the best thing about working in your industry? Truly the best thing about being a veterinarian is the relationships that we create. Most patients come in as a puppy or kitten and stay for their entire life. These aren’t just cases to us, these are animals and people that we have come to deeply care about.
In addition, every day is di erent and brings a new challenge. The veterinary eld is always evolving therefore we are always learning. This job never gets stagnant.
Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? I have met many veterinarians that have been instrumental in guiding my professional career.
During the beginning of my journey Dr. Jocelyn Jacobs was an incredible mentor and friend. She supported my

dreams of becoming a vet and helped me get into vet school.
Further into my career, my associate Dr. Janet Sherwood has been an excellent mentor. It has been wonderful to discuss and collaborate on di cult cases.
Who are some other notable young professionals in your professional network? There are many amazing young veterinarians, technicians, and assistants. During the spring, I am busy getting equipment ready for summer baling, planning out fertilizer for certain elds, and managing our beef cattle herd as they calve. In the summer, I spend most of my time baling hay and straw. We sell a majority of our hay and straw to our customers. We also bale hay for our cows to eat throughout the year. Describe a day on the job for you. A typical day in my role as Assistant Controller centers around leading and supporting our accounting team while ensuring the accuracy, e ciency, and consistency of our nancial operations across the credit union. I begin each day by reviewing daily accounting activity, verifying that entries, reconciliations, and operational processes are complete and accurate. Much of my time is focused on guiding my team—answering questions, resolving discrepancies, o ering support, and helping them grow in their roles.
Throughout the day, I collaborate closely with departments across the credit union, including Retail, Business Operations, Finance, and our Lending teams. This cross-functional partnership helps ensure smooth work ows, aligned processes, and quick resolution of issues that impact our members or internal operations. I often serve as a resource for procedural questions, system behavior, and process alignment to maintain consistency and compliance.
A signi cant part of my role involves working on both operational and strategic projects. These may include
process improvements, system updates, policy reviews, operational testing, and projects that enhance e ciency or strengthen internal controls. I enjoy balancing this project work with the day-to-day leadership of my Accounting team, ensuring we provide accurate, timely support to the organization.
No two days are the same, and that variety—combined with the opportunity to lead, collaborate, and improve processes—makes this role both rewarding and impactful.
What is the best thing about working in your industry? What I love most about the credit union industry is how deeply collaborative and community-focused it is. Everything we do is centered around helping people build stronger, more con dent nancial lives, and that sense of shared purpose creates an environment unlike any other. It’s an industry where relationships matter—where networking, learning from others, and working together across departments are part of everyday life. From my position in Accounting, I get the unique opportunity to support the entire organization by helping teams understand the story behind the numbers. I love being able to“paint a picture” that others might not immediately see, providing clarity and insight that ultimately supports better decisions for our members. Being part of a mission-driven, people- rst environment while also growing professionally through meaningful connections is what makes the credit union movement so rewarding to me.
Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? I would be nowhere without the mentors and supporters who have shaped my life and career. I am fortunate to have strong leadership around me, but I would be doing myself a disservice if I didn’t speci cally call out my boss, Alison. She has guided me through every step with unwavering encouragement and more belief in me than I often have in myself. Her trust, patience, and condence have pushed me to grow and take on challenges I never imagined I could.
My passion for credit union advocacy is something I owe to my mentor, Lisa. I would not know what I know today—or feel such a deep commitment to helping this industry

Alison Lutren, 34 Dow Credit Union
continue to grow and strengthen our communities—without her in uence. She has never hesitated to bring me along, introduce me to anyone she can, or o er thoughtful guidance whenever I need it. She is a true example of the leader and person I aspire to become.
I also wouldn’t be where I am without my team. They continually inspire me to be better— a better leader, a better colleague, and a better person. Every day, I come to work hoping I can positively impact their careers and lives in the same way they impact mine.
And beyond my professional world, I owe so much to the support of my husband, my friends, and my family. I worked all through college, both undergrad and graduate school. I’ve put in long hours, I’ve missed events, and there
are times when I haven’t been as present as I should be.Yet through all of it, they have stood by me, encouraged me, and believed in the long-term vision right alongside me. I truly wouldn’t be where I am without their unwavering love and support.
Who are some other notable young professionals in your professional network? I think Midland has a great number of young professionals who are noteworthy – too many to list, and that’s due to how much support we have for young professionals and their success in Midland. If you’re looking to grow your network and you haven’t, there are so many opportunities. MyPros is a great program to start and they’re extremely welcoming. Get involved in the Midland Business Alliance and volunteer, go to the city of Midland website or go down to Senior Services and chat about the needs in the community. I think we have great community programs here to get involved in as aYoung Professional to not just help grow your network but better the community. If you haven’t checked out Hidden Harvest or Midlands Open Door, I strongly encourage you to grab aYoung Professional in your network and go see how you can help.
What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? I truly love being able to know the people around me and to see the di erence I’m making. When you volunteer, you witness the impact rsthand because you’re helping the people right here in your own community. Living in Sanford, I watched neighbors and local businesses come together during the ood, and it was incredible to see how deeply people care for one another. That spirit of compassion and unity is inspiring. It’s one of the many reasons I’m proud to work for a nancial institution that wants to make a meaningful di erence—not just in my community, but across the state and even around the world. Being part of an organization with that level of purpose and heart reminds me every day why this work matters.

Residence: Midland
Hobbies: Playing basketball, reading, hiking
Describe a day on the job for you: A typical day at the job starts early. I’m up around 6 a.m. and at the station by 7, where I spend the morning researching stories, developing unique angles, and fully immersing myself in the topics I’ll be discussing on air. From 9 a.m. to noon, I host The Ben Bosscher Show, broadcasting live on 100.9 The Mitt FM, as well as YouTube and Facebook. After the show wraps, I take time to recharge before shifting focus to content creation—clipping key moments from the broadcast and repurposing them into engaging digital and social media content that extends the show beyond the airwaves, but into the phones of millions across Michigan.
What is the best thing about working in your industry? The best part of working in this industry is that I get to talk about sports for a living. The conversations I’d normally be having with friends o the clock are the same conversations I get to have on the air every day. At my core, I’m a sports fanatic, and being able to turn that passion into a career is something I don’t take for granted. It’s a privilege to do what I love and share that enthusiasm with an audience.
Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? One of my biggest role models in the industry is Bill Simmons. I’ve admired him from a distance for how he built his own brand, carved out a unique voice, and rede ned what success in sports media can look like. His ability to turn passion into something far bigger than traditional expectations mirrors what we strive to do every day atThe Mitt—creating original content, growing our platform, and pushing beyond what’s typically expected in local sports media.
Who are some other notable young professionals in your professional network?
• Brad Tunney - GM of 100.9 The Mitt
• Sarah Stockford – Director of Sales at 100.9 The Mitt
• John Vicari – Program Manager and Voice of the

Loons/High School Sports at 100.9 The Mitt
• Kyle Sandel – Producer at 100.9 the Mitt
• Carlos Garcia – Content Coordinator for the Great Lakes Loons
What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? My favorite part about working in the Midland area comes down to two things. First is the sense of togetherness. Midland isn’t a place people typically pass through, so it doesn’t always get the same attention as larger cities like Detroit, Grand Rapids, or Lansing. But once you’re here, it’s immediately clear how strong and welcoming the community is, lled with genuinely extraordinary people.
Second is how bike-friendly the city is. During the summer months, I can bike to work, the gym, or just about anywhere I need to go. Describe a day on the job for you. Everyday is di erent for me, no day is ever like the last. Most days, I’m working back in the kitchen baking desserts to sell in our cases. It can be French Macarons, sugar cookies, cupcakes or cake tru es. I’m also the Kitchen Manager, so I’m often found helping my co-workers when they need me.
What is the best thing about working in your industry? I love being able to bake and create things all day! I get to bake new recipes that I might not have tried at home. And of course with testing new recipes, that means I get a taste test. :)
Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? My mom and dad are my role models, they have taught me the value and importance of hard work. My boss, the owner and operator of The Gourmet Cupcake Shoppe, Carrie Fisher, is my main mentor. She has helped shape my baking career throughout the years of my employment where I began as customer service support and have now grown to Kitchen Manager and Lead Decorator. I was never interested in baking growing up. When I started working here, it peaked my interest and now I’ve made a full career out of it. Carrie has helped me do things I never thought I could do.

Madison Rapcka, 28
The Gourmet Cupcake Shoppe
Who are some other notable young professionals in your professional network? Two of my co-workers, Kathryn Lamont and Margaret Hrymecki. They show up to work everyday with a good attitude, are always willing to help me when I need it, and I love being able to watch them grow in their own careers here.
What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? The fact that I get to work in the Midland area and meet new people while helping bring their ideas to life for their special moments and events.
Whether I’m talking with our customers to help them come up with the ideas for the designs or avors of desserts they would like or I’m actually in the kitchen baking and decorating and bringing that vision to life I’m just happy to be a part of their special days!

Spouse: John Plamondon
Hobbies: In my free time, I enjoy hobbies that change with the seasons. Summer means sunshine, outdoor concerts, and exploring Michigan’s great outdoors through camping and ATV riding. When the colder months arrive, I enjoy slowing down with crafting projects and genealogy research.
Church, volunteer organizations: My passion for youth development began as a youth member of Midland County 4-H. For a program that gave so much to me, I couldn’t imagine not giving back. After aging out as a youth member, I returned to volunteer with my former 4-H club, Heart of the Country, where I have now served for 13 years. I have also been a member of the Midland County 4-H Council for six years.
As my involvement with 4-H grew, it led me to serve in additional volunteer roles at the Midland County Fairgrounds. These opportunities have included being a member of the Midland County Junior Fair Board and, for the past four years, managing the Midland County Fair Pageant.
Describe a day on the job for you. After seven years of serving members across as many as eight counties at a time, I can con dently say that no two days are ever the same, which is one of the things I love most about my job. My primary focus is growing the Girl Scout program and providing meaningful support to volunteers in my assigned areas.
Much of my workday centers on engaging with girls and their families to help them form new Girl Scout
troops or nd existing ones. This happens through participating in creative community events, as well as hosting programs that give families a rsthand Girl Scout experience.
When I’m not working with girls and families, I support our volunteers, the lifeblood of Girl Scouts. They serve in many various roles, but most importantly, they are all dream-fostering role models for girls! I support them with any questions as they work to provide girls with an excellent Girl Scout experience.
In addition to program growth and volunteer support, I build strong community relationships, seeking opportunities for Girl Scouts to give back and for community members to share their skills with our girls.
What is the best thing about working in your industry? That’s easy, the girls! There’s nothing more moving than watching a girl grow. When a girl who is shy starts speaking up in her troop because she realizes her troop is a safe space, or when girls support each other trying new things, that’s Girl Scouts magic. And the second best part? Watching volunteers grow alongside them, gaining con dence, skills, and friendships just like the girls.
Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? My path has been shaped by many people who inspired me personally and professionally. My family provided unwavering support through life’s ups and downs, from driving me where I needed to go to cheering me on as I sold what felt like the millionth at of owers, tub of cookie dough, or pizza kit. They instilled strong morals, values, and a strong work ethic.

I’m also grateful to teachers, professors, and mentors who believed in me and helped me grow. My passion for youth development was sparked by Sally Wietfeldt, a Michigan State University Extension’s 4-H Program Coordinator, who encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone and entrusted me with responsibilities that built lasting con dence. As an adult, I’ve been fortunate to have many inspiring role models in the Midland community and at Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan.
Who are some other notable young professionals in your professional network? That is a tough question. Being involved in many social and
professional opportunities throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region has allowed me to meet so many inspiring young professionals. Two individuals who stand out to me are Kirsten Morey and Sara Reisinger.
Kirsten is a Community Health Educator at MyMichigan Health, and she truly seems to be everywhere doing meaningful work. I am inspired by her enthusiasm and her strong commitment to improving community health wherever she goes.
Sara is a manager of her family’s sixth-generation apple orchard and farm market, Leaman’s Green Applebarn. I have had the pleasure of watching Sara and her family’s passion for helping people experience agriculture grow over the years. The continued success of their farm is a true testament to their dedication to families across the Great Lakes Bay Region. If you have not stopped for a scrumptious cider donut or attended one of their fun events, you are truly missing out.
What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? As I continue working in communities throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region and beyond, I have come to see that Midland has a unique sense of collaboration that truly supports community success. From nonpro t meetings to the Midland Business Alliance to initiatives like the Youth Impact Partnership, organizations in Midland County work together in ways I have not experienced to the same extent in other communities.
I am especially impressed by the role The Legacy Center for Community Success plays in guiding these e orts. Their use of survey data to inform decisions and address gaps in the community adds tremendous value to local conversations and helps ensure that initiatives are both meaningful and e ective.

Describe a day on the job for you. What is the best thing about working in your industry? Being part of a long-standing family business that values dependability and quality work, pride in producing top-tier products that make snowmobiling safer and racing faster.
Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? Lorie Vincent and Donald Jirkovsky are two gures who are both mentors and role models in my life. Their work aligns perfectly in championing growth, connectivity, and prosperity for their area and beyond. This makes them inspiring examples of dedicated leaders who turn vision into action. I have had the pleasure to work alongside both of them, and they continue to be my support and driving force to help leave the communities I live in better than when I got there.
Who are some other notable young professionals in your professional network? Abigail Ouderkirk, Amy Raetz-Benner, Ashley RaetzMeyers, Carter and Hunter Musselman, Amanda LaLone, Hannah Furnier,

What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? The incredible connectivity, both in terms of people and opportunities, and the tremendous lineup of events paired with steady economic growth, keep the community buzzing with energy and progress. Midland continues to invest in downtown revitalization, new developments, ood resiliency projects, and business attractions, positioning the area for sustained progress even amid broader industry shifts. It’s inspiring to see a place that not just holds steady but actively grows, with opportunities in innovation, sustainability, and community-driven success.

Describe a day on the job for you. It’s all over the place. Between meetings with clients and helping them with their projects, to meeting with my team to discuss new products that we are releasing. Most of my day is spent in front of my computer or on the phone. Some days are fun though when we get to meet with our community partners and talk about all of the cool things going on that we can be involved in.
What is the best thing about working in your industry? Everyday is di erent. Some days are just boring meetings with accounting and project management, then the next day we are ghting the next biggest cyber threat. With technology it is always moving fast so half the fun is trying to keep up.
Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? There are a couple. The top of mind I can think about is my old boss Mike Lance. He taught me a lot about running a business, being a good leader, and leading with your heart.

Who are some other notable young professionals in your professional network? There are two I immediately think about… Matt Larson and Ali Huntoon. Both are champions for our community.
What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? The people. I have said it before… It takes a village. The people of this community are always willing to engage and solve the problems or make it a better place. Having lived in multiple di erent cities, Midland is just di erent. In a good way.

Residence: I live in Auburn, but have lived in the Midland area for the last 11 years. I grew up in Alma.
Spouse/Children: I am blessed to be the mom of three wonderful and amazing daughters. Natalie is 12, Hannah is 9, and Tessa is 7. We also have a goofy and lovable pit bull named Poppy.
Hobbies: I enjoy traveling, going to concerts, and attending in-person sporting events. I enjoy taking my kids to try new things and see new places. I love watching my kids in their sporting events. I also like to read, play pickleball, do yoga, and paint.
Church, volunteer organizations: My daughters and I attend Midland Nazarene. I have been a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters for the last year. I really love to take my“Little”(she is a teenager now) to do things she has never experienced before. Some of the outings we have enjoyed have been Saginaw Spirit hockey games, going to the mall or out to eat, the circus, and the Dow Gardens Christmas walk. We hope to start walking dogs at the animal shelter together when the weather warms up. Being a big to her has been very rewarding.
Describe a day on the job for you. I work at Plymouth Elementary, Central Park Elementary, and Northeast Middle School in Midland. I also occasionally go to the Juvenile Justice Center. My role is to support the district’s work in helping sta and students build resilience. It is a multi-layer approach which includes professional development, providing mindfulness lessons in classrooms for students and sta , coaching teachers on trauma-informed practices, providing structured re ection for educators after school, and helping students who may be having a hard time handling their emotions or behaviors in the moment. You will never have the same day twice, which is fun and also challenging at times.
What is the best thing about working in your industry? I really love the connections I am able to build with students and sta . I love knowing that I am
able to make a di erence. It is so rewarding when I can see a teacher use a strategy I suggested with a student, and it works. I love all the buildings I work in, but I especially love working with the middle school students. Middle school is all about exploration and growth, and it’s when kids really start to nd themselves. Before I started this position as an SEL specialist, I was a 6th-grade special education teacher at Northeast, so middle school students have a soft spot in my heart.
Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? My biggest role models are my parents and my own kids. My parents have always been there for me and supported me even as an adult. As a single parent, I work so hard to make sure my girls have a great life. They make me want to be the best version of myself I can.
Who are some other notable young professionals in your professional network? I work with a lot of amazing educators and have a great team of people to work with. Sarah Owens has led the way in developing the resiliency model MPS uses, and that work paved the way for what we currently do. My boss, Amanda Sherry, is also so supportive of making sure we are seen, heard, and valued not just as employees but as people with lives outside of work, too. My counterparts on my team, Allison Byron, Karen Muma, and Erin Boersma also go above and beyond to expand the role of social and emotional learning in our schools.
What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? I moved to Midland after graduating from CMU when my oldest daughter was two. I really love how Midland has a small-town feel but with the amenities of living in a bigger city.
Some of my favorite Midland-speci c things are the Riverdays Festival, Dow Gardens, City Forest, allll of the parks, and all of the free things there usually are to do downtown. We have strong community partnerships in Midland, and we all work together to do what’s best for students.

My husband and I are big fans of the Saginaw Spirit, Detroit sports, and Michigan football.
Church, volunteer organizations: I serve as a local childcare consultant with Cultural Care Au Pair, supporting international au pairs and host families in the Midland area.
Describe a day on the job for you. No two days look exactly the same, which is one of the things I love most about my work. My days often include providing individual therapy sessions, supporting adult women navigating mental health challenges and life transitions. I also spend time developing wellness groups that integrate animal-assisted interventions, supporting families and au pairs through my role as a Local Childcare Consultant, and intentionally building Root & Rise Therapy Co. There’s a balance of deep, meaningful clinical work and creative, entrepreneurial problem-solving, which keeps the work both challenging and ful lling!!
What is the best thing about working in your industry? The most meaningful part of my work is being trusted with people’s stories. Mental health care allows me to witness resilience, growth, and healing in real time. Supporting individuals as they gain insight, build coping skills, and feel more grounded in their lives is incredibly rewarding.
Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? One of my greatest in uences has been my mom, who consistently encouraged the value of education, curiosity, and personal growth. Her belief in

Describe a day on the job for you: I work as a Business Banking Relationship Manager, covering Huntington’s footprint in Midland, Mount Pleasant, Sanford, Auburn and Freeland. I work with our business clients up to $50 million in annual revenue, providing them tailored solutions for their banking needs.
What is the best thing about working in your industry? At Huntington our purpose is to make people’s lives better, help businesses thrive and strengthen the communities we serve. The last part of that purpose speaks to my favorite part of working in banking. I am able to use my talents and network to help improve our community and continue to make Midland the best place to live and raise a family!
Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? My dad, Bob, is my biggest role model. He helped teach me that hard work and a positive, respectful attitude are the keys to success and I have tried to take that to heart in my career. Additionally, my mom, Mary, and in-laws, Wally and Lindsay, have instilled a commitment to giving back to the community that has really helped shaped me, especially in

my career in banking. I’d also like to shout out two colleagues, and dear friends, that have helped me in my career journey, Marc Cesere and Joel Beeck. Both of them have helped me navigate the ever changing world of banking and wouldn’t be where I am in my career without the two of them.
Who are some other notable young professionals in your professional network? My colleagues Michelle Gould, Carson Butter eld, Zack Sanders and Hailey Pullano are four young professionals in Midland who are doing great things for Huntington and in our community.
What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? But, in my free time, I enjoy playing beach volleyball, growing houseplants, visiting local co ee shops, going to the gym, exploring all the recreational opportunities Midland has to o er, and spending time with family and friends.
Church, volunteer organizations: One thing I love about Midland, is the passion for volunteerism and the variety of ways a person can get involved and give back to their community. I’ve engaged in volunteer e orts with United Way, CAN Council, and the Foster Families & Navigation Resource Center. However, the “crowning jewel” of my volunteer e orts, would be with Big Brothers Big Sisters, where I have served as a Big Sister to my Little Sister, Brooke, for 4 years. In addition to my volunteer experiences, I am also a member of MyPros, Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition, and the MiAEYC (Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children).
Describe a day on the job for you. As the Site Based Programs Manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters, my role here is multifaceted and each day looks di erent depending on our program and agency needs at any given moment. I may be facilitating a Lunchbox Learners program session at one of our school sites, processing enrollments for Littles and Bigs, representing our agency at community events, connecting with families, meeting with community partners, developing program related trainings for our volunteers, working on program curriculum, engaging in caseload and program management tasks, o ering individualized support to our volunteers, or collaborating with my team on how we can better serve our program participants and ultimately our communities. Our agency serves Midland, Bay, Saginaw, and Isabella counties and within those
counties we currently run 11 site based programs at local elementary schools that serve 65 youth ages kindergarten through 5th grade; there is always work to be done to ensure that we are e ectively meeting the unique needs of the youth we serve and o ering high quality programs!
What is the best thing about working in your industry? The best thing about working for a nonpro t whose mission is to help young people achieve and unlock their potential is knowing the work we do is impactful and profound. Through providing youth with exposure to experiences, places, people, and opportunities they may not have had access to otherwise and supporting them in navigating and overcoming hardships and challenges, we foster resilience, help them plan for their futures, and guide them in seeing the bigger picture. Zoë Murray, 30 Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Great Lakes Bay Region
young professionals and colleagues at Big Brothers Big Sisters who all live, breathe, and believe in our agency’s mission and vision. Outside of our organization, I have had the opportunity to connect, collaborate, and work alongside other exceptional young professionals from workplaces such as Safe and Sound Child Advocacy Network, Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan, Children’s Grief Center, The ROCK, The Legacy Center, United Way, and many more. Each of these partnerships and connections help to strengthen the ties I have to the community and enhance the work I do at Big Brothers Big Sisters.
What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? As a Midland native, giving back to the community I grew up in and am now raising my own family in, is priceless. To know that I am one of the individuals working to make Midland and the surrounding areas an inclusive, safe place for youth to grow, learn, develop, and thrive is what makes the job meaningful and rewarding.

Residences: Haley, Brad and Grant live in Midland.
What inspired you to open your business: Nord Social arrived out of shared personal observations and quiet frustrations. We saw people craving connection around us, but Midland is lacking in the number of evening spaces to go and hang out. We wanted to o er something di erent and modern that’s usually found in larger markets. We worked together to design a true third place where people are able to slow down and connect.
Describe a day on the job at your business. We are fortunate to oversee a great general manager and bartending team who cover the daily shifts behind the bar. As owners, we stay involved in the nances and accounting, social media, event management, and work closely with partners who have helped us put on a number of events. Every day, there are tasks in at least one of these areas. On occasion, we also get to bartend, which is a special way for us to connect with our guests.
What is the best thing about working in your industry? It’s a direct way to connect with a large variety of people, where we play a role in creating

Each day may start the same- get in, turn on the table and towel warmers, fold laundry, make the massage table, and get the music started for the day to create that peaceful ambiance my clients look forward to coming into. But each day is vastly di erent. I get to work with each client individually and tailor a massage session speci cally to them based on how they’re feeling in that moment! No two massages

Describe a day on the job for you. Every day at the bakery is a balance of creativity, leadership, and problem-solving. I have the pleasure of overseeing everything from team leadership and training to operations, quality control, and the overall guest experience. My days start early, often behind the counter, serving our rst customers and brewing co ee — my greatest passion! From there, the day unfolds into managing the business, supporting the team, and making sure everything runs smoothly.
Woven into that are the creative pieces I love most, from designing our co ee bar menu and telling our story through social media to planning for busy holiday seasons and collaborating with catering and wholesale partners. Every item we make is crafted from scratch — from our medicinal sourdough to seasonal sweets — and our co ee is sourced and prepared with precision according to SCA standards to bring Midland the best cup! All of this requires ongoing research, continuous improvement, and community education about the craft we’re sharing. Being both hands-on and behind the scenes makes the work deeply rewarding, especially knowing we’re creating a space that provides Mid-Michigan with real high-quality goodies!
What is the best thing about working in your industry? The best part of working in this industry is the people! It’s a classic answer, yes, but it’s true — getting to know the people who walk through our
doors and being part of their celebrations, traditions, and everyday moments is incredibly rewarding.
I deeply value the relationships built behind the scenes, from collaborating with other local businesses to working alongside our amazing sta each day. The team we’ve built at the bakery, together with everyone involved, is amazing and continually motivates and energizes me. Those relationships are what make my job exciting every single day!
Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? At the heart of it, my parents have been my greatest in uences. My father, an experienced professional in engineering management, instilled strong leadership and organizational skills, while my mother — a mom to seven and now an active re ghter and EMT — exempli ed resilience, compassion, and service. Together, they balanced a family of nine while lling our lives with travel, adventure, and meaningful experiences. Beyond them, I’ve been shaped by the people I’ve encountered through my travels and everyday moments — those who lead with warmth, take pride in their craft, and create memorable experiences through genuine service. Those examples continue to guide how I show up for our guests and our team and shape my belief in what genuine hospitality looks like.
Who are some other notable young professionals in your professional network? Many of the young professionals in my network are part of the community we’ve built at the bakery — our team, regular guests, and local partners who value quality, connection, and collaboration. What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? Midland has a strong sense of community. People genuinely support local businesses, and you get to know the people you serve! What I’ve really come to appreciate is how much of a melting pot the area is — it’s often not until you sit down and truly talk with someone that you discover the unique paths, backgrounds, and experiences people bring with them. It makes everyday interactions meaningful and is especially rewarding when folks recognize the quality & care we put into our artisan baked goods and specialty co ee.
