This event will foster collaboration among dental professionals, encourage the sharing of best practices, and spark innovative solutionstothechallengesweface Together, weaimtoensure dignityandqualitycareforeveryindividual.

I want to draw special attention to the importance of community water fluoridation (CWF), a critical public health initiative that the HDA strongly endorses. CWF is a safe and effective method of preventing tooth decay, particularly in Hispanic and Latinx communities that experience higher rates of dental caries and lower tap water consumption. The HDA remains firmly committed to supporting the initiation, maintenance, andexpansionofCWFwhileopposinganyefforts to restrict it. Access to fluoridated water is essential for promoting better oral health, especially for children and the elderly, and we will continue to advocate for its importance in ourcommunities

However, I must express my deep concern regarding recent budget cuts within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, particularly affecting the CDC’s Division of Oral Health. These cuts threaten vital public health programs that areessentialforthewell-beingofourHispaniccommunities.As President of the HDA, I urge policymakers to reconsider these budget reductions and prioritize funding for programs that support our community’s health needs Elevating oral health mustbeaprioritytoensuretheoverallhealthandprosperityof allHispanicsacrossthenation.

InmyroleasPresident,Iamdedicatedtoelevatingthevoicesof our members and advocating for the oral health needs of our communities.Iactivelyengagewithstakeholders, policymakers, and community leaders to raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by our elderly population and the importance of equitable access to dental care Our initiatives include developing programs that provide education and resources tailored to the needs of older adults, ensuring they understand thesignificanceofmaintainingtheiroralhealth

E.P.I.C. Challenge 2025: Empowering Communities Through Oral Health Education

The E.P.I.C. Challenge 2025 continues its mission of enhancing dental education within Hispanic communities by leveraging the power of social media This initiative, led by the Hispanic Dental Association (HDA) and the Journal of the Hispanic Dental Association (JHDA), empowers student and professional chapters to address dental awareness gaps. With Hispanics being among the most active mobile internet users, the program focuses on providing evidence-based oral health education to combat misinformation.

This year, eight outstanding Hispanic Student Dental Association (HSDA) chapters have been selected to participate, driving conversations around critical topics like gum health, baby teeth care, teeth whitening, pregnancy and dental health, and career opportunities in dentistry The challenge aims to utilize digital platforms for impactful community outreach, ensuring accessible, reliable information for millions.
