LAKER

State Star Finalist Agribusiness

Every year, the Michigan FFA recognizes members who go above and beyond in their Supervised Agricultural Experiences, or SAE’s, in their respective categories.The Star in Agribusiness award is presented to the member with the top nonproduction agribusiness SAE in the state of Michigan. Members are to demonstrate outstanding achievement, undergo multiple interviews, organize years of SAE records, and display active FFA participation.

This year, Klaire Reibling was named a finalist in the State Star in Agribusiness Category with her business Reibling Grain & Show Feed.

State Winning Proficiency Award

These awards honor FFA members who, through their supervised agricultural experiences (SAE), have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers. Klaire Reibling was named a State Proficiency Winner for her SAE and ownership of Reibling Grain & Show Feed, under the category Agricultural Sales Entrepreneurship.

Greenhand Conduct of Meetings

This contest is exclusive to 9th grade members, in their first official year to compete in high school contests.They learn a total of 11 abilities, of which 3 are randomly drawn and assigned to members of the team to be demonstrated during their meeting.Team members are then asked ten questions to round out their performance.

We had two teams who advanced to the state level contest to complete: President Falyn Kreider, Khloe Genow, LeeAnn Kubacki, Madalynn Warneck, Maeson Kady, Sam De Oliveira and Bradyn Craig.

Agricultural Issues

Teams participating in this contest consist of 3-7 FFA members where they perform a skit detailing an agricultural issue.These skits are between ten and fifteen minutes in length and allows students to showcase their creativity in props, dialog, as well as knowledge.

We had one team advance to the state level contest to compete.Their topic was titled “Right 2 Repair”, which focused on the right to repair laws that aim to protect consumers’ ability to repair their products instead of having to go through the manufacturer.They had to discuss and explain to the audience the advantages and disadvantages of this agricultural topic, as well as answer questions following their presentation.

Team members consisted of:

Kate Hill, Megan Strieter, Madison Scaddan, Charlotte Scaddan, Kaylee Shaw, Mariam Shupe, and Allison WIlliams.

Parliamentary Procedure

The highest level of running effective meetings, students demonstrate,18 abilities, 5 are assigned during their meeting; additionally they must solve a topic and provide debate related to their item of business. Students also demonstrate their knowledge through a written test, prior to delivering their presentation to a panel of judges.

Our team placed 4th in the state! Team members are: Hesston Keim, Chair, Olivia Hooper, Secretary, Sadie Steinmam, Skylar Steinman, Lydia Rokicki, Henry Haag, Eva Zagorski.

Every year, a select few students are chosen to represent the Laker FFA Chapter in a delegate voting process. Delegates this year voted on bylaw changes to the Michigan FFA Board of Directors, experienced a house session at our state’s capitol, and were able to be on the House floor, and recognized 2 House of Representatives with their Honorary Michigan FFA Degree. On Friday, they listened to the speeches of the state officer candidates, then voted to install the 2025-2026 State FFA Officer team.

This year Anya Cardoza, Audrey McNabb and Faith Suggitt represented the Laker FFA as delegates at the State FFA Convention.

State FFA Degree

The coveted State Degree is one of the most prestigious awards that an FFA member can receive, right under their American Degree.

This year the following

Outstanding Junior Degree

Members who have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, participated in at least 1 activity above the chapter level and have 10 community service hours qualify for their Outstanding Junior Degree.
