Hemp Has Significant Health Benefits For Pets

N

aturVet’s veterinarian-formulated pet supplements have progressed over the last 25 years to keep up with the ever-changing needs of pet parents. NaturVet’s newest Hemp for Health product line includes four top products—Allergy, Calming, Immune and Joint—that are now available enhanced with Hemp Seed Oil and Hemp Seed Powder, sharing the same great original base formulas that pet parents have relied on for years. Although marijuana and hemp come from the same cannabis family, the plants are completely different in function, cultivation and application. Hemp is grown specifically for agricultural purposes and has been used for hundreds of years in textiles, body care

products, paper products, industrial products and building materials. Most importantly, hemp is nonpsychoactive and cannot get your pet high. Hemp has significant health benefits for pets. Hemp is high in fiber; a great source of plant-based protein; is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids; and contains phytonutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and 20 amino acids. Hemp Seed Oil and Hemp Seed Powder work synergistically with other active ingredients to help provide support for allergies, stress and anxiety, joints, aches and discomfort, the immune system, and overall health and wellness. Twice A Victim: Finding A Path Forward After An Accident getting desperate and they figured I’d jump at a low settlement offer. I almost did.

ach year, hundreds of thousands of Americans are injured in serious accidents. Though the causes may be different, one thing is increasingly common: Because there are often long delays in collecting payments for legitimate insurance claims, injured parties can become “twice victims.”

“With my back against the wall and no place else to turn for financial help, I found a silver lining in LawCash, a leader in the presettlement legal funding industry. The cash advances from LawCash saved my house, gave me the freedom to take care of necessary expenses, and more important, the advances gave me peace of mind to continue to pursue my case. I felt empowered,” Debra added.

An All-Too-Common Story “The bus accident caused serious injury to my right wrist and I broke my left ankle,” said Debra A., a school aide working with disabled children. “During a class trip, the school bus was in an accident and my entire life changed in an instant. While there were safety features on the bus for the children, there were none for the adults. When we crashed, I flew forward and quickly realized I was seriously hurt,” she added. Debra’s injuries were so serious she could not return to work. Soon, she faced mounting medical bills, she was delinquent on her mortgage, and all her general household and family expenses were piling up. She had nowhere to go and no one to turn to for financial support. There were no family members who could loan her money and since she was out of work, no bank would either. Debra was a victim, not once, but twice. She was hurt in the accident and soon thereafter, she was hurting from the financial realities of life. With the assistance of her attorney, Debra sued the bus operator whose insurance company fought her for years. “I never dreamed it would take 10 years for the insurance company to pay me the money I was entitled to,” she said. “Everything I worked for, everything I owned was soon going to be lost because the insurance company was finding every reason not to settle. The most insulting part of it all was that during the entire insurance settlement process, I had the feeling that the insurance company was simply trying to wear me down by offering me much less than my attorney felt my claim was really worth. They probably assumed I was

“Once my case was resolved on terms that were fair, I paid back my legal advance and I was able to move on with my life.” How Presettlement Funding Works The service does not promote or encourage litigation. All its clients must be represented by legal counsel and must have filed a legitimate claim before LawCash will accept an application. Nor does it influence the case, as all decisions related to the legal approach and overall strategy are between the victim and his or her lawyer. Perhaps most important, the presettlement funding is not a loan. If the case is lost, the claimants owe nothing. In addition, they’re not required to put up collateral or make interim payments, and the advance has no effect on their credit. After the accident, Debra was not able to work with her disabled students any longer, but she has not lost her interest in helping others. She is even asking her State Legislators to think about their constituents when considering access to this critical legal funding resource. Why Won’t My Ankle Sprain Heal?

A

s a foot and ankle surgeon, I often hear “It’s just a sprain, no big deal.” Sometimes, however, a sprain can be, or become, serious. Sprained ankles are painful and can temporarily limit a patient’s ability to walk normally, so accurate diagnosis and treatment are necessary for proper healing.

requiring surgery. Sprains not adequately rehabilitated or repeat injuries can cause chronic ankle instability—marked by persistent discomfort and a giving way of the ankle from stretched or torn ligaments. Proper rehabilitation and treatment can strengthen the muscles around the ankle and retrain the tissues within the ankle that affect balance to help prevent further sprains or injuries. Surgery is sometimes also needed.

When a foot and ankle surgeon examines your ankle, he or she can determine the location and severity of the sprain, if the ligament is partially or fully torn, and if there is a broken bone or dislocation of the joint. All this affects treatment and recovery. A bone typically heals in six to eight weeks; a ligament sprain can take three to six months. Most ankle injuries—roughly 80 percent—require no surgical intervention. If just the outer ligament is injured, we can typically reduce pain and swelling with a combination of ice, wraps and rest to lessen the chance of further tearing of the ligament. The other 20 percent of patients might not have sought immediate care, and what began as a less severe sprain may have turned more severe, possibly

hen Danielle and Jimmy returned to their home state after three years in Germany, they spent the next six months looking for their first home.

So how did Danielle and Jimmy manage to buy a more expensive home and have money left over to fix it up? With direction from their loan officer, here’s how they did it:

“Location was so important to us. We got used to walking everywhere while we were in Germany. Grocery stores, restaurants, beer gardens and pubs were all within walking distance of our apartment. We wanted to find a neighborhood like that,” explains Danielle, an employee relations attorney.

1. They were pre-approved before starting the house hunt, so they knew their price range. 2. They used conventional financing with private mortgage insurance, which allowed them to put down 5 percent instead of 20 percent. Their mortgage payment is higher, but still within their monthly budget.

They found the perfect neighborhood: Bay View, Wisconsin. They also found a house in a perfect location, right across from a park, with a lovely view of Lake Michigan.

3. The lower down payment made it possible to buy the more expensive home.

But the house itself wasn’t so perfect: it needed about $20,000 worth of renovations. And the sale price was on the high side of their price range. “We looked at other homes in the neighborhood that were cheaper and in better shape. But we kept coming back to this one. It was in the perfect spot. And when we found out there is a beer garden in the park in summer, it was a done deal!” Danielle says. They successfully closed on the house in January and spent a month painting, installing a new kitchen floor and remodeling the master bath before they

4. Putting less money down also allowed them to keep cash for the renovations. A New Perspective on Robots and How They Will Shape Humanity

T

hroughout the years, technology has improved drastically - creating machines and devices that were unimaginable 50 years ago. And perhaps the most advanced and interesting of society’s technological advancements is robots - but it is also the most misunderstood.

The video series begins with the Imahara visiting the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Machines at Georgia Tech and speaking with the executive director, Dr. Magnus Egerstedt. There, he explores several aspects of robots, such as the basics of the machines, myths and misconceptions, as well as the hopes for, and fears of, the advancement of robot technology.

In fact, according to recent Pew Research, more than 70 percent of Americans express concern about a world in which machines perform many of the tasks done by humans.

In the video, Dr. Egerstedt mentions that robots used to be about mechanical engineering, but now modern robots involve psychology, because these machines will be working along with humans and thus they need to understand people.

Fortunately, there are people who believe humans and robots can coexist and work together in harmony and are working to debunk many of the fears people have about them. Mouser Electronics Inc., a leading semiconductor and electronics component distributor based in Fort Worth, TX, and celebrity engineer Grant Imahara, have teamed up again for the fourth consecutive year for their Empowering Innovation Together program. This year’s program is called Generation Robot, which features five videos filmed across the world, including in the U.S., Germany and Japan. Mouser’s goal is to reach innovators around the globe by showing how robots have a positive impact on humanity and change how people see the possibility of interacting with them. Throughout the Generation Robot series, the entire spectrum of robotics will be examined, as will the understanding of how robots not only have a technological impact on society, but also a social and moral one.

The second video, which takes place in Augsburg, Germany, dives into the real meaning of robots and humans working together, as well as the way this interaction will benefit society. The third video, which comes out in mid-July, will focus on the all-robot-staffed hotel in Nagasaki, Japan, where Imahara investigates the way robots behave utilizing only artificial intelligence. To watch all the videos and learn more about Mouser and Generation Robot, visit https://www.mouser.com/empowering-innovation.

Reading Sunscreen Labels Can Save Your Family’s Health

the skin, and inflammations of the eye, points out the World Health Organization, adding a health issue of growing concern is that UV radiation can reduce the effectiveness of the human immune system.

The Surprising Problem Many parents might be shocked to find that approximately 70 percent of sunscreens—even those labeled kid-friendly—contain harmful chemicals, the most common of which are oxybenzone, octinoxate, avobenzone and octocrylene.

How To Save The Skin You’re In

Considered toxic to humans, they’ve been banned in Hawaii and they can kill coral reefs. “Imagine what they can do to children,” says Lisa Palmer, mother of two and co-founder of a reef-friendly mineral sunscreen and skincare line. Compared to chemical lotions, chemical spray-on sunscreens may be even worse. They can be just as toxic, the fumes linger in the air and you can inhale them, and they’re often flammable. Whether you use spray or lotion, within 20 minutes of applying chemical sunscreen, the toxins enter the bloodstream, are detected in urine, have been known to cause cancer and have been shown to potentially result in kidney and liver dysfunction, and nervous system disorders. That said, you can’t just expose your kids to dangerous ultraviolet (UV) rays, either. Overexposure to UV radiation can lead to skin cancer, premature aging of

“Evidence shows that when kids use sunscreen, we reduce their chances of getting melanoma later in life by 40 percent,” says Palmer. “Using the right sunscreen without any chemicals is the safest thing to do. Many common sunscreen brands claim to be mineral-based, but they still contain avobenzone, a derivative of oxybenzone, which is used as a stabilizer, making the sunscreen just as harmful.” The Environmental Working Group’s website ranks sunscreens so you can see if the one your family uses is safe. TropicSport, made from non-nano zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, key to shielding the skin from the sun’s harmful rays, is at the top. The sunscreen comes in a non-goopy formula that doesn’t leave a ghostly white glow. For best protection from UV rays, use sunscreen every day, regardless of the weather or time of year, apply it 30 minutes before you go out and renew it every two hours and after swimming.
