Your Guide to Tuition Assistance

Making a Head-Royce Education Accessible Head-Royce School develops students of character, intellect, and creativity. We envision a future where education unlocks the promise and purpose of every student to better the world. We believe students thrive when they are seen, heard, valued, and affirmed and when they learn alongside peers with diverse perspectives, backgrounds, experiences, and identities. Our commitment to socioeconomic diversity reflects this belief and is rooted in our core values: putting students first, pursuing academic excellence, embracing diversity, creating belonging, and fostering civic engagement. Through our need-based tuition assistance program, Head-Royce broadens equitable access to the full student experience, including tutoring, after-school programs, study abroad opportunities, and other programs and opportunities. By making a Head-Royce education more accessible to families with demonstrated financial need, we create a stronger, more inclusive learning community where every student has the opportunity to thrive.

Tuition Assistance Case Studies Every family’s financial situation is unique. When reviewing a tuition assistance application, Head-Royce considers the family’s full financial picture including income, assets, liabilities, housing costs, family size, educational expenses, retirement contributions, outstanding debt, and other financial obligations. This individualized review helps us determine an appropriate family contribution toward tuition. T U I T I O N AS S I STA N C E

Frequently Asked Questions Will applying for tuition assistance affect my child’s admission decision? No. Admission and tuition assistance decisions are made separately. The Admissions Committee does not know whether a family has applied for tuition assistance. Only after a student has been offered admission does the Tuition Assistance Committee review the family’s financial needs and determine the tuition assistance award. Families receive their admission and tuition assistance decisions together.

What type of tuition assistance does Head-Royce offer? Head-Royce provides tuition assistance based solely on a family’s demonstrated financial need. The school does not offer merit scholarships for academics, athletics, the arts, or other areas of achievement. Tuition assistance is awarded as a grant and does not need to be repaid.

Who is eligible for tuition assistance? Any family with a student applying to kindergarten through 12th grade is welcome to apply for tuition assistance. Because each family’s financial circumstances are unique, there is no single income level that determines eligibility. If your family believes you may need help meeting the cost of a Head-Royce education, we encourage you to apply. The best way to find out if your family qualifies is to submit an application. Tuition assistance is reviewed each year, so families seeking continued support will need to reapply annually.

How is tuition assistance calculated? Head-Royce partners with Clarity to assess each family’s demonstrated financial need. The evaluation considers the family’s overall financial circumstances, not income alone, including assets, debts, housing costs, family size, educational expenses, and other financial obligations. This information helps determine an appropriate family contribution toward tuition. To provide a complete picture of the family’s finances, all parents and guardians, including noncustodial parents, must complete an application. All information is kept confidential. If parents or guardians live in separate households, information submitted by one household will not be shared with the other.

What information is required for my tuition assistance application? All families applying for tuition assistance must complete a Clarity application. In most cases, Clarity can retrieve federal tax information directly from the IRS, simplifying the application process for families. Depending on your family’s financial circumstances, you may receive additional requests for financial documentation from the Head-Royce Director of Tuition Assistance or from Clarity. Your application is considered complete once Clarity has received all information and documentation required to assess your family’s demonstrated financial need.
