Italian boys, Benny and Turner, learn to fish from their father but he falls ill before Christmas, so the boys go out to sea to bring fish home for the celebrations. A raging storm besieges them and a light from above appears to aid them in their quest. This beautiful story by award-winning author, Diana Pishner Walker, tells the story behind the traditional Italian Feast of the Seven Fishes celebrated on Christmas Eve by Italian families around the world. Included are a few traditional fish recipes for the celebration! “Young or old, every reader loves a good tale of two friends. A Fishy Tale is a wonderful story about two boys who show us that the best way to warm a cold Christmas Eve is through friendship, family, and…yes…fish!” —Miles Ryan Fisher, Editor-in-Chief, Italian America® magazine “The Christmas Feast: A Fishy Tale brings a feeling of Italian tradition to contemporary life while teaching young children about unconditional and unwavering love and the importance of community in times of hardship.” —Nancy Caronia, co-editor of Personal Effects: Memoir, Teaching, and Culture in the Work of Louise DeSalvo (Fordham University Press), Teaching Assistant Professor, Dept of English, West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV “Diana Pishner Walker’s vivid and authentic storytelling sends two brave young boys on an adventure that moves beyond the familiar trappings of the holidays and onto the high seas and a dangerous winter storm.
