The Bad Axe girls soccer team earned their first district championship since 2014 with a 2-1 shootout win over Harbor Beach. It was Bad Axe’s third win over the Pirates in 2019.

Golf team claims regional title, qualifies for state tournament The Bad Axe golf team claimed its second consecutive regional championship in early June, with seniors Colby Meeks and Sam McAlpine leading the way. Meeks carded an 81 and McAlpine shot an 82. The Hatchets placed 11th in the Division 4 state tournament.

Knarian ends stellar prep career at Division 3 finals Bad Axe senior track star David Knarian reached the podium twice at the Division 3 state finals in Jension, placing fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 4:22.39. A group consisting of Knarian, James Kervin, Jack Fitzpatrick and Jensen Emerick finished seventh in the 1,600 relay, with a time of 3:30.66.

Red Hawks cap unforgettable season with district crown The Cass City softball team had a memorable 2019, winning their first district title since 2003 and earning 26 wins. The Red Hawk offense plated 354 runs, averaging 10.4 per game, hit 19 home runs and had an overall average of .401.

Lakers capture district crown The Elkton-PigeonBay Port baseball team upended Cass City to claim a district championship in early June. The Lakers, led by pitcher Anthony Sheridon, blanked the Red Hawks 1-0. Sheridon struck out nine on his way to a complete-game shutout.

H. Beach has strong showing at state finals The Harbor Beach girls track and field led area teams in scoring at the Division 4 finals.

Makayla Roberts, Kayla Klee, Paige Anderson and Makara Kramer teamed up for a sixthplace finish in the 800 relay with a time of 1:50.95. Anderson, a freshman, finished fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:02.25.

In the state finals at Hudsonville, senior Haili Gusa finished fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:26.80 and 1,600 with a time of 5:25.19, while Isle Roggenbuck placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 34-10.5.

UBLY GOLF

Bearcats nab victory at Capac Jamboree Ubly earned a Greater Thumb East victory in early May at the Capac Jamboree at Holly Meadows. The Bearcats took home the win, with a score of 207, followed by Capac (228) and Brown City (236). Ubly was led by Blake Badger’s 49, followed by Ethan Peruski (51), Nathan Particka (52) and Eli Emming (55).
