It’s a beautiful time of year in Healdsburg as we all enjoy a nice bike ride, a trip on the Russian River, or an ice-cold Wicked Slush dessert. The Chamber is hard at work bringing back valuable resources for your business as well as opportunities to network and get involved. Summer is an exciting time and business in Healdsburg is buzzing. Hotels are full as our town offers summer concerts, wine events and many other exclusive activities. Business is facing a return to recovery after a few years of the pandem ic. We see nothing but sunshine in the forecast; our favorite Chamber of Commerce kind of day!
This summer, our Annual BBQ will be back with an elevated experience at Rodney Strong Vineyards. On August 24, we will celebrate with a silent auction, a concert from The Highway Poets, and of course, rosé! Stay tuned for ticket sales and sponsorship opportunities.
We continue to advocate for business legislation that will cut through the red tape and support business friendly initiatives.

Saturday markets are chock full of traditional grow ers—farmers ranging from all over Sonoma County and beyond. There are a host of food purveyors as well, both those who prepare fresh food right in front of shoppers’ eyes and those who sell pre-pack aged and pre-prepared items ranging from sausage to bao buns. Every Saturday there are some makers, as well, peddling jewelry, ceramics, and more.

“We’re able to have more community interactions at the market now that Covid is dancing in the back ground,” noted Ciel, who has run the market since 2016. “There’s tremendous support in this commu nity—not just for agriculture but for arts and food and culture—and it’s great to be able to bring people together in all sorts of different ways every week at the market.”
The Tuesday market also brings out several local restaurants with outdoor kitchens.
The Tuesday markets usually comprise a similar mix, only smaller numbers. Tuesdays the market also dovetails with summer concerts under the gazebo; the market wraps by noon but many locals are out and about in the plaza by then, saving seats for the evening festivities.

Tuesday markets, held around the Healdsburg Plaza, are jamming as well, and about a third of the 30 or so vendors don’t appear on Saturdays.
“Each market is its own story,” said Market Manager Janet Ciel. “Each has a distinct personality.”
Ciel said the Saturday market was gearing up to resume some of its pre-Covid programming. On the list: cooking demonstrations, non-profit information sessions, and more.
The Healdsburg Farmers’ Market turns 44 in 2022, and it is one of the oldest markets in the state of California. It also is bigger and better than ever be fore—nearly 50 vendors at the Saturday event, which is a new record for the market held in the parking lot behind Hotel Healdsburg.

In short, there are dozens of options for getting out and about in our part of northern Sonoma County.

“Many people also enjoy getting to see some of the charming residential streets that make up Healdsburg on the ride,” Pilling said. She added that guests who book out the whole bike can decorate it with streamers, bal loons, even mannequins of naked people.

In contrast, Russian River Adventures has been offering tours in Healdsburg since 2001.

The company is perhaps best known for its SOAR inflatable canoes and kayaks that people use to float the Russian River from Healdsburg all the way to Forestville (included with every float is a pick-up down at Wohler Bridge). The journey covers a four-mile stretch of river and takes anywhere from 1.5 to 4 hours, depending on how motivated guests are to finish.
On a hot day, there’s nothing better than floating the river and jumping in for the occasional dip when things get too warm.

While most of these unforgettable adventures revolve around water sports on Russian River and Lake Sonoma, some of them also are connected close ly with local roadways and the regional bicycling and running communities.
One of the newest options: Bike Healdsburg, a cross-between a bicycle and a bar with seats—and pedals—for up to 13 of your closest friends.
because the bike ventures outside of downtown, making three different stops at some of the lesser-known Healdsburg wineries that are family owned and operated. The Bar crawl is shorter but also fun because the group visits a variety of places ranging from our local dive bar to an upscale cocktail bar. Patrons are supposed to buy their own drinks at each stop.
This contraption enables small parties to pedal their way around downtown Healdsburg. Co-owner Jessica Pilling says patrons must pedal in unison to move around the city, and she noted that the bicycle is a slow but hilarious way of covering ground. She added that current city rules prohibit people from actually drinking on the thing, a reality one of us misses.

Healdsburg isn’t only a destination for delicious food and great wine—it’s one of the best places in Wine Country for outdoor diversions, too.
Owner Randy Johnson is celebrating 29 years of providing guests with “some serious fun” with his guided bike, kayak, and hiking tours. His busi ness prides itself on always including wellness as part of their programs.

“Active relaxation is a term we coined to exemplify what we like to do -- the gentle relaxing pace and the fresh air, sunshine and incredible views that satisfy the soul,” Johnson said.
Owner Larry Laba said his “game-changer” tour features electric bikes that guests can take out and whip around the back roads of the Russian River valley. As part of the ride, each guest wears a Bluetooth mesh-connected helmet that enables them to talk to other guests during the ride.

As Laba likes to joke, those guests who have energy afterward can enjoy a night on the town in Healdsburg, “We love getting people out there to move their bodies,” he said.
Finally, the local running store, Healdsburg Running Company, organizes weeknight runs for women, kids, and everyone. Most of these runs start at the shop across the street from Cartograph Wines and Black Oak Coffee on Center Street. Some of them finish at local bars and pubs.
