Foreword

The year 2017 has begun on a very special note as the winners of the inaugural edition of The Annual Health Awards were awarded at a star-studded gala event at The Godolphin Ballroom, Jumeirah Emirates Towers. Jointly hosted by Dubai’s Department of Economic Development (DED) and HEALTH magazine, the event was a first-of-its-kind gathering of more than 600 healthcare professionals and leaders of the UAE, including private and public sector. His Excellency Humaid Obeid Al Qutami, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dubai Health Authority, the chief guest of the event, presented The Annual Health Awards 2017 to 34 outstanding contributors in both the public and private sectors, and 8 legendary personalities, for their pioneering roles in shaping the healthcare industry of the region. The event was graced by popular Arabic singer Ms. Diana Haddad and leading Indian movie stars like Ms. Karisma Kapoor, Mr. Jayaram, Mr. Rana Daggubati, and the British professional boxer Mr. Anthony Joshua, MBE.

We are pleased to have on-board the world renowned medical education expert and a famous Pediatric Surgeon Professor Hossam Hamdy, who has been appointed as the Chancellor of our university. He brings with him more than four decades of rich experience to take the institution to a different level, and will bring in international standards and new systems into the university. The university is on a path of progression, and we are confident that the operational plans and strategies that are being designed by our newly appointed Chancellor will further reinforce the standards and quality of teaching and training offered by various colleges of the university.

The American College of Healthcare Executives MENA Group, in collaboration with Thumbay Hospitals, organized a Face-to-Face Education Seminar entitled “Leading and Managing Change”. Leading international faculty of ACHE Mr. Tom Atchison conducted the workshop which was attended by 40 leading healthcare executives and leaders from the region. We are happy to inform that Aafiya TPA Services has received the Best Insurance TPA award presented by the International Finance Magazine (IFM) Awards 2016.

We have constituted a new Board of Governors headed by me. The new members include Prof. Hossam Hamdy, Chancellor of GMU, and the Provost Prof. Gita Ashok Raj apart from international experts from the fields of education, research, and healthcare. The main agenda of the Board of Governors meeting was the transformation of the university into a leading academic healthcare system. The university is expanding its network of affiliated Thumbay academic hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and diagnostic labs. The Thumbay academic hospital network will have a total of 1000 beds in the UAE, 1500 beds in India, and 750 beds elsewhere in the Gulf and Africa by 2022, taking the total

We had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Guillaume Huart, Regional Counselor for Health, Middle East at the Embassy of France. He was impressed with the comprehensive, integrated academic healthcare system at the institution. The university had the privilege of hosting a high-level delegation from Finland led by the Honorable Ms. Pirkko Mattila, Minister of Social Affairs and Health for Finland. The delegation included H.E. Ms. Riitta Swan, Ambassador of Finland and a host of other esteemed dignitaries from the healthcare sector, education, and business industries. We had some very promising discussions between some of the Finnish companies, healthcare professionals, and educators, and we are looking forward to building more opportunities for collaboration and cooperation. I am very pleased to inform you all that Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President, Healthcare Division and board member of Thumbay Group, has been inducted into the ‘Alumni Wall of Fame’ of the American University of Sharjah (AUS), in recognition of his merit and professional accomplishments, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates, Ruler of Sharjah and President of AUS, and attended by more than 2,000 AUS alumni from all over the world.

Thumbay Clinic, Umm Al Quwain has been named the Distinguished Private Medical Facility by the Ministry of Health, Umm Al Quwain Medical District. The clinic was chosen for the award based on a detailed evaluation of multiple criteria such as standards of patient care, the premises, treatment facilities, parking space availability, use of information technology, and the like. Until my next interaction with you, I wish each one of you all the best in all your endeavors. Being pregnant for any woman is a turning point in life as the entire body changes and shifts to make room for the growing baby. Yet many women are dismayed to discover they have acquired gestational diabetes somewhere along the way of their pregnancy. HEALTH presents the facts about this condition‌

What it Means Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is defined as carbohydrate intolerance that begins or is first recognized during pregnancy, explains Specialist Obstetrician and Gynecologist Dr. Shiva Harikrishnan. She adds that in most cases, the diagnosis of GDM is made in the late second or early third trimester.

Facts As many as 40 to 50 percent of women developing GDM will go on to develop overt type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) during pregnancy. According to Harikrishnan, for the prevention of GDM, appropriate screening programs have to be adopted. “Universal screening for GDM at 28 to 30 weeks of gestation is an optimum strategy, but it is considered by some to be too expensive,� she says, however, a multidisciplinary approach involving a dietician, diabetic

physician, and diabetic nurse is the cornerstone for its successful management.

Complications Some risks that can arise in the baby whose mother had GDM include: risk of preterm labor, being a big baby at birth, traumatic delivery due to macrosomia, congenital anomalies for baby, or unexplained fetal death.

Preferred Diet It is advised to include more green leafy vegetables, salads, spinach, fiber, and whole foods. Also, try to avoid excess consumption of foods high on the glycemic index scale. This includes rice, potatoes, starchy breads and sweets, especially in women having high risk for GDM.

Risk Factors OBESITY BMI of more than 25, weight more than 85 kilos, or excessive weight gain.

AGE Greater than 35 years.

RECURRENT INFECTIONS This includes vulvovaginitis and urinary tract infections.

A Dangerous Trend Pregorexia is a new buzz word that is similar to anorexia, but one that occurs during and after pregnancy and causes the woman who suffers from it guilt and shame similar to what is experienced by almost all sufferers of anorexia. In fact, some women have been struggling with disordered eating before conception and these symptoms have continued into pregnancy. Most of the time these women know they are restricting calories and it is not good for them or the baby’s development.

Media Media messages can contribute to the point where attractiveness is portrayed as an ideal that is mostly unattainable for the majority of the female population. Many women struggle with these images, even girls as young as 13 years old feel pressured by these media images, most of which are airbrushed and digitally manufactured. From a psychological perspective, this perpetuates the feeling of ‘not being good enough’. Also, by restricting nutritional intake, the body goes into a state of crisis. The human brain needs sucrose in order to think, analyze, and make healthy decisions.

The Reality According to experts, all pregnant women, no matter what they weigh prior to pregnancy, must gain weight and that weight gain has short-and long-term consequences for the health of the mother. Preg-

nant women need an extra 300 calories daily which equates to about 1,900 to 2,500 calories a day and afterwards, an extra 500 calories daily during breastfeeding. A proper diet during pregnancy includes proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, and plenty of water. Rather than consuming three large meals a day, experts advise to stick to five or six small meals per day. Also, aim to consume fruits and vegetables high in water content such as tomatoes, watermelon, grapefruit, strawberries, lettuce, spinach, zucchini, and grapes.

Reasons Dieting Can Be Harmful

During pregnancy, it is very important not to restrict the diet. An unborn baby might not receive the right amounts of protein, vitamin and minerals and low caloric diets can affect and breakdown a pregnant woman’s stored fat, which may lead to the production of ketones. These are found in the mother’s blood and urine and are a sign of starvation and constant production of ketones may result in a mentally slow child. Calcium deficiency can lead to osteoporosis and a lack of folic acid and the B complex group from dairy products and green leafy vegetables may lead to neural tube defects. In fact, women who enter pregnancy at a normal BMI and gain within the recommended ranges are more likely to have a good birth outcome. H

Easing Pain and Discomfort

During pregnancy, the body goes through an important transformation in preparation for the birth of the baby, explains Physiotherapist Marilyne Lopes. “Pregnancy causes the release of hormones into the body, impacting muscles and ligaments,” she says and this allows more mobility of joints, especially of the pelvic area, particularly needed during childbirth. While this is nature’s way of preparing the body for the arrival of the baby, Lopes points out that the extra flexibility, added extra weight gain, and a new body posture takes some getting used to. “Sadly, our current lifestyles, mainly sedentary, doesn’t prepare the body for these changes, making the woman’s body more prone to pain and aches such as lower back and pelvic girdle pain,” she says. “The best solution to overcome these musculoskeletal problems is to prepare the body with the help of specific exercises.” Mar/Apr 2017

According to Lopes, antenatal exercises are designed for the pregnant woman’s body, and are absolutely safe if performed correctly. “There are a variety of therapies for every stage of pregnancy and it is vital to maintain muscular strength and spinal mobility,” she says. “The good news is under the guidance of a professional team of osteopaths and physiotherapists, a pregnant woman can maintain her strength and cardiovascular fitness right through her pregnancy and after.”

Also, during the pregnancy massage, Lopes explains that therapists understand how to properly support the growing child, while giving the mother some relief from the pain and discomfort she may be feeling. “It is a delicate process but one that mothers-to-be will find incredible with reduction in cramps and fatigue,� she says. Other benefits include: a reduction in tension based headaches that result from pain in the neck, back and shoulders; improved blood flow to the fetus, allowing for more nutrient and oxygen to reach it, resulting in better development of the baby and fewer complications. Also, increased serotonin levels as the body becomes relaxed, creating a positive experience for both the mother and her unborn child; reduced pressure and pain in the pelvic and rectal areas; and reduced risks and complications often associated with pregnancy such as gestational diabetes, anxiety, depression, nausea, cramping, and swelling. Rather, you should only work the outer abdominal muscles without strengthening the underlying ones.

Tips for Postnatal Fitness Mommies

• Do not return to a postnatal fitness workout until bleeding has stopped. If a woman gave birth via cesarean section, she needs to wait until her doctor permits her to rejoin the class. • Schedule for your daily exercise, even walking with a stroller or a few sets of stretches during your baby’s nap time; find some time each day to move your body. • Take it easy and start getting back slowly with a postnatal fitness workout to tone the transvers, your deepest

abdominal muscle quickly. If your doctor says: “you are good to go”, then try a few easy moves. • Choose the right fitness class— be it Pilates, yoga, or a fitness workout—according to your body condition. One important thing is to talk to your fitness instructor for the correct instructions for your exercises; it depends on each body’s condition. • Breathing is also very important so find a few minutes to breathe with purpose, your body will benefit from the oxygen and stress will slowly go away. • Make the effort to consume more fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and try to eat whole foods. Be sure to drink water to avoid dehydration, especially if you are breastfeeding. • Resting is also important. He adds, “However, it is normal that transversus abdominis (TA) and pelvic floor (PD) exercises can be performed immediately post labor.” In the case of a delivery via cesarean section, women should not exercise for 12 weeks after delivery to allow proper healing time. Question: My first two kids were born via c-section and now I am about to deliver my third baby. What are the chances of my having to undergo another c-section? Dr. Muhaj Mahdi Al Shaikhly, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist responds: “Since you are considering a vaginal birth after two c-sections, you should have a detailed discussion with a senior obstetrician about the potential risks, benefits and success rate in your individual situation. Vaginal birth after caesarean section (VBAC) is normally an option for most women but should be the safest decision. This will however, depend on several conditions such as: your baby’s head should face downwards, your baby isn’t considered large, and if the conditions for your having your first c-sections do not exist in your current pregnancy.”

RISK FACTORS FOR LASER TREATMENT FOR THE FACE Question: I am of Arabic origin and have a brown colored skin. I am looking to have laser treatment done for my face and not sure what laser is safe for my skin type. Please advise.

Dr. Hassan Galadari, Specialist Dermatologist responds: “The safest laser for our skin type is the 1064 NdYAG laser, but the 810 Diode is effective and fast too. Remember, burns are quite common and may be caused by three different things: the wrong laser used, the technician using a higher power, or the skin of the patient being tanned. Certain lasers, especially for hair removal, use the pigment as the target or chromophore, so if the person is dark caused by tanning, it won’t be just the hair that will heat up and melt, but also the skin.”

Post-Partum Thyroiditis Post-partum thyroiditis (PPT) is a temporary painless inflammation of the thyroid gland that occurs the first year after delivery, explains Specialist Gynecologist Dr. Iliana Dmitrieva. “It occurs within the first year after delivery, usually from eight weeks to four months postpartum,� she explains with varying symptoms that are often dismissed as a normal part after delivery.

Symptoms Knowing that fatigue is the most frequent symptom of PPT, it may be used as an indicator leading to the observation of other symptoms. Other symptoms in addition to fatigue may include: goiter, dry skin, constipation, weight gain, and cold intolerance. Goiter is the most common physical sign; it is the painless enlargement of the thyroid gland- this symptom along with an excessive need to sleep are obvious reasons for seeking treatment from the family doctor.

Pay Attention Fairly early on postpartum, pay close attention to symptoms of any hormonal imbalances, and have all your hormone levels tested periodically, including thyroid, progesterone, testosterone, and estrogen as well.

A Healthy Thyroid A healthy, well-functioning thyroid gland is important to everyone, but is especially important to women in their childbearing years. A woman's thyroid status not only affects her overall health, but can also have a significant impact on the health and the well-being of the children she bears. In addition to increasing the risk of developing postpartum thyroiditis, the presence of antithyroid antibodies has been linked to an increased incidence of infertility, miscarriage, and postpartum depression.

Prognosis Some researchers believe that most patients recover spontaneously and no treatment is needed. A majority of women will return to normal, several months to as much as a year after postpartum thyroid diagnosis, and will never have another problem. Other women have postpartum thyroid problems after every pregnancy, but otherwise things return to normal, until menopause. H

“The main objective of a trichologist is to prevent further hair loss, scalp irritation, and to stimulate new hair growth. The process begins with a thorough diagnosis using a careful checkup and full investigation to check the various types of hair loss and scalp problems that could arise. The trichologist will then advise treatment.

How do you examine hair?

“Damaged hair can be examined with a special lamp called a Wood’s lamp. The lamp provides filtered UV light used more to check for fungal infections. However, the hair shaft can also be easily visualized under such a lamp. Higher details of damaged hair can be easily seen.”

How is the scalp cleansed properly?

The Pressure

According to Life Coach Emily Cheyne, women are feeling more and more self- conscious about their weight at all stages of life. “In the UK, the NHS states that lower weight is one of the preconditions for getting any assisted conception,” she explains and this has now reached women who feel overweight and they feel they are no longer empowered to even try and have a baby. “The pattern with many of my female clients is that they place too much pressure on themselves,” she says, and all these pressures equal increased stress which has a huge impact on other areas of

Remember, when buying your trainers for fitness, it is not about the latest trend or fashion but what’s ideal for the type of runner you are. Understanding key factors like high arch, overpronation, and neutral is important.

Pronation

Foot pronation is a key point in selecting the ideal shoe and in fact, running shoes are developed exactly for different pronation styles. Pronation means how the foot rolls when you walk and run. It is included in the natural

movement that helps the lower leg cope with shock, and happens at the joint under the ankle right after the foot hits the ground. Some individuals pronate more—known as overpronation while some less— known as underpronation, than others. Knowing your particular pronation style is a big factor when choosing a pair of trainers.

Main Types Neutral: These are suggested

for runners who need optimal midsole padding and are ideal for biomechanically skilled runners who have just a bit of pronation in

their foot strike.

Support: These are advised for runners who are mild-to-average overpronators with low to normal arches in their feet.

Performance: These are

advised for training and still have support and padding, however weighing around 250 grams or less, are more slender than other shoes.

Keep Hydrated Drinking water prevents dehydration, regulates body temperature and lubricates your joints. To maintain proper hydration, drink plenty of water before, during and after exercise: Before: • Drink 500 milliliters of water at least four hours before exercise. • Drink 250 milliliters of water 10 to15 minutes before exercise. During: • Training for less than 60 minutes: Drink 100 to 250 milliliters of water every 15 to 20 minutes. • Training for more than 60 minutes: 100 to 250 milliliters of a sports beverage every 15 to 20 minutes After: • Drink 500 to 750 milliliters of water straight after exercise and training.

2. Protein Fix Protein helps rebuild and repair muscles damaged during training. You should aim to eat between 1.2 to 1.7 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. Examples of protein-rich foods: • 1 egg is equal to 6 grams of protein • 0.85 kilogram piece of meat is equal to 21 grams of protein

• 330 grams Kellogg’s Special K with milk is equal to 11 grams of protein

3. Carb up Carbohydrates are the fuel for your muscles. Ideally, you should fuel your body about 1 to 3 hours preworkout. Suggestions for pre-workout fuel: • A peanut butter and banana sandwich • Greek yogurt with berries • Kellogg’s All Bran Flakes with low-fat milk and fruit

4. Refuel Refuel your body within 15 to 20 minutes post-training to aid muscle repair and recovery, followed by a regular mixed meal 3 to 4 hours later. Suggestions for post-workout fuel: • Fruit smoothie • Turkey wrap with veggies • Special K Cereal bar

5. Go outside 85 percent of UAE residents suffer from vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is well known for its role in bone health which is extremely vital for athletes, so go out in the sun or make sure to include vitamin D in your diet.

Violent Images are Doing More Harm to Our Children Than you Know From seemingly innocent cartoons to supposed children’s movies, the images of violence can actually have long-term effects on our children. HEALTH investigates.

The Age

According to Psychologist Devika Singh-Mankani, children begin to absorb images of violence from the time they are toddlers, under three years old. Also, children under the age of approximately six years cannot distinguish between fantasy and reality and are vulnerable to any images presented to them, whether

in the form of cartoon characters or human images. She explains, “Sources of violence are no longer restricted to the conventional media such as movies and cartoons. Children are now exposed to video games and the news.” Even something as innocent as cartoons can be just as influential in a negative sense for a child as real life video images.

Red Flags The signs, tells Singh-Mankani, depend in part on how much the child relates a particular behavior to their own life. “For instance, a child who has been bullied, or been the victim of even a single instance of physical abuse from a parent or a peer, may react differently to images of violence when compared to a child who has not had the same kind of


negative experiences,” she explains. “Some children may become anxious or depressed and often report nightmares.” She adds that children generally model what they see, and if they are exposed to violence, they may interpret it as an acceptable behavior based on the premise that the adult world will present information that is true and accurate. H

What Parents Can Do • It is critical for parents to try and monitor their child’s viewing content. This can be done by making sure an adult is physically present when they are watching TV. • Establish parenting controls on the TV and internet. • Monitor the content in books and video games. • If children are exposed to images, it is important for them to know that they can discuss what they think and feel with a trusted adult.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), 10 in every 1000 live births suffer from genetic disorders. You might not be aware of it, but you could be a carrier of a disorder. In Arab countries where 40 to 50 percent of consanguinity first cousins marriages take place, the risk of

having a child affected with a genetic disorder is as high as 19.7 percent. Alpha Thalassemia affects 15.30 percent of the population in Arab regions. Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder that affects a human body’s ability to produce hemoglobin, a vital component of red blood cells that is responsible for carrying out oxygen to some of the most vital organs. It is due to this abnormal component of


prevailing in the Arab population which are not curable, but can only be prevented.

history of the genetic disorder and helps in identifying the anomalies in genes that could lead to dangerous disorders that could often result in harming the entire generation in the future. If both partners are carriers of the same genetic mutation, the chances of having an affected child are 25 percent. Apart from Alpha-Thalassemia, there are a few genetic disorders like Hemophilia, Glycine Encephalopathy, Polycystic Kidney Disease and more that are

Beyond the live cooking stations, there were other Far Eastern dishes on course; the black pepper beef was delicious and went very well with the steamed jasmine rice. There were a few Chinese dishes that included Sichuan style shrimp, Taiwanese three cups chicken, and Cantonese Tangculiji style sweet and sour fish. These were all authentic and went well with the Indonesian dishes that included Indonesian Urap Urap or mixed vegetables with coconut.

Carrying the Eastern theme through to the desserts section, there was a good selection of Thai fruits on offer; papaya, Dragon fruit, pineapple and more. There were also some sweet treats including chocolate brownies and rice pudding, but my favorite was the sticky toffee pudding.

Verdict: With efficient and friendly service and an authentic spread of Far Eastern food, be sure to visit Safi at The Ajman Saray Hotel for an evening under the stars. H

INSTRUCTIONS

Cook pasta according to package directions. Meanwhile, place a large skillet over medium to high heat. Add olive oil, onion, garlic and mushrooms. Cook about 10 minutes or until onion is soft.

Add broth, pumpkin, sage, salt and pepper. Reduce heat and simmer about 8 minutes. When pasta is finished cooking, drain and add it to the pumpkin mixture. Stir to combine ingredients and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and parsley. Serves 4

1/4 cup unsweetened apple juice 2 tablespoon lemon juice 1 tablespoon canola oil 2 1/4 teaspoon brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard 1/4 teaspoon apple pie spice 1 medium red apple, chopped 6 cups spring mix salad greens

INSTRUCTIONS

Mix the apple juice, lemon juice, oil, brown sugar, mustard and apple pie spice in a large salad bowl. Add the apple and toss to coat. Add the salad greens and toss to mix just before serving. Serves 6

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES UNIVERSITY (UAEU) PROFESSOR DEVELOPING 3D-PRINTED PROSTHETICS WHICH WILL ALLOW AMPUTEES TO MAKE THEIR OWN CUSTOMIZATIONS

In partnership with the University of Michigan, Dr. Fady Alnajjar, assistant professor in UAEU’s Department of Information Technology, is developing

prototypes of advanced prosthetics that could have a double edge over the models currently on the market – their lower cost, and their ability to allow amputees greater flexibility of movement and control. While existing prosthetics may not be a case of one-size-fits-all, their functionality and range is limited and does not necessarily take account of the individual characteristics of their wearer. As Dr. Alnajjar explains, the

project he has embarked on is now trying to extend the number of sensors from the human body that can be used to control a prosthetic arm. The ultimate aim is for a prosthetic customer to be able to provide their precise specifications to an engineer, and have an artificial body part that is tailored specifically for them. While there is little in the way of genuine compensation for the trauma of losing a limb, Dr Alnajjar says advances in 3D printing have already come a long way in both improving prosthetics and making them more affordable. In this way, he believes the “emotional transition” can be smoothed. “It’s also the case that prosthetic arms currently on the market are pre-designed and pre-colored,” he said, “so they are not actually

In the UAE, reported cases of multiple sclerosis has been on the rise. In Dubai, the prevalence of the disease is at 54.77/100,000 with an annual incidence rate of 6.8/100,000. Moreover, multiple sclerosis affects 64.44/100,000 of the Emirati population in Abu Dhabi, according to recent studies.

Dr. Suhail Al Rukn, Consultant Neurology at Rashid Hospital and President of Emirates Neurology Society said, “Multiple Sclerosis is a rising concern in the UAE and the region. It is a difficult condition to diagnose due to the complexity and variability of symptoms which may vary from one person to the other. It can be a challenging condition to live with, but new treatments have considerably improved the quality of life of people with the condition.”

‫عاشرًا‪ :‬يوصيك الكتّ اب باتباع‬ ‫طريقة جميلة؛ فينصحونك‬ ‫بالتدرب على أخذ‪َ ‬نفَ س عندما‬ ‫ينهي المتحدث كالمه‪ ،‬قبل أن‬ ‫تشرع أنت في كالمك‪ .‬بهذه‬ ‫الطريقة سوف تعطي المتحدث‬ ‫الفرصة الكاملة حتى ينتهي من‬ ‫حديثه‪ ،‬وستبتعد عن مقاطعته‪،‬‬ ‫وهذا يدل على احترامك إياه‪،‬‬ ‫‪. ‬وسيقربك إليه‬ ‫أن ُت َز ِّو َر اإلجابة عما قاله‪ .‬ركز‪ ‬على‬ ‫المتحدث نفسه‪ ،‬تمامًا كما ينصح‬ ‫مدربو لعبة كرة «التنس»‪( :‬ركز على‬ ‫الكرة)! في الواقع هذا سيضفي على‬ ‫مهارة االستماع عندك صفة العفوية‬ ‫‪. ‬المحببة‬ ‫ثامنًا‪ :‬استمع ضعف ما تتحدث به‪.‬‬ ‫تذكر المقولة القديمة‪« :‬إننا نمتلك‬ ‫لسانًا‪ ‬وأذنين!» لذا أعط الفرصة‬ ‫لمن يجالسك للحديث‪ .‬تذكر أن كل‬

‫جسدك‪ .‬حدد ما الذي كان المتحدث‬ ‫حقائق؟ أم‬ ‫يتحدث عنه؟ هل هو‬ ‫ُ‬ ‫ابذل‬ ‫انطباعات؟ أم مشاعر شخصية؟ ُ‬ ‫ظه ُرون‬ ‫اهتمامًا أكبر ألولئك الذين ُي ِ‬ ‫مشاع َرهم وأحاسيسهم في حديثهم‬ ‫‪.‬إليك‬ ‫ثالثًا‪ :‬ال تقاطع اآلخرين‪ ،‬أو تكمل‬ ‫كالمهم! إن الناس يشعرون بالضيق‬ ‫‪.‬ممن‪ ‬ال يستمع إلى حديثهم‬ ‫رابعًا‪ :‬تفاعل مع مشاعر المتحدث‬

‫قبل تطمينه بالحقائق؛ وهذا كثيرًا‬ ‫ما‪ ‬يحدث مع األباء الذين يتسرعون‬ ‫االستجابة لمخاوف ابنهم حين يقول‬ ‫مث ًال‪« :‬هناك شيء مخيف تحت السرير!»‪،‬‬ ‫حيث يقولون‪« :‬ال تخف!! ليس هناك‬ ‫ما يخيف‪ ،‬أنت في أمان!»‪ .‬بينما قليل‬ ‫منهم من يبدي تعاطفًا مع مشاعره‪:‬‬ ‫‪«!».‬ال بد أنك قضيت ليلة مرعبة‬ ‫خامسًا‪ :‬االستماع بصمت قد يكون هو‬ ‫كل ما يحتاجه المتحدث إليه‪ .‬أشعره‬

‫أنك تتفهم مشاعره‪ ،‬بلغة الجسم‪،‬‬ ‫وأنت صامت‪ ،‬مثل‪ :‬تعابير الوجه‪ ،‬واإليماء‬ ‫بالرأس‪ .‬ال تقل‪ :‬إنني أتفهم مشاعرك‪..‬‬ ‫قاوم رغبتك في المشاركة بالحديث‪،‬‬ ‫‪،‬والكالم لمجرد الكالم‬ ‫سادسًا‪ :‬ادعم استماعك بأصوات قليلة‪،‬‬ ‫مثل التأوه‪ ،‬أو تلك التي تدل على‪ ‬‬ ‫االستغراب‪ .‬هذا يضفي على استماعك‬ ‫‪.‬نكهةً خاصة‬ ‫سابعًا‪ :‬ركز على ما يقوله المتحدث‪ ،‬بدل‬

‫كل هذه عوامل تؤدي الى ضعف‬ ‫وتقلص العضالت و تيبس المفاصل‬ ‫وبالتالي الى آالم في الجسم‪ ‬حتى‬ ‫طلبة المدارس يعانون من آالم بالظهر‬ ‫والمفاصل مع انحناء وحدب واعوجاج‬ ‫بالظهر بسبب الحقيبة المدرسية‬ ‫المثقلة بالكتب والمستلزمات‬ ‫المدرسية والتي ينوء الكبار‪ ‬في‬

‫ال أظن أن ألم الظهر والمفاصل‬ ‫يستثنيان حدا كائنا من كان‬ ‫فهو يصيب السيدات والرجال‬ ‫واالطفال في مختلف مراحل‬ ‫العمر وقد يكون زائرا‪ ,‬خفيفا‪ ,‬أو‬ ‫ضيفا‪,‬ثقي ًال مقيمًا ونجد أن هناك‬ ‫عالقة بين ألم الظهر والمفاصل‬ ‫من جهة والعمل أو المهنة التي‬ ‫نقوم بها من جهة أخرى‪ .‬كما أنه‬ ‫يتناسب طردا‪ ,‬مع الحياة العصرية‬ ‫والتقدم الحضاري كما هو الحال‬ ‫في دولة اﻹمارات العربية المتحدة‬ ‫حيث تتوفر مختلف أسباب الراحة‬ ‫والرفاهية للعديد من الشرائح‬ ‫‪ .‬الكائنة‬ ‫الحركة‬

‫يجب عمل نظام في المدارس بحيث‬ ‫يكون هناك تخفيف على الطالب‬ ‫بوضع الكتب في الخزانات وعدم أخذها‬ ‫للمنزل كل يوم‬ ‫التركيز على تمارين تقوية عضالت‬

‫نحن اآلن لم نعد نستعمل أرجلنا‬ ‫كما كنا نفعل في الماضي سواء‬ ‫من خالل‪ :‬المشي الطويل ‪,‬‬ ‫صعود الساللم‪ ,‬اللحاق بالحافالت‬ ‫أوالنزول الى األسواق‪ .‬الكل في‬ ‫عجلة من أمره والطقس في أغلب‬ ‫األحيان ال يساعد بسبب شدة‬ ‫الحرارة والرطوبة كما أن أغلب‬ ‫أعمالنا ننجزها جالسين‪ .‬وجود‬ ‫خدم المنازل زاد األمر سوءًا علمًا‬ ‫أنني لست ضد استخدامهم‪,‬‬ ‫لكن يجب أن يكون ذلك‬ ‫للمساعدة في أمور المنزل وليس‬ ‫للقيام بكل شىء فيه ‪ .‬باﻹضافة‬ ‫إلى أن التغيير المفاجىء للحرارة‬ ‫على جسم االنسان باستخدام‬ ‫أجهزة التكييف له مضاره أيضًا‬ ‫يضاف إلى ذلك‪ :‬تناولنا ما لذَّ‬ ‫وطاب من نعم اهلل‪ ،‬زيادة الوزن‬ ‫والترهل‪ ,‬عدم ممارسة الرياضة‬ ‫اليومية‪ ,‬قلة الحركة ‪ .‬الجلوس‬ ‫أمام التلفاز أو الكمبيوتر لساعات‬ ‫طوال ناهيك عن العادات الخاطئة‬

‫أكثر المدارس ال تفكر في‬ ‫معالجة هذه المشكلة‬ ‫!حتى يومنا هذا‬ ‫الهيكل العظمي مصمم بطريقة‬ ‫ليخدم متطلبات الجسم من حركة‬ ‫وتحمل األوزان‪ .‬أي تغير سلبي يطرأ‬ ‫على جسم الطفل‪ ‬سيقلل من‬ ‫الوظيفة األساسية للهيكل ويجعله‬ ‫معرض إلنحرافات واآلالم مما يؤدي إلى‬ ‫دخول الشخص في‪ ‬دائرة ال نهائية‬ ‫من شكوى ألم الظهر والرقبة وقد‬ ‫يؤدي أيضًا إلى ضيق في التنفس‬ ‫بسبب تأثير اإلنحرافات على القفص‬ ‫الصدري‪ .‬إحدى هذه التغييرات السلبية‬ ‫هي الوزن الزائد للحقيبةالمدرسية‪،‬‬ ‫المعدل الطبيعي لوزن الحقيبة هو ‪%10‬‬ ‫من وزن الطالب في حين نرى الطالب‬ ‫يحملون حقائب يتجاوز وزنها ال‪ 7‬أو ‪8‬‬ ‫‪.‬كيلوجرامات‬

‫ظاهرة الجنف‪ ‬و هي عبارة عن انحناء‬ ‫في العمود الفقري ناجم عن وضعيات‬ ‫خاطئة و تسبب‬ ‫التواء في العمود الفقري إلى جهة‬ ‫واحدة من الجسم‬ ‫تساو مستوى الكتفين‬ ‫عدم‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫عدم تساوي مستوى الخصرين‪ ،‬واحد‬ ‫أعلى من اآلخر‬ ‫ألم في الرقبة والظهر‬

‫هل للحقيبة دور في ألم‬ ‫الظهر؟‬

‫الفقري‪ ،‬فتخيلي ابنك ذو العشر سنوات‬ ‫يعاني من ألم في الظهر؟ حاله كحال‬ ‫كبار السن ‪. .‬الموضوع غير مخيف ولكن‬ ‫اهماله وعدم أخذ االحتياطات سيجعله‬ ‫‪.‬خطير‬

‫الحقيبة الجرارة‬ ‫تعتبر الحقيبة الجرارة بديال جيدا لحقيبة‬ ‫الظهر الثقيلة بشرط أن يتم تنبيه‬ ‫الطالب على عدم استخدام الجزء‬ ‫الحديدي منها كوسيلة لضرب الطالب‬ ‫حيث تم منع استخدامها في بعض‬ ‫‪.‬المدارس بسبب الشغب بين الطالب‬

‫بالتأكيد‪ ،‬حيث أثبتت بعض الدراسات‬ ‫التي أجريت على أطفال مرحلة ابتدائية‬ ‫يحملون حقائب مدرسية يتراوح وزنها‬ ‫مابين ‪ %22 – %10‬من وزن الجسم‪،‬‬ ‫شكوى الطالب من ألم في الظهر‬ ‫بسبب الضغط على فقرات العمود‬

‫تحدب الظهر واألكتاف‪ ‬لمعادلة وزن‬ ‫الحقيبة الثقيل ليتحقق التوازن‪ .‬و هذا‬ ‫معناه أن الطالب سيخرج عن حدود‬ ‫‪.‬التوازن الطبيعية‬

‫خلل في التوازن مابين‬ ‫العضالت األمامية‬ ‫والخلفية‪ ،‬بحيث تصبح‬ ‫واحدة قوية و األخرى‬ ‫ضعيفة مما يؤدي إلى‬ ‫انحرافات في وضعية‬ ‫‪:‬الجسم الطبيعية مثل‬ ‫تحدب الكتفين‬ ‫تقدم الرقبة‬ ‫تحدب الظهر‬ ‫ضيق القفص الصدري ويؤدي إلى ضيق‬ ‫في‪ ‬التنفس‬

‫لماذا يشكو االطفال‬ ‫احيانا من االم الظهر‬ ‫والمفاصل‬ ‫حقيبة المدرسة رفيق أساسي لكل طالب من المرحلة اإلبتدائية و حتى المرحلة‬ ‫الثانوية‪ .‬كل ما تقدم الطالب مرحلة كل مازاد الثقل في هذه الحقيبة‪ ،‬من كتب‬ ‫ودفاتر وأقالم وغيره‪ .‬حتى أصبحت هذه الحقيبة واقع يعاني منه الطالب أكثر من‬ ‫الحمل‪ .‬لذلك بدأت “بعض” المدارس بإنشاء‬ ‫كونها تساعده على التخفيف من ِ‬ ‫خزانات مدرسية تسمح للطالب بوضع ما اليحتاجه من كتب في المنزل داخلها‬ ‫‪.‬للتخفيف من الوزن‬

‫يتسبب في زيادة حاالت النزيف بعد‬

‫و تجنب المواد السكرية ‪ .‬أما‬ ‫بالنسبة للرياضة فتحتاج السيدة‬ ‫إلى بذل مجهود بدني مثل‬

‫و لكن بما أننا بصدد الحديث عن‬

‫السمنة و آثارها ‪،‬هل لك أن توضح‬

‫و لكن هناك أدوية‬ ‫يمكن أن تنقص الوزن‬ ‫دون هذا العناء فلماذا‬ ‫ال تلجأ السيدة التي‬ ‫تعيقها السمنة من‬ ‫الحمل لهذه األدوية ؟‬ ‫بالحقيقة أنا‪ ‬ال أنصح‬ ‫بإستعمال األدوية كحل‬ ‫سهل إلنقاص الوزن دون‬ ‫المحاولة الجادة و بذل‬ ‫الجهد ألنه بتوقف األدوية‬ ‫تعود األمور لما كانت عليه‬ ‫‪ ،‬أما بالنسبة للعمليات‬ ‫الممكن إجراؤها فهي‬ ‫كثيرة و متعددة و ال‬ ‫تناسب الغالبية العظمى‬ ‫من األفراد الذين يعانون‬ ‫من السمنة و يبقى الحاجة‬ ‫إلى األدوية أو الجراحة في‬ ‫الحاالت الخاصة ‪.‬‬

‫طولك بالسنتيمتر‪ ،‬ثم اقسمي مرة‬ ‫ثانية طولك بالسنتيمتر‪ ،‬ثم اضربيه‬ ‫بالرقم ‪ ٣٠٧٠‬‬ ‫يعتبر األطباء أن مؤشر كتلة‬ ‫الجسم ما بين ‪ 30 - 20‬هو األفضل‬ ‫للنجاح في الحمل‪ .‬تحدثي مع‬ ‫طبيبك العام حول أفضل الطرق‬ ‫للوصول إلى وزنك المثالي‪ .‬‬ ‫هل يعني أن السمنة تمنع الحمل ؟‬ ‫السمنة ال تمنع الحمل ‪ ،‬و إنما أثبتت‬ ‫الدراسات العلمية أن السيدة التي‬ ‫الزائد والنساء من ذوات السمنة‬

‫أو غيابها‪ ،‬وزيادة في نمو الشعر‬

‫تعاني من زيادة في الوزن تحتاج‬

‫المفرطة أن تخفيف الوزن بنسبة‬

‫والبثور (حبوب الوجه)‪ .‬زوري الطبيب‬

‫إلى وقت أكثر حتى يحدث الحمل‬

‫أصبحت زيادة الوزن‬ ‫المفرطة ظاهرة شائعة‬ ‫في مجتمعات العالم‪.‬‬ ‫و تعرف زيادة الوزن‬ ‫بحسب مؤشر كتلة‬ ‫الجسم‪ ‬و تحسب‬ ‫بتقسيم الوزن‬ ‫بالكيلوغرامات على‬ ‫مربع الطول باألمتار ‪.‬‬ ‫يكون الوزن طبيعي‬ ‫إذا كان مؤشر كتلة‬ ‫الجسم أقل من‬ ‫‪ ٢٥ - ٢٠‬كغم‪/‬م أما‬ ‫إذا زاد مؤشر كتلة‬ ‫الجسم عن ‪٣٠ - 2٠‬‬ ‫كغم‪/‬م فيعتبر في‬ ‫منطقة السمنة و إذا‬ ‫زاد المؤشر عن ‪40- 2٠‬‬ ‫كغم‪/‬م تكون سمنة‬ ‫مفرطة ‪ .‬لتوضيح هذه‬

‫األرقام إذا أخذنا كمثال‬ ‫سيدة طولها ‪ ١6٠‬سم‬ ‫يكون الوزن المثالي لها‬ ‫ال يتجاوز ‪ 65‬كغم و إذا‬ ‫زاد وزنها عن ‪ 80‬كغم‬ ‫تعتبر سمينة أما إذا زاد‬ ‫وزنها عن ‪ 100‬كغم فهي‬ ‫تعاني من سمنة مفرطة‬ ‫وبحسب ما وضحته اميلي شاين‬ ‫مؤسسة «اعرف كيف» و هي شركة‬ ‫تهتم بالصحة والجمال في دبي‬ ‫قد يكون لهذا األمر تأثير‪ .‬إذا كان‬ ‫هذا حملك األول‪ ،‬فإن فرص حدوث‬ ‫اإلخصاب في كل دورة تنخفض‬ ‫بنسبة ‪ %8‬لو كنت من ذوات‬ ‫الوزن الزائد‪ ،‬و‪ %18‬لو كنت تعانين‬ ‫من السمنة المفرطة‪ .‬أما إذا لم‬ ‫يكن هذا حملك األول‪ ،‬فسترتفع‬ ‫هذه النسب إلى ‪ %16‬لو كنت من‬

‫أو مكاتب الرعاية الصحية‪ ،‬فمن‬ ‫الطبيعي أن تحتاج كل أم‬ ‫للمساعدة مهما كانت خبرتها‬ ‫كبيرة‪.‬‬ ‫‪ ‬قبل أن تتم عملية ادرار اللبن‬ ‫بشكل كامل‪ ،‬قد يبدأ طفلك في‬ ‫الرضاعة كل ساعة في اليومين‬ ‫األول والثاني من عمره‪ ،‬وذلك‬ ‫يساعد جسمك على إدرار اللبن‬ ‫بالكمية المناسبة التي تتالءم‬ ‫تماما مع احتياجات طفلك‪ .‬وفي‬ ‫ً‬ ‫الفترة من يومين إلى ‪ 4‬أيام يقوم‬ ‫جسمك بضبط نفسه على هذا‬ ‫المعدل من إدرار اللبن وبالتالي‬ ‫سوف يحتاج طفلك إلى عدد أقل‬

‫طبيعية وال تعني أن‬ ‫الطفل مستاء منك أو من‬ ‫لبنك أو من رعايتك‪ ،‬فإن‬ ‫بكاء‬ ‫الطفل أو انزعاجه يعني‬

‫أنه يعرف ماذا يحتاج‬ ‫وكيف يرسل إشارات لمن‬ ‫يستطيع أن يقدم له ما‬ ‫‪ ‬يحتاجه‪ .‬وعاد ًة تستمر‬ ‫عملية الرضاعة في هذه‬ ‫السن لمدة تتراوح من‬ ‫‪01‬إلى ‪ 51‬دقيقة من كل‬ ‫ثدي‪ ،‬وال بأس أن تزيد‬ ‫عن هذه المدة‬ ‫مادام طفلك قد‬ ‫تعلم الطريقة‬ ‫السليمة‬ ‫للرضاعة‬

‫من الرضعات تصل إلى مرة كل‬ ‫ساعتين أو ‪ 3‬ساعات‪ ،‬أو من ‪ 8‬إلى‬ ‫‪ 21‬رضعة على مدار اليوم‪.‬‬

‫يزيد من وقاية اإلنسان بشكل عام‬

‫لبن كل أم بتركيبة فريدة تالءم‬

‫لبن‬ ‫األم هو‬ ‫األفضل‬

‫تأتى الرضاعة‬ ‫الطبيعية – فقط دون‬ ‫أى شىء آخر – كالخيار‬ ‫األمثل ألول ستة أشهر‬ ‫فى حياة الرضيع‪ .‬فلبن‬ ‫األم‪:‬‬ ‫يحتوى على األجسام المضادة‬ ‫الطبيعية التى تحمي الرضيع من‬ ‫العدوى‪ ،‬مثل إلتهاب األذن‪.‬‬ ‫يسهل على أمعاء الرضيع‬ ‫هضمه‪ ،‬مما يجعل الرضيع أقل‬ ‫عرضى لعسر الهضم‪ ،‬واإلمساك‪،‬‬ ‫والغازات‪.‬‬


‫تشخيص هذه الحاالت يعتمد‬ ‫علي التاريخ العائلي إلصابات‬ ‫مشابهة وكذلك علي ظهور‬ ‫أعراض نقص أو زيادة في إفراز‬ ‫هذه الغدة في السيدة حديثة‬ ‫الوالدة ويتم تقصي حقيقة‬ ‫هذه العالمات واألعراض بقياس‬ ‫مستوي هرمونات هذه الغدة‬ ‫في الدم وكذلك نسبة األجسام‬ ‫المضادة للغدة والعالج في هذه‬

‫أعراض فرط التدرق في‬ ‫حاالت التهاب الغدة‬ ‫الدرقية بعد الوالدة‬ ‫يعاني من ‪ ٢٠‬إلى ‪ %٣٠‬من النساء‬ ‫المصابات بمرض ‪ TPP‬من أعراض‬ ‫فرط التدرق التي تشمل اإلجهاد و‬ ‫احتمال الجو الحار و العصبية و القلق‬ ‫و التهيج‪.‬‬

‫الحاالت بسيط عن طريق األدوية‬ ‫إال أنه قد يستمر من سنة وحتي‬

‫خالل فترة الستة أشهر األولى بعد‬

‫سنتين حتي تستقر وظيفة هذه‬

‫الوالدة (وهو أكثر شيوعا خالل الشهور‬

‫الغدة‏‪.‬‬

‫الثالثة األولى) ويستمر بين شهر إلى‬

‫لهن التشخيص بخلل الغدة‬ ‫الدرقية أن يكتسبن هذا الخلل‬ ‫اثناء العام األول بعد الوالدة‬

‫(‪.)TPP‬‬

‫الحاالت‪.‬‬

‫هناك العديد من األعراض لقصور‬

‫ األمهات حديثات العهد الالتي‬

‫وزيادة نشاط الغدة الدرقية يجب‬

‫تظهر عليهن أعراض القصور‬

‫على األمهات حديثات العهد‬

‫الدرقي المصاحبة للمرض‬

‫باألمومة البحث عنها‬

‫ولكنهن ال يعانين منه‬

‫التي تشمل التعب واإلجهاد و‬ ‫فقدان التركيز و ضعف الذاكرة‬ ‫و اإلمساك و احتمال اإلصابة‬ ‫باالكتئاب‪.‬‬

‫متابعة السيدات‬ ‫المصابات بالتهاب‬ ‫الغدة الدرقية بعد‬ ‫الوالدة‬ ‫بالرغم من أن تشخيص خلل‬ ‫الغدة الدرقية قد يكون مخيفا‬

‫كيف يعالج التهاب‬ ‫الغدة الدرقية بعد‬ ‫الوالدة؟‬

‫الدرقية بعد الوالدة أو اختصارا‬

‫من أعراض القصور الدرقي‬

‫الطبيب للعالج‪.‬‬

‫الوالدة اليعتبر حالة طويلة األمد‪،‬‬

‫حالة عابرة فالعالج ليس ضروريا لجميع‬

‫أعراض القصور‬ ‫الدرقي في حاالت‬ ‫التهاب الغدة‬ ‫الدرقية بعد الوالدة‬

‫ أما األمهات حديثات العهد الالتي‬

‫خفقان القلب و نقص الوزن و عدم‬

‫يحدث فرط التدرق في ‪ TPP‬غالبا‬

‫ويمكن لألمهات الالتي لم يسبق‬

‫بالليفوثيروكسين‪.‬‬

‫حيث تعود الغدة الدرقية إلى‬ ‫وظيفتها الطبيعية بنهاية العام‬ ‫األول بعد الوالدة‪ .‬إذا إختبرت‬ ‫إستمرار أحد األعراض المبينة‬ ‫أعاله‪ ،‬من فضلك استشيري‬ ‫طبيبك‪.‬‬

‫وال يخططن لحمل أخر ال‬ ‫يحتجن بالضرورة للعالج‪.‬‬ ‫ إال أنه ينصح بمتابعتهن‬ ‫بالرصد والفحص لمدة ‪8-4‬‬ ‫أسابيع بعد التشخيص‪.‬‬ ‫ أما النساء الالتي يجدن‬ ‫التعايش مع أعراضهن‬ ‫أمرا عسيرا أو الالتي‬ ‫يرغبن في التخطيط‬ ‫لحمل أخر فيجب‬ ‫عندئذ عالجهن‬

‫إضطراب الغدة‬ ‫الدرقية بعد الوالدة‬ ‫يعد الحمل تحديا حقيقيا‬ ‫للجهاز المناعي للجسم‬ ‫حيث تكبت خصائص‬ ‫كثيرة في هذا الجهاز‬ ‫أثناء الحمل وذلك للحفاظ‬ ‫علي الجنين الذي يعتبر‬ ‫جسما غريبا أو نصف‬ ‫غريب‏‪..‬‏ حيث إن نصف‬ ‫الموروثات بالجنين التي‬ ‫تأتي من األب تعتبر غريبة‬ ‫بجسم األم‏‪..‬‏ لذلك فكثير‬ ‫من أمراض المناعة الذاتية‬ ‫تقل أعراضها أو عالماتها‬ ‫في األم الحامل أثناء‬ ‫فترة الحمل‏‪..‬‏ وتظهر بعد‬ ‫الوالدة‏‪..‬‬ ‫هذا ماذكرته الدكتورة اليانا‬ ‫ديمتريفا اخصائية امراض النساء‬ ‫والتوليد موضحة أن رد الفعل‬ ‫يأتي بعد الوالدة فتزداد األعراض‬ ‫والعالمات المرضية في هذه الفترة‬ ‫لذلك تعتبر فترة مابعد الوالدة التي‬ ‫تمتد إلي سنة كاملة فترة نشاط‬ ‫ملحوظ للجهاز المناعي لألم مما‬ ‫قد يؤدي إلي ظهور أجسام مناعية‬ ‫ذاتية جديدة إذا كانت الحامل لديها‬ ‫االستعداد الوراثي لذلك ومن هذه‬ ‫األجسام ما يصيب الغدة الدرقية‬ ‫التي تنظم التمثيل الغذائي وتولد‬ ‫م‪.‬‏‬ ‫الطاقة بالجس ‏‬

‫التهاب الغدة الدرقية يحدث في أي‬

‫في الغدة الدرقية بعد الوالدة وذلك‬

‫وقت بعد الوالدة ابتداء من اإلسبوع‬

‫لتكون أجسام مضادة لتلك الغدة‏‪..‬‏‬

‫الثامن وحتي مضي سنة كاملة‏‪.‬‏‬

‫بداية يطيب لي قبل أن أبدء إفتتاحيتي لهذا العدد أن‬ ‫اتوجه بالتحية للسادة القراء وكل المهتمين بمجلة‬ ‫الصحة ‪.‬‬ ‫كما أود أن أستهل إفتتاحية العدد بإعالن أن العام ‪2017‬‬ ‫قد أهل علينا وهو يحمل عالمة هامة لبداية مرحلة‬ ‫جديده في تاريخ الجامعة فقد تم تشكيل مجلس‬ ‫جديد للمحافظين برئاستي والمجلس الجديد في‬ ‫صورته النهائية يتكون أعضائه من السادة ‪:‬‬ ‫السيد ثومبي محي الدين رئيس مجلس االمناء ‪،‬‬ ‫بروفيسور ‘ حسام حمدي ‘ مدير الجامعة ‪ ،‬بروفيسور‬ ‫‘ جيتا أشوك راج نأئب مدير الجامعة ‪ ،‬بروفيسور ‘ جون‬ ‫ريشارد رايموند ‪ ،‬الرئيس والرئيس التنفيذي لجامعة‬ ‫ويسكونسن الطبية بالواليات المتحده االمريكية‬ ‫‪ ،‬دكتور ‘الدكتور لورنزو‪ .‬ليوني ‪ ،‬مدير المحفظة‬ ‫االستثمارية في قطاع التكنولوجيا بسويسرا‪ ،‬دكتور‬ ‫‘ محمد أمين العوضي وكيل وزارة الصحة المساعد‬ ‫للتدريب والتخطيط بمملكة البحرين ‪ ،‬بروفيسور ‘‬ ‫ناديه بدراوي نائبة رئيس ومؤسسة الهيئة الدولية‬ ‫لجودة التعليم العالي القاهرة – مصر‪ ،‬دكتور‘ طيب‬ ‫كمالي ‪ ،‬المدير العام للتدريب والتعليم بوزارة الداخلية‬ ‫أبوظبي االمارات العربية المتحدة ‪ ،‬بروفيسور ‘ سالم‬ ‫شعيب ‪ ،‬مدير مركز ابحاث السرطان في معهد‬ ‫جوستاف روسي بفرنسا‪ ،‬السيد فيروز االنا ‘ مدير‬ ‫مجموعة شركة إيفكو الشركات‪ ،‬الشارقة‪ ،‬اإلمارات‬ ‫العربية المتحدة‬ ‫السيد حميد تايلور ‪ -‬مدير عام بيت التمويل‪ ،‬أبو ظبي‪،‬‬ ‫اإلمارات العربية المتحدة ‪ ،‬السيد ‘ أكبر محي الدين‬ ‫ثومبي ‪ ،‬نأئب رئيس قطاع الرعاية الصحية بمجموعة‬ ‫ثومبي عجمان ‪ ،‬االمارات العربية المتحده‪.‬‬ ‫ونحن يسعدنا في هذا العدد ان نعلن عن سعدتنا‬ ‫وترحيبنا بإنضمام خبير التعليم الطبي وجراح االطفال‬ ‫الشهير البروفيسور حسام حمدي إلى أسرة الجامعة‬ ‫متقلدًا منصب رئيس الجامعة مصطحبأ معه اكثر‬ ‫من اربعين عاما من الخبرة الثرية ستعمل على أن تبلغ‬ ‫الجامعة مستوي جديد من المعايير العالمية‪ .‬ونحن‬ ‫علي يقين من ان االستراتيجيات والخطط التنفيذية‬ ‫التي اعدها الرئيس الجديد للجامعة سترتقي‬ ‫بمستويات ونوعية التعليم والتدريب والتي تقدمها‬ ‫مختلف كليات الجامعة‪.‬‬ ‫ويسعدني بهذه المناسبة كرئيس لمجلس أمناء‬ ‫الجامعة ان أعلن ان المجلس قد أتخذ قراره في‬ ‫إجتماعه الدولي الموسع بتحويل جامعة الخليج‬ ‫الطبية إلى أول نظام متكامل في التعليم الطبي‬ ‫والخدمات الصحية والبحث العلمي من خالل‬ ‫منظومة جديده تطرح آلول مرة من قبل جامعة‬ ‫خاصة في منطقة الخليج ‪،‬‬ ‫كما قام أعضاء المجلس في إجتماعهم بمناقشة‬ ‫كافة االمور التي تتعلق بشئون جامعة الخليج الطبية‬ ‫حيث تمت مناقشة مالمح الخطة االستراتيجية‬ ‫‪ 2022-2017‬والتوجهات الخاصة بإنشاء معاهد بحثية‬ ‫جديده و عيادات مختلفة وصيدليات وأيضًا مختبرات‬ ‫تشخيصية تضاف إلى شبكة االنجازات ‪ ،‬فكما تعرفون‬

‫فإن إنجازاتنا الفعلية التي حققتها المجموعة على‬ ‫أرض الواقع تمثلت في العديد من المشروعات مختلفة‬ ‫فباالضافة إلى شبكة مستشفياتنا االكاديمية الممتدة في‬ ‫كافة انحاء دولة االمارات العربية المتحده فإننا ايضًا وبلغة‬ ‫االرقام ‪ ،‬نمتلك عدد ‪ 52‬مختبرًا يحملون شعار مختبرات‬ ‫ثومبي التشخيصية وعدد ‪ 100‬صيدلية تحمل شعار صيدليات‬ ‫ثومبي وكل هذه االرقام في طريقها للزيادة في السنوات‬ ‫القليلة القادمة كما أنه من المخطط أيضًا أن يتم االنتهاء‬ ‫من إنشائات مستشفى ثومبي االكاديمي التابعة للجامعة‬ ‫والذي سيعمل بطاقة ‪ 350‬سرير بنهاية العام الجاري ‪2017‬‬ ‫وأيضًا مستشفى االسنان بطاقة ‪ 60‬وحدة عالج لألسنان‬ ‫باالضافة إلى مركز التأهيل وهذه االنشائات الثالثة الحديثة‬ ‫يجرى إقامتها جميعًا داخل حرم الجامعة ‪ ،‬فطبقًا‬ ‫المخطط االستراتيجي فإن المستهدف أن يصل عدد‬ ‫مستشفيات ثومبي االكاديميه التابعة لجامعة الخليج‬ ‫الطبية إلى ‪ 15‬مستشفى أكاديمي في مناطق متعدده‬ ‫من العالم وأن هذه الشبكة من المستشفيات تصبح‬ ‫طاقتها االستيعابية ‪ 1000‬سرير داخل دولة االمارات العربية‬ ‫المتحده باالضافة إلى ‪ 1500‬سرير بالهند و ‪ 750‬سرير في‬ ‫منطقة الخليج والشرق االوسط وأفريقيا بحلول العالم‬ ‫‪ 2022‬كما تطرق إجتماع مجلس االمناء أيضًا إلى مخطط‬ ‫مجموعة ثومبي بخصوص إنشاء ‪ 3‬جامعات في في ثالث‬ ‫دول أخرى مختلفه بحلول العام ‪. 2022‬‬ ‫كما أن بداية العام ‪ 2017‬وتحديدًا في ال ‪ 16‬من يناير قد‬ ‫قامت مجلة الصحة التي تصدرها الجامعة وبالتعاون‬ ‫مع دائرة التطوير االقتصادي بدبي ‪ ،‬بتوزيع جوائز مسابقة‬ ‫الصحة السنوية في دورتها االولى في إحتفالية كبيرة‬ ‫تمت إقامتها في قاعة جودلفين بأبراج االمارات بالجميرة‬ ‫وقد بلغ حضورمناسبة هذا الحدث الذي يعد االول من‬ ‫نوعه أكثر من ‪ 006‬مدعوا من العاملين بالمجال الصحي‬ ‫بقطاعيه العام والخاص لدولة االمارات العربية المتحدة ‪،‬‬ ‫حيث كان على رأس الحضور ضيف شرف الحفل الرئيسي‬ ‫معالي حميد عبيد القطامي ‘ رئيس مجلس ادارة دبي‬ ‫الصحية‪ ،‬و‪ 8‬من الشخصيات الشرفية والتي اسهمت في‬ ‫تشكيل مجال الرعاية الصحية بالدولة ‪ ،‬كما شرف الحفل‬ ‫بوجود المطربة ديانا حداد والممثلون الهنود كريسما‬ ‫كابور و جيارام و رانا داجوباتي وتفضل معالي حميد عبيد‬ ‫القطامي ‪ ،‬بمنح جوائز الحفل لعدد ‪ 34‬فرد هم الفائزين‬ ‫بجوائز الصحة السنوية لهذا العام في دورتها االولى‬ ‫بمختلف مستوياتها ‪،‬‬ ‫وخالل االسابيع الماضية قامت الجامعة بإستضافت‬ ‫العديد من السادة الضيوف والوفود المختلفة من أنحاء‬ ‫متعددة من العالم ‪ ،‬فقد شرفنا بإستضافة السيد غالم‬ ‫هارت مستشار الصحة بالشرق االوسط وممثل الخارجية‬ ‫الفرنسية والذي ابدي اعجابه الشديد بالبرنامج المتكامل‬ ‫والشامل االكاديمي لمؤسساتنا ‪ .‬كما شرفنا بزيارة وفد‬ ‫رفيع المستوى من دولة فنلندا برئاسة بركو ماتيال وزير‬ ‫الشئون االجتماعية والصحة بفنلندا بصحبة مجموعة من‬ ‫الشخصيات الهامة الممثلة لقطاعات الصحة والتعليم‬ ‫واإلستثمار بدولة فنلندا‪ .‬وقد تم خالل الزيارة إجراء مباحثات‬ ‫مثمرة بين الجانبين نوقش من خاللها سبل التعاون بين‬ ‫الجانب الفنلندي والجامعة في مختلف مجاالت تطوير‬ ‫التعليم األكاديمي الصحي والتدريب والرعاية الصحية‬ ‫‪ .‬كما شرفنا أيضًا بإستقبال وفد رفيع المستوي من‬

‫المجلس الهندي لطب االسنان يرأسة رئيس المجلس‬ ‫الدكتور ‘ مازومدير ديبيندو وقد قمنا بمناقشة سبل‬ ‫التعاون المستقبلية المشتركة بين الجانبين حيث‬ ‫حرص الوفد الهندي على أن يكون هناك تعاون فعلي‬ ‫على أرض الواقع بين المجلس الهندي لطب االسنان‬ ‫وجامعة الخليج الطبية ‪.‬‬ ‫ويسعدني أيضًا ان اعلن عن إنضمام السيد اكبر محي‬ ‫الدين نائب رئيس قسم الرعاية الصحية وعضو مجلس‬ ‫االدارة بمجموعة ثومبي ‪ ،‬الي قائمة الشرف لخريجي‬ ‫الجامعة االمريكية بالشارقة تقديرًا النجازته المهنية‬ ‫وذلك في إحتفالية اقيمت بالجامعة االمريكية‬ ‫بالشارقة حضرها ‪ 2000‬من المدعويين من خريجي‬ ‫الجامعة من مختلف أنحاء العالم وكان على رأسهم‬ ‫صاحب السمو الشيخ الدكتور سلطان بن محمد‬ ‫القاسمي عضو المجلس االعلي حاكم الشارقة‬ ‫ورئيس الجامعة االمريكية‪ .‬‬ ‫كما ال يفوتني أن أعلن أيضًا أن الكلية االمريكية‬ ‫لتنفيذي الرعاية الصحية باالشتراك مع مستشفيات‬ ‫ثومبي قاموا بتنظيم ندوة بعنوان « قيادة وادارة‬ ‫التغيير» وقد ادار الندوة السيد توم اتيكسون وحضرها‬ ‫‪ 04‬من تنفيذي الرعاية الصحية بالمنطقة ‪ .‬ويسعدنا‬ ‫ان نعلن ان خدمات عافية قد حازت علي جائزة افضل‬ ‫شركة تأمين صحي ‪ 6102‬من مجلة التمويل الدولي‪.‬‬ ‫وقد حصلت عيادة ثومبي بام القوين علي جائزة‬ ‫افضل منشأة صحية خاصة من وزارة الصحة منطقة‬ ‫ام القوين‪ .‬وقد اختيرت العيادة لهذه الجائزة بعد‬ ‫تقييم مفصل لكافة المعايير الصحية مثل رعاية‬ ‫المرضي والتجهيزات ونوعية التكنولوجيا المستخدة‪.‬‬ ‫وفي نهاية كلمتي وحتى ألقاكم مرة أخرى في‬ ‫العدد القادم فإنني أتمنى لكم تحقيق افضل ما‬ ‫تسعون اليه‪ .‬كما اود ان استمع إلى وأقرء منكم ومن‬ ‫خالل المجلة عن ردود أفعالكم عن مستوى الخدمات‬ ‫وبرامج التعليم وأفكاركم التي ترغبون في طرحها‬ ‫علينا من أجل زيادة معايير االمتياز في عملنا ‪ .‬والسالم‬ ‫عليكم ورحمة اهلل وبركاته ‪.‬‬
