This section in every issue will be dedicated to one of our writer’s or featured guests telling the story of when they came to Christ. For this Inaugural issue, I thought I’d tell my story.

My path was long and winding…. Being raised Catholic, I was baptized by sprinkling as a baby. I participated in each of the sacraments at the appropriate age. First Holy Communion in 4th grade at 9 years old. Confirmation at 13 as a freshman in high school. I was a faithful, faith filled and practicing Catholic until my freshman year of college.

When I went away to school, I stopped going to mass and attended an African Methodist Episcopalian church near campus that a lot of my friends attended. When I left college and came home to care for my uncle, I found myself driving around each Sunday in search of a service in progress. Shying away from the larger churches in Chicago’s Southside. I found a neighborhood church. Swedish Covenant in faith. Still not quite sure what that means. The pastor, Anton Davis had been a seminary student at North Park. Upon graduation he was sent to Pastor this congregation of a bit less than 50 regular members. The size and feel of this church fit my journey. It was in this pulpit that I preached my first sermon as an assistant youth pastor. For this man of God, I made my first robe. I grew up in my faith here and was hard pressed to leave. But when I moved to Indianapolis, the trips home became fewer and farther between. During my tenure in Indy, I joined Eastern Star Baptist Church. As you can see, I had no ‘group’ base for my belief in God’s Grace. I found him in the religious practices of all people, still do! Pastor Jeffrey Johnson was the first preacher I’d ever seen preach without a written sermon. He was and still is the most illustrative speaker. He brings scripture to life. Making every verse applicable to modern life and modern needs. He is the one that inspired my belief that the Bible is NOT a novella. It is a Book of Instruction and Illumination for our lives. My return to Chicago a few years later found me outgrowing the small neighborhood church. I landed one searching Sunday at Trinity United Church of Christ. Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright’s teachings and example showed me that Christ was not a passive member of our past, but a very present help in the time of trouble. Much of my tenure running the hospice found me saying the homes of my patients were my church and their bedsides my pulpit. When that life was over, it was a good friend who invited me to visit Apostolic Faith Church of 38th and Indiana. One Sunday in August 2011, I heard the audible voice of God say you need to be baptized. “But I was as a baby. Is the whole “pool thing” needed?”

He Speaks to Me… To GOD be the GLORY! I am so excited to have you reading this magazine. In the early stages of this Inaugural issue, I called upon my very good friend, Elder Dashaun Blankenship, for a word of encouragement and boy, did he have one, He told me to GO BACK AGAIN and claim what God has for me! It ignited me to finish this magazine and begin this work. So I thought I would share it with you. Perhaps there is something God promised you, that you’ve forgotten. GO BACK AGAIN! God gave me a heart for leaders at birth. This effort, this ministry is my gift to each of you sent by God. In your role as teacher, leader, mentor, disciplinarian, mother and father, most importantly… as Shepherd unto His sheep, you have unprecedented access to the hearts and minds and souls of God’s people. He desires for you to act in that capacity with love, compassion, strength and order.

This ‘Staff” is intended to assist you in doing just that. In each issue we will bring you information and tools to assist in your ongoing role and responsibilities. It is my prayer that you will be informed and inspired!

So everyday I turn into my garage and the first thing I see is a pile of "stuff".

It's been almost a year since the move. There were still boxes, bags and containers we hadn't opened. There were built in shelves where most of the stuff was piled. However, the right side of the garage was just an enormous ‘pile’. Part of a weekly ritual was to unstack that pile to get to something I needed. A year in, this should not still be the method of operation. We allow our lives to become ‘piles’ much the same way. Not intentionally but without intention we don’t manage the gift of life we’ve been given from the Creator.

In frustration one morning, I decided to get some order to the pile and buy another shelf. That way, I could easily get to the things I need OR could even direct my daughter or someone else to pull out what THEY needed, fostering independence. The hunt for the shelf began with sales papers from Lowes, Home Depot and Menards. In case you haven't had this experience, when not on sale these things are ridiculously priced.

I found what I thought would work; put the sales papers in the recycling bin and decided I'd pick one up on the weekend to start this little project.

Early one morning, I sped pass a black aluminum shelving unit. It had been put out by one of my neighbors as trash. (A point I'll come back to later) BUT it was JUST WHAT I NEEDED. Unfortunately I was in a hurry. So I had to drive by my blessing! When I got home nearly 15 hours later... it was STILL THERE! Well this time I made time and space to load it and drive it back to my house.

Beloved, we ask God for what we need to get our lives in order.... we ask for what we want to make things look better to us.... we ask for what we desire to help our outlook. BUT like me sometimes we drive right by the manifestation of the blessing. We're too busy with the things of life that won't yield for us the order, the vision/view, the outlook we seek. God however loves us so much that He allows us through grace and mercy to come back pass those things and have a second chance! For those second chances we should all shout GLORY! A second chance at that education... a second chance at that job.... a second chance with that child.... a second chance with your health.... a second chance with that relationship.... And what others discard as trash.... OR if you have been 'discarded' by someone.... PLEASE know YOU are JUST what someone else has been PRAYING for.... PLANNING for.... PREPARING for!! When THEY get you... you will fit perfectly, be able to handle what they pile on and change the view/vision/outlook in their space.

As a side note... we found so many treasured items in those unpacked boxes we'd been searching for all year! If only we’d taken the time to unpack the blessings of God he’d already provided.

What have you passed by or not unpacked in your life that will make all the difference for YOU??? This publication was ‘packed away’ and I’m so grateful that God is giving me a second chance. With an open heart and Willingness to Serve Him will I live all the days of my life. This is only the beginning!

Deuteronomy 8:18 (ISV) Many people tend to ignore or overlook the role that faith should play when making financial and investment decisions. Some believe in the Word of God but they do not see the results of their faith in their financial lives. Others believe that faith is irrelevant and that it plays no part at all in their finances.

Finance: According To Your Faith’s (FATYF) mission is to reach out to God’s people to teach them step-by-step how to manage their financial matters and empower them to build wealth. Why? Because so many of God’s people are hurting as a result of financial mismanagement and ignorance concerning debt, credit and savings while others are successful but are keenly aware that they are called to do more with the financial resources God has placed in their care.

Colossians 3:17 (NIV) One of the biggest mistakes many ministries make is treating church events… anniversaries, conferences, teas and luncheons like parties. Every event you have is a God given opportunity you create to wins souls to Christ. These events are also opportunities to operate in the excellence of our Creator. We’ve solicited the advice of professional event planners, Kimtoya Owens and Brandi Nicholes, of K& B Events to provide you with Tips for successful and potentially life changing event planning.

This may seem like an obvious tip, but it isn’t as obvious as it seems. Many people leave either one or both of these steps until late. Your venue and date will help you determine how many can be invited, décor, and length of time for the event. It will also help you set a realistic timeline and a manageable checklist for all project completion.

This may seem like child’s play, but a theme for your event is a great idea. A themed event can help birth ideas for décor and also activities for guests if needed. It can also help to streamline over indulgence.

Delegation in event planning is a very good stress reliever. Now that you have the basics together, you’ll want someone to help bring more ideas to the table and to make sure that all tasks are taken care of on the day of the event.

You’ll also want an insider for locating and negotiating the best deals. A vendor who will only work with you once is much less likely to offer the incentives they would to a frequent customer.

We cannot stress this enough.

Be realistic! This will determine what kind of event you can afford to have. A budget can be the determining factor between a successful event and an unsuccessful event.

Planning beyond your means will cause stress and may lead to insufficient funds for an important element for your event. We are also called to be good stewards over the resources God has provided us with. We are certain the Pastor is not going to be pleased with an ice sculpture that costs $800.

It is pointless to plan an enormous, beautiful event and no one knows about it except for your church members and their close friends and family.

Use an e-blast service like Nationwide Ministry (advertised on the inside cover) to get the word out. Remember every event is a Soul winning opportunity.

Be sure that your planner is aware of your budget and is willing to stick to it also. If they are not, find a new planner! Running out of money before all is said and done is sure to sabotage all of your efforts for success. Create in-kind donation opportunities for church members who have businesses.

This can be done in exchange for advertising the business on the program for the evening.

Facebook can be just entertainment for all 1.28 billion off its other users. YOU however, have to see it, use it as another vehicle to reach your congregation on a day-to-day basis. Long gone is the life where Sunday service and a quick Wednesday night bible study provide enough life affirmation to war in the world which we live. Just as Jesus did, we have to be prepared to travel into the places where sin lives.

Many ministers and pastors say “Facebook is of the devil.”. But just like anyplace else sin lives, if Christians are not there to disrupt the work with the WORD, then yes satan can and will use Social Media as a tool.

Your presence has to be seen as a resource for daily manna. You should have a strategic and well mapped out plan for outreach and campaign development. There is market research and data available for your use. Outlining everything from user demographics to peak posting and exchange times.

Most businesses, including the mega ministries and Fortune 500 major corporations have employed Social Media Managers as a part of their core team now. That is a testament to it’s capabilities and importance. It is a vital piece of most national and worldwide ministry formats. Mega pastors have seen the need and benefit to using social media to improve relationships and grow congregations.

They gain insight and access not afforded them from the pulpit. They also use the mediums to engage the general population in conversations about God and His good works. These individuals may never step foot in a sanctuary but they also may have never been invited to do so had it not been for a web based presence.

It's time for us to WAKE UP and infiltrate, flood the internet and social media with sites like Facebook Twitter, Instagram and yes even Myspace with the life affirming, life giving word of God. WAKE UP! The need is not in the pews, Nor is the solution. It's up to you to find the need and meet it!

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”

1 Corinthians 6:19

How often do we hear the words repeated that our bodies are temples, yet we pollute our bodies with substances, unhealthy foods, etc? Why do we do this? Many of us are overworked, stressed, trying to give the best we can to our church, families and employers yet neglect ourselves, putting ourselves last if at all. We can’t fully give to others if we don’t first give to ourselves.

Here are five things we can all do TODAY, right now, to begin to nurture ourselves so that we are a true reflection of that scripture.

1. Prayer, Meditation and Reflection It is important to nourish our spirit first and foremost.

It helps to begin our day with scripture, meditation and prayer, as this can set the tone for our entire day.

Many times, our first impulse is to hit the alarm, to jump out of bed and to go about starting our day quickly. Instead of rushing to get ourselves and our families ready, instead of thinking of all the challenges that await us at our work place, we would do well to quiet ourselves for a few minutes to thank God for our blessings, for His grace and guidance throughout our day. Starting our day in this manner can help to keep us centered and focused on our purpose.

After the day is done, it is also good to spend time speaking with God and reflecting on our day. Prayer and meditation with God also gives us clarity about any issues we faced that day. It also helps to spend this time with your family, praying together. The old adage, “A family that prays together stays together” is true.

2. Sleep Sleep is when memories are imprinted in our brains.

It’s the time that our children grow. It’s when our bodies truly rest. Adults need 8 hours of sleep, on average, and children need 10-12 Yes, that includes teenagers! Contrary to teenagers’ belief, lying in bed texting or chatting on social media websites doesn’t count toward sleep requirements.

Just like a tired toddler needs a nap to avoid being cranky, we too need our sleep. Inadequate sleep encourages weight gain, makes us cranky, and makes us perform less well during our work day. It’s best to sleep without noise (no TV) and without light (no night light), so that our bodies and brains can truly rest. If young children are afraid of the dark, placing widely spaced out glow-in-the-dark wall/ceiling decals can help to provide some light without overwhelming the retinas of our eyes. Making sure we get our 8 hours of sleep (not lying down time, but actual sleep) isn’t selfish, it is vital to our temple.

3. Nutrition We all know that eating is essential, but what we eat is extremely important. We need a balanced diet so as to take in adequate nutrients to keep our bodies functioning. This is also important for our children who are still growing, and whose brains are still developing. High fat, nutrient-poor, “junk” foods make us and our children sluggish and obese, and eating these foods make us crave them even more. It sets up a vicious cycle. However, eating nutrient-dense, healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables and lean protein sources makes us crave these foods. Your physician or nutritionist can help to guide you toward choosing the right foods to fuel your body.

We wouldn’t fill our gas tanks with garbage, and we shouldn’t fill our temples with garbage either. If we fill our tanks with subpar gasoline, our cars will run, but not as efficiently. The same goes for filling our bodies, our temples, with subpar foods.

4. Consume Water We lose water daily, and not just through urination and sweat. We even loose water with breathing. We dehydrate ourselves when we drink fluids such as alcohol, sports/energy drinks, tea, coffee and pop.

Our bodies are 60-70% water, so need to replenish these losses so as to maintain stable body functioning.

8 full glasses (64 ounces) of water per day is a good place to start, if we don’t live an active lifestyle. If we’re active, exercising 3 or more days a week (see below), then we will need more.

If you have any conditions such as congestive heart failure, kidney disease, or hypertension, or if you’re taking any prescription medication, please check with your doctor about what your daily water requirements are.

Being well hydrated, with regard to our individual health concerns, is essential to caring for our temple.

5. Exercise Regularly Unless you have a medical condition that makes exercise difficult or impossible, it is essential to exercise on a regular basis. 30 minutes a day on most days of the week (4-5) helps to maintain health, can help to keep our weight controlled and can make us better able to handle stress. Walking, swimming, jogging, yoga, interactive video games, and other exercise methods are good. If we’re nourishing our temples with prayer, good food, sleep and water, adding exercise only enhances this. Sometimes, our exercise time can be used for meditation and talking with God. It is also possible to use this time for the building of a better temple for our families as well.

Again it is important to check with your doctor about which exercises are medically safe for you.

Dr. Natalie Santiago is a Board Certified Pediatrician in the city of Chicago. “As pediatrician, I believe in providing quality, compassionate health care to children of all ages. I have a special devotion to caring for the medically underserved.” This compassion extends to children ages 1 to 100. Dr. Santiago is a graduate of the Creighton University School of Medicine. She completed her undergraduate work at Chicago State University. Both her Internship and Fellowship were completed at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. She is fluent in Spanish. She was a vegetarian for 24 years and has followed a holistic Vegan diet for the last two years.

We use various facets of it on a day-to-day basis. In upcoming issues of the Shepard’s Staff, I will contribute an ongoing article series regarding organizational leadership & management; and how to utilize this precious component in the Church.      

Why would you as a leader want to consider utilizing this component?

What types of ongoing training is in place for staff and non-staff leadership?

Who tracks and measures the various initiatives that take place within the church?

How is success measured in the Church?

How do you retain membership?

How organized are the various ministries, programs, and initiatives?

On a bi-monthly basis, you will receive snippets of information to assist you with enhancing and growing your ministry or Church.

Organizational development creates and shapes organizational effectiveness within an organization. It is important that leadership is aware of the elements that are Church strengths and weaknesses. In the Bible, it states that we should know those that labor among us.        

Do you know those that labor among you?

Do you know their gifts and talents?

Are their gifts and talents being used effectively for the mission of the Church?

What is the strategic plan of the Church?

Does the leadership team and congregational membership understand the vision?

Can you honestly say that you operate with ONE team, ONE voice?

If not, what do you think it will take to get everyone on the same page?

If leadership and members do not understand the vision and their place on the vision board, how will they get there?

These thought provoking questions are in place to plant growth seeds. As a Pastor or ministry leader, you have a huge initiative to save souls, grow the Church and spread the good news. However, you cannot accomplish this alone. You depend on the Holy Spirit and others to move the vision forward. If you are able to create a plan and evaluate the gifts and talents of your teams, you will be able to see increase in your efforts.

Creating vehicles that keep the message in front of your leaders and the membership will go a long way.

Creating an organizational structure that coincides with the vision of the Church is certainly another step in the right direction. Identifying individuals who are committed and willing to use their gifts for the glory of God is another step.

Placing these individuals strategically throughout the ministry and building a team that compliments their areas of opportunity is yet another powerful step. In future issues, I will discuss in depth how these initiatives work in the Church.

And Elijah said to Ahab, “Go, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy rain.” So Ahab went off to eat and drink, but Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees. “Go and look toward the sea,” he told his servant. And he went up and looked. “There is nothing there,” he said.

Seven times Elijah said, “Go back.” The seventh time the servant reported, “A cloud as small as a man’s is rising from the sea.” So Elijah said, “Go and tell Ahab, ‘Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’” Meanwhile, the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose, a heavy rain started falling and Ahab rode off to Jezreel. The power of the LORD came on Elijah and, tucking his cloak into his belt, he ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel.

I Kings 18: 41-46 NIV Whatever it is that God has brought you out of that is an unfinished work and you yourself haven’t done everything God has told you to do. GO BACK AGAIN! Beloved, I am telling you, God wants to bring you out of a place but not before you finish what he’s called you to do. Let me go on to say this. God is not a man that he should lie, neither the son of man, that he should repent. Had He said it, shall He not do it? Or had He spoken, shall He not make it good?

If God said it, it will happen!

Beloved, whatever God has promised you, is for YOU! So go after it! GO BACK AGAIN! GO BACK AGAIN and get everything that God says belongs to you. Beloved, don’t let depression, fear, low self esteem, doubt, worry, lack of education, lack of finances or anything of such, stop you from getting what God has for you. So, GO BACK AGAIN. God has many untapped, unreleased blessings with your name on them and He’s waiting for you to wise up in your spiritual authority and take hold of them. No matter how difficult the task. No matter how difficult the test. No matter how overwhelmed you may become while you’re waiting on your deliverance, healing or even breakthrough. God’s word will not return unto Him void.

It will accomplish everything. Somebody underline that, highlight it and circle it. God’s word will accomplish everything that He has sent it to do. So GO BACK AGAIN! For your hope should be built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. For the people that know their God shall be strong and do great exploits.

Somebody say “I gotta’ do some great things.”

Let me just say this to you beloved, you are the people of God. If you are a born again believer you know your God. You can call on Him and He will answer you. You have been given the awesome and supernatural spiritual authority as a born again believer to call those things that are not as though there were. So open up your mouth and decree your destiny. Open your mouth and declare your future. Tell the devil “enough is enough. I’ve come back to get ALL that you’ve stolen from me. I’m not leaving until I recover all!”

GO BACK AGAIN! Now you in Christ Jesus are the head and not the tail; above and never beneath. You’re more than a conqueror because your God, the great I am that I am, is a mighty warrior, He is the Great and Strong Power, The mighty God. Besides Him, there is no other. Let me say it once more, GO BACK AGAIN. Know ye not that you have been purchased with a price. You are not your own but you are God’s. You’ve been redeemed by the price of the shed blood of Jesus on Calvary’s Cross. You need to know that. Because you have been redeemed you are victorious. you. When Jesus died for you over two thousand years ago, He paid the supreme price so that you could receive the supreme victory through supreme inheritance.

So Beloved, as a child of God know this: you move, you live, you have your very being in Christ Jesus. You are no longer your own but Christ’s. As His body you are now separated from the world. You are sanctified.

You are separated for God’s use only. You no longer are ordinary or even common in the eyes of God. You are peculiar. For you dwell in heavenly places and because His precious Spirit dwells within you, you can no longer afford to do even the slightest thing the way the world does it. No matter how small or insignificant it may appear to be. Your destiny, your future resides in your sanctification; Being separated from the world.

The outcome, your outcome is going to be determined by your obedience. Beloved, in Christ Jesus you are stronger in the Lord and in the power of His might. You have the power through Christ Jesus to do miraculous things. Therefore in everything that you seek, desire and long to receive from God, know this, He desires for you to have it all. For it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. BUT if you are going to have it all, you must GO BACK AGAIN. When God speaks a word to you, sometimes you have to GO BACK AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN. You can’t get tired in well doing. God’s promises through Christ Jesus are yea and Amen. God says I’ve got a finished work and a finished plan for you. You can’t get to the place where you yourself are quitting on God. The devil is a liar.

I love the scripture because it speaks about Elijah speaking a word in authority. If you read the scripture before I Kings chapter 18, you will find that Elijah himself had spoken a word over the people. He says, “that it shall not rain but by my word”. For three and a half years it did not rain because God trusted Elijah and Elijah trusted in God. In so trusting God, God closed up the heavens. When all of a sudden Elijah said it's beginning to rain, his servant says I don't see anything. I just want to talk to a servant of God today. You may not see anything but GO BACK AGAIN . If God has spoken word over your life, your ministry it will come to pass. God's Word will accomplish everything that he sent it to do. God's word will prove itself. So you have to GO BACK AGAIN, GO BACK AGAIN AND GO BACK AGAIN. Stand and see the salvation of the Lord. Trust in the lover of your soul. Trust that God's Word is true.

One of you reading this was getting ready to throw in the towel. God says I never said that I wasn't going to give you victory. He does say that when you've done all you can do, stand. Beloved standing doesn’t mean backing up.

Standing doesn’t mean turning around. Standing mean standing. It means trusting in God. It means believing in God. It means holding onto the lover of your soul. The word that he is spoken to you will give life and that much more abundantly. God says that if He can get his glory out of you, you will be blessed. You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the field. You will be blessed in your coming in and your going out. All you have to do is GO BACK AGAIN. 20 The Shepherd’s Staff

The abundance is there. Like the abundant rain that was falling for Elijah. I know you’re asking me, Elder Blankenship, HOW do I GO BACK AGAIN? How do I go back when it seems that everything is against me? When I go back it seems like it’s worse than when I was standing where I was. I know what God says belongs to me is there, but I don’t know how to go back.

How do I go back to recover all? How do I GO BACK AGAIN to tell the thief, the liar and the murderer that what you have belongs to me? The answer is back in the word of God. You must go back in prayer, petitioning, seeking Him and expecting He will be no short of His word.

There has to be a preparation period. I can’t say to you GO BACK AGAIN and not tell you to begin by getting yourself stirred up in the Holy Spirit. You have to get yourself in your prayer closet. You have to return to a place of petitioning God. You have to get set on fire again. Beloved it’s not enough for you to believe in your God, you’ve got to expect Him to be who He says He is. If you don’t have an on fire desire of expectancy concerning what you need of the Lord, then you have already lost the battle. You will be defeated in your pursuit of what God has for you. You have to be on fire with expectancy, knowing that God Himself has heard you. You have to be on fire, knowing God has heard you, that He will answer you.

God is looking for that kind of faith. God is saying when you recover that thing that you think He has forgotten about; When He keeps His promise to heal your broken heart; God says He will be glorified in that very thing.

GO BACK AGAIN until it is finished. Stand to see the salvation of the lord. Stay with God until the end. Beloved, never, never give up until you see what God has promised. For the vision is yet for an appointed time. At the end it shall speak and not lie. Though it tarry, wait for it. It will surely come. GO BACK AGAIN to that place where you felt defeated. It was always there.

Elder DaShaun L. Blankenship is a member of Rhema Word Kingdom Ministries International, located in Riverdale, Illinois, where Elder Gerald L. Glasper is pastor and Elder Toni Glasper is co-pastor. Elder Blankenship gave his life to Christ at the young age of 10, but it wasn’t until June 7th. 1996 that he rededicated his life to Christ and became a “sanctified, on fire, sold out, Holy-Ghost-filled, true believer” on Jesus Christ! Elder Blankenship attended both Western Illinois University, in Macomb Illinois and DePaul University in Chicago Illinois, where he majored in Marketing and Finance with a minor in Psychology, and was also honored as a “Who’s Who” among college students known throughout the US. In addition, Elder Blankenship is noted for having become the first African American to become a member of the prestigious and nationally known fraternity of “PHI-KAPPA-THETA” while attending Western Illinois University, along with also being a member of the prestigious business fraternity “PHI-BETTTA-LAMDA” and even more prestigious honors fraternity “PHI-THETA–KAPPA.” He completed his education from DePaul University in 1988.

In 2000, Elder Blankenship accepted his call into ministry and some years later, in 2005, was officially licensed as a minister.

In May of 2009, having received a promotion from the Lord, he was elevated even higher, as he was ordained as an Elder.

Elder Blankenship walks in the office of the prophet where he flows strongly in the ministry of healing and deliverance and walks boldly in the scripture of Numbers 23:19 - “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? My strongest childhood memory is… After I gave my life to Christ (at the age of 10), I attended a youth carnival at my local YMCA. At the carnival there was a 10 Speed Bicycle that was being raffled off, where the persons whose ticket was pulled out of a bucket (among 300 or more entries) would be the winner! Well, I thought if there was ever a great time to pray now would be it, seeing as though I was now a child of God and my Heavenly Father was in the prayer answering business. So, right before receiving my ticket, I closed my eyes and prayed the only prayer that I knew to pray at that time – “God will you give me that bike!”

After some four, long anticipated hours later, and to my elated surprise, “I WON!” My heroes are… Jesus, the disciples (except Judas), David, Apostle Paul, Moses, Abraham, Elijah, Eleazar (one of David’s Might Men), Enoch, Joshua, Job, Esther and definitely my MOM!

My greatest accomplishment is… Accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and personal savior – both now and forever!

My greatest regret is… Not telling my mom (before she went home to be with the Lord) how grateful I was that God chose her to tell me about Jesus. She was the one who brought me to God’s house and taught me about the importance of being born again.

The thing that surprised me most about marriage is… “God actually sees us as ONE!” The first thing I do in the morning is… I tell the Lord I love Him and thank Him for another day in the Land of the living.

The last thing I do at night is… I tell the Lord I love Him and ask Him to forgive me of my sins, both known and unknown.

Right now, I’m listening to… “Prayers of the Righteous” by Israel & New Breed - Again & Again & Again! This is not simply a song that I listen to, I use this “divinely, heaven-sent” music to meditate upon daily!

I believe… God’s Word is TRUE! I believe in… The Power of the Holy Ghost, the Power of Prayer and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ!

I am humbled by… The size of a Great White Whale, the birth of a child, that God knew me before I was formed in my mothers womb and that I have an expected end!

My favorite scripture is… Numbers 23:19 (NIV)“God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?”

My favorite quote is… "I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. Don’t Give Up… You heard God say start a ministry, start a homeless shelter, start a recovery center, or start a home for teen moms. So where do you start? What do you need? And most importantly where is the money going to come from? In my case I heard God say start a woman’s ministry called Women of Valor. I was very excited because I now had direction. All the things that I had gone through now made sense. I finally understood that God had been preparing me for this very thing. Was I scared, yes? Did I have a clue about what to do? I was absolutely clueless and to make matters worse I couldn’t find anyone who was doing what God was calling me to do.

I know that seems incredulous to you because now almost every other person that you meet has started a Para-church ministry or wants to start one. I looked on the internet, asked friends and family members who did they know. I went to several bookstores and libraries but could not find anything except information on how to start women’s ministries in an established church. Did I give up? No. eleven years later we are still going and growing. Thank you Jesus!

MUSIC IS LIFE by Bro. Keion Boyde Our human nature is to mistreat, judge or gossip about things we do not understand. Gospel hip-hop or Christian rap is one of the most controversial topics in the church world today. Some believe that tying the hip-hop world to the church world is sending a mixed message.

Some believe that it is the devil himself, trying to trick the hearts of our youth into thinking that having double standards is ok.

Like jazz, gospel, contemporary, classical and reggae; hip-hop is just a form or style of music with a bass drum cadence vibrating our speakers. If you ask most youth why they listen to hip-hop, most of them would say that they listen because they like the beat of the music, disregarding the disrespectful lyrics that are being fed into their spirits. If you ask any urban kid what they want to be or who do they look up to, seven times out of ten their answer will be some form of a hip hop figure. Ask our youth why they dress the way they do. Six out of ten youth would say they were influenced by a hip-hop figure.

WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY KEION? Whether we like it or not, the hip hop world has the ear of our young people and yes that includes our Christian youth as well. We are dealing with a different type of young person in this 21st century and their hearts seek something that they can relate to.

SO WHAT DO WE DO FROM HERE? Well, thank you for asking again!

We address this by learning to stay open minded and learning to be inclusive in our ministries. If done in the right spirit, Gospel hip-hop can be highly effective among our young people. Not only do they get a cool beat but they get the good news about our God in a creative way. The powerhouse gospel hip-hop artist, Toby Mac, Lecrae, Andy Mineo (shown left top to bottom in this order) and the Reach Record family have proven this over and over again.

Remember God does not change. His word remains the same but his methods change as the human race continues to grow. Like television, radio, computers, gospel music, and poetry, gospel hip-hop is just another method that God can use to spread his glorious word about his plan for salvation.

That first Sunday, I was sitting in the middle of a pew. My argument was the seven on the left and the seven on the right. God had the entire row in front of me clear OUT! I chuckled to myself at how funny God is. He wanted this so badly that He actually suggested I climb over that pew. The next Sunday, certain God had a ‘thing’ for that side of the church, I sat in the polar opposite direction. For perhaps the first time in my tenure at Apostolic Faith Church on 38th and Indiana, Bishop Horace E. Smith preached almost his entire sermon to the south side of the building. When he began altar call he came down out of the pulpit, looked right at me (or so it felt) and said “It’s time to go public with your praise!” Like much of my life, I was the only one to be baptized that service. But I was NOT the only one whose life was changed that day. My children are the heirs to that relationship I forged with God. My mother and father reap the benefits of the blessings bestowed upon me that day. Even you as you read this article are effected by my obedience to commit my life and give back to God the talents, passion, drive he gifted me with. To say it was the best things I’ve ever done doesn’t seem to do it justice.

Don’t get me wrong, there are days when I am certain He rethinks that call. But there isn’t a SINGLE one that I regret the decision to answer. And so TO GOD BE THE GLORY! …..for the things He has done!

We associate the seasons with change. Just as in the natural, there are seasons in our spiritual lives:

Fall

– Finally, the season of harvest is here! We can receive that which we planted in the spring. In our spiritual season of harvest, God gives to us the blessings of the fruit of our labor. It is in this season that we see that our labor has not been in vain. It is important not to be greedy in this season, however.

It is important to give of the first fruits of our increase back to God. We should also make sure to prepare for the future. Winter is coming again and we must be ready! The fall is a high season of rejoicing, too. There were times when we didn’t think we’d make it through the cold of winter, the rain of spring, nor the heat of summer, but thanks be to God, we made it, and now we can rejoice!

Spring

– Spring is a season of rebirth and renewal. In the spring months (naturally), the days are longer, it’s getting warmer, and we have a lot of rain. The rain is needed, however, to help the crops grow. The same is true spiritually. If we never had any rain, then we would never grow. The rains of our trials and tribulations in our spiritual spring help nourish the seeds we’ve planted spiritually. If we have the faith the size of a mustard seed…that mustard seed has to be watered to grow (Matthew 17:20)! That planting and watering comes in our springtime.

Winter – when we think of the winter season (naturally), cold and barren comes to mind. The trees have no leaves; no crops are grown or harvested.

Spiritually, the winter season bares a resemblance to the natural winter season; it is a period of no growth and no harvest. The nights are long and the days are short. However, in the winter season, we live off the harvest we reaped in the fall season. We live off the blessings of Gad and recall them when all hope seems lost. Just like we have the joy of Christmas in the heart of winter, the joy of the Lord IS our strength in our spiritual winter months (Nehemiah 8:10).

Summer – Lord, is it hot! We

longed for warmer days during the winter, and now that summer is here, we’re wishing for cooler times! But the days are longer and we can venture out and do a bit more outside. Spiritually, don’t think the devil isn’t trying to scorch what you’ve planted in spring! He’s going to try to burn you and your crops, but don’t give in! The heat process isn’t meant to defeat us, but to refine us (Malachi 3:3). Let the rays of sunshine in the season be a reminder of hope and encouragement that our day of harvest is soon coming. Be not weary in well doing; we shall reap a harvest of blessings if we faint not (2 Thessalonians

Jermaine works by the philosophy of "Less is More" He tells all of his clients, "find that one signature item and let that [be what makes the outfit pop]!" So men don't go overboard and make a statement with everything you put on.

Let your outfit be simple so that your signature piece can show off your swagger.

If we are talking informal, Jermaine suggests "...a nice button up or zippered sweater, a simple button up shirt, some basic fitted jeans (washed or dark rinse) or a straight leg pant and some classic long toe shoes."

MOISTURIZE YOUR SKIN! MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR SKIN MOIST. I recommend Black and White Skin Soap."Come on Fellas, this is not so much to ask. You don't have to go through the task of makeup and getting all dolled up. Just have a clean and soft, touchable face! Jermaine also suggest you use an astringent on your face. This will help cleanse the oil out of your pores and shrink them to give you a fresh smooth look. You can find the one that works best for you in your local drugstore.

This book is excellent! As I r ead through Kar lton Har ris’ book “I’m Free! Now What?” I thought this is a must read book for every inmate that will be transitioning back into society, in fact every worker, volunteer, church and organizations working with those who are incarcerated and who will reenter community should read this book.

Karlton lists 10 steps that will help them keep from re-offending. He also gives the message of hope and don't give up. Karlton can speak the language and walk the talk. He has been there and has successfully made it.

Karlton would readily tell you that he did not make it on his own but with the strength and power of the Lord Jesus Christ. I would love to see this reach every prison it is a great tool! Everyone deserves a second chance if they are seeking that chance. This book is a great tool and inspiration for the offender population as they transition from imprisonment to independent living outside these walls. This book is an exceptional tool in support of a successful reentry back to society if the readers take heed to the instruments detailed throughout the book.

This book is a fundamental instrument for aiding in the efforts of meeting the offender’s emotional, spiritual, and educational needs. There has been a tremendous response from the offenders who feel this book is the perfect resource in gearing them in the right direction. Karlton Harris is the founder and president of Re-entry Consultants of America (RECOA) LLC, Karlton Harris Ministries (KHM), and Six Sons Productions. With nearly 15 years of re-entry experience, Karlton is a much sought-after conference key-note speaker, workshop presenter, and holistic re-entry specialist.

A former prisoner himself, Mr. Harris obtained his Associates degree while incarcerated. Upon his release from prison in 2000, he enrolled at Olivet Nazarene University where he graduated in 2002 receiving a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is the author of the award winning and recidivism reducing book, “I’m Free! Now What?” On July 7th, 2013, he made a guest appearance on Oprah’s Lifeclass’ “Fatherless Sons.” After providing a guest with some fatherly advice, Karlton decided to take action and assist fathers everywhere. “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Luke 4:18-19 If you believe you have been called to serve God and His people in any capacity, then you should carry the desire to remain anointed. In Exodus 30: 22-25 God provides the formula for the making of the anointing.

Moreover the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred [shekels], and of sweet cinnamon half so much, [even] two hundred and fifty [shekels], and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty [shekels], And of cassia five hundred [shekels], after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive an hin: And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.

The formula to maintaining your anointing is the same. It is essential that we pray for the anointing of every thing in our lives. If we look at the components used in the oil, there is process revelation provided.

Five hundred shekels of pure myrrh.

Myrrh was used in ancient Egypt for embalming.

Although it’s been known for it’s use as a perfume or incense, it’s primary purpose was in the preparation of the dead. So in order to obtain this element of the anointing, death has to occur. In context, myrrh was required at a double portion in comparison to the other ingredients. It was also listed first. That is an indication that a part of you has to die before you begin.

What part of your life have you not left behind? What earthly pleasure or ungodly involvement must you do away with? We are all sinners, saved by grace. But as the called of God you must live beyond reproach.

Two hundred fifty shekels of sweet cinnamon.

Known historically as so precious that it was guarded.

So expensive that it was thought appropriate for a young prince. Sweet cinnamon brings sweetness to the anointing. It was used as incense to clear away

the smell left behind after the sacrifice. So if a double portion of myrrh is required to ensure a part of you dies, then the cinnamon is required to change the essence. You can’t operate in the anointing with a mean, hard spirit. You must have some sweetness.

Sweetness in your personality, sweetness in your communication, sweetness in your spirit.

Two hundred fifty shekels of sweet calamus.

Sweet Calamus grows in some of the most questionable conditions for it to be considered necessary for the anointing. Grown primarily in very murky soil. Not the environment that produces roses.

And yet it’s power lies in the power of it’s sweet aroma. Sought after for making perfumes. It is believed that the more you break the calamus reed, the stronger and more aromatic it becomes. The anointing will require you to be broken. The more you are broken, the stronger your presence will become. The stronger you are, your very essence will be sought after to change the environment you are put in.

Five hundred shekels of cassia.

Lastly, God instructed Moses to include a double portion of cassia. Very similar and often mistaken for cinnamon. It’s distinction is in it’s location of origin.

Cassia will not be readily harvested or easy to obtain.

It is grown at elevation higher than 8000 ft. You will work hard and long to obtain this last element. Much like your anointing, there is no easy road. There will be no short cuts or fast breaks. But then what in life that is truly worth having is? To maintain your anointing you will study, pray, fast and serve.

The oil was to be made by the hand of the apothecary. That means with the knowledge, precision and care of one who changes lives by perfecting formulas that heal and restore. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be you steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. (I Cor 15:58)

Initially Bride of Christ Robes got its start in 1998 while working in my small manufacturing business “Signature Wedding” (where we made bridal gowns). Actually, I was walking down the hallway between the sewing area and cutting area when I heard the voice of the Lord say to me! “You’ve been dressing the brides of this world long enough now it’s time to dress my Bride.” He then gave me the name; "You will call it the “Bride of Christ Robes Collection”.

After much time and hesitation, I finally submitted to God’s call and said if you show me how I will do it. Since I am not in the ministry (other than our call to evangelize), I had no idea of the needs or clothing concerns of the women God had called to carry His Word. So reluctantly, I began researching fabric, linings, Design/styles etc. all under the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

Today the Bride of Christ Collection presents over 24 different styles of robes for women in the ministry and more are being added regularly. Whenever we have an opportunity to display our robes at Christian Conferences; and the women of God remark as to their beauty in color and design and how much they love all of them! I respond “I know because your Father designed them just for you.

I have been in the design and manufacturing business for over 34 years, designing High Fashion Garments; Dance Costumes, Entertainers Outfits Wedding Gowns, etc. In 2006, God closed the door on all other areas of business, requiring that I focus all of our attention and expertise on His Bride.

We pray over each garment and for: each Apostle, Bishop, Pastor, Evangelist and every Women of God that has been called into ministry. We pray that God would anoint her with a special anointing as she enters into His love and service.

by Loren Eiseley (1907 - 1977) Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.

One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.

He came closer still and called out "Good morning!

May I ask what it is that you are doing?"

The young man paused, looked up, and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean."

I" must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?"asked the somewhat startled wise man.

To this, the young man replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die."

Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, "But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can't possibly make a difference!"

At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, "It made a difference for that one."

SISTAH seeks to encourage, empower and equip women to change their lives to become fully functioning members of society after substance abuse. SISTAH aims to assist in the transformation process of recovery while ultimately enabling women to take the responsibility to maintain healthy sober lives.

The goal of SISTAH is to reach out to women from all walks of life regardless of their race, religion or ethnicity who still struggles with the thought of using or usage of drugs and or alcohol even after going through substance abuse treatment.

By reaching out to these women we are able to provide assistance through one of SISTAH's life changing skill seminars. SISTAH's life skill seminars will address the need for "Recovery Management" and the importance that it will have in maintaining sobriety. According to the National Institute on Drugs Abuse (NIDA), "Addiction is a chronic, often relapsing brain disease that causes compulsive drug seeking and use despite harmful consequences to the individual that is and those around them. Similar to other chronic, relapsing diseases, such as diabetes, drug addiction can be managed successfully".

Recovery Management is not a replacement for treatment but will provide the core continuing care that is much needed after treatment and to improve treatment outcomes and to eliminate or shorten episodes or relapse .

To insure that your ideas are conveyed in your event, make sure to meet with your planners or vendors to be sure that progress toward your ideal event is being made. Be clear with your opinion so that you are sure to have what you want.

Give all planners and vendors deadlines to make sure everything is in order. You never want to wait until the last minute for anything, no matter how small it may seem. Organization and time management will not only insure you a successful event, but it also makes sure that stress on the day of the event is minimal.

Stressing out over small details like not finding your exact shade of pink.

A color or other small details can’t make or break an event, but a stressed out host or hostess can. There is always a substitute. Try to stay open minded with the small details. Your event will still be a beautiful success.

Build FORWARD Kathy McClure, President of McClure Publishing, takes manuscripts from conception to tangible results. Her focus is to assist authors in the growth of their writing careers. Although some write for the pleasure of it, she convinces her Authors that writing books is a business that should be treated as such.

Ms. McClure has built this company from the ground up. Started in 2006, the publishing house was created from several challenging experiences. The incidents pushed her forward and taught her how to seek out and receive advice from the experts. Hence, surrounding herself with people who are much smarter than she is, has helped the company grow and contributed to its success.

In the latter part of Proverbs 24 and 6, the Bible says, “… in multitude of counsellors there is safety.” In other words, there is safety around wise counsel.

While producing books for other Authors, she has found time to publish three (3) books of her own: Be Like A tree, Planted …, When A Man Luvs A Woman, and Fluffy-The Neighborhood Dog. She is simultaneously writing two books - a mystery and a self-help book.

Within the same year of opening the company, she published her debut non-fiction Christian book, Be Like A Tree, Planted … which was a seed that was planted along the river’s bank. The TREE grew and started producing much fruit after its own kind. The Authors recognized the growth and decided to join the company by investing in their own dreams. Now, they are spread across the riverbank having a full supply of book distribution in the US, UK and a recently opened facility in Australia.

Even after all that exposure, book sales can fluctuate, which can lead one to believe that their writing and publishing was in vain. Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ had to encourage His disciples. And, since Ms. McClure likes to compare natural things to spiritual things, she encourages her Authors to remember the promise that God will prosper whatever you put your hands to do.

Biblical Principal: In Mark, the eighth chapter, multitudes were fed and later in the same chapter Jesus had to convince his disciples that not only did He take little and made plenty, but there were baskets of fragments left. The first time twelve baskets of fragments were collected and the second time seven baskets were collected. In verse eighteen, Jesus had to remind the disciples of what He did and what was left. During this time, the disciples were looking at the fact that they forgot to bring bread on the boat with them, so Jesus asked them about their eyes, ears, and also their memory. Nonetheless, the disciples witnessed the increase not just once, but twice.

When McClure Publishing started, the business was booming, money was flowing, and then they entered an economic downturn. Not having experienced this before, it was devastating trying to figure out what to do to keep the business afloat, so they started depending on God for their increase. He gave them specific instructions on the direction and the best route to take to invest their money to give them the best return on their investment. At first they could not see clearly until they remembered, through wise counsel, that it was God who put the business together.

The disciples brought a blind man to Jesus and begged Him to touch him, so Jesus took the blind man out of the town of Bethsaida. After leading the blind man out, Jesus spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything.

The man looked up and said, “I see men like trees, walking.” In verse 25, Jesus put His hands on the man’s eyes and the man was restored and saw everyone clearly.

Ms. McClure was determined to see the Authors pass the point of looking like trees.

She started thinking of strategies to elevate them while teaching new and upcoming Authors about writing, publishing and distribution. One of her mottos is to sell what is inside the pages of their book. Give your audience more than just a book. Give them an experience they will remember long after they read the last sentence.
