Changing Your Career?

Consider Becoming a CFP® Professional

Are you thinking of a career change? As you explore new possibilities, you’ll likely want a profession that offers personal fulfillment, encourages professional growth, provides greater opportunities for advancement, thrives in a rapidly expanding industry, and boasts attractive financial benefits.

You’ll find all these benefits and more in a career as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, as well as plenty of resources to help you make the career switch. And financial planning makes use of key skills that you’ve probably developed at previous jobs, including interpersonal communication, relationship management, analysis, marketing and project management.

Becoming a CFP® professional requires earning the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification, which is the standard for competent and ethical financial planning. The CFP® mark after your name signals to clients and employers that you’re a knowledgeable partner who is committed to putting your clients’ interests first.

Earning your CFP® certification provides many advantages:

Competitive Edge: 83% of CFP® professionals say they have a competitive edge over other financial advisors.

Trust: 90% of consumers are more confident working with an advisor who has a financial planning designation.

Success: 86% of CFP® professionals say that certification has had a positive impact on their career satisfaction.

High Pay: Earning CFP® certification can increase your income by 12%, with experienced advisors earning on average $192,000 a year.

The Path to Becoming A CFP® Professional

Becoming a CFP® professional means completing requirements for the “4 E’s”: Education, Exam, Experience, and Ethics.

Education: Complete financial planning coursework through a CFP Board Registered Program and hold a bachelor’s degree or higher (in any discipline) from an accredited college or university. If you have advanced degrees or professional certifications, you may be eligible to skip most of the coursework requirement, allowing you to sit for the CFP® exam sooner.

Exam: Demonstrate your competency in comprehensive personal financial planning by passing the CFP® exam. The 6-hour exam features stand-alone, scenario-based, and case study questions.

Experience: Gain the necessary experience to provide unsupervised personal financial planning services. You can meet this requirement either before or after the CFP® exam by completing 6,000 hours of professional experience related to financial planning or 4,000 hours of apprenticeship

experience that meets additional criteria.

Ethics: Commit to abide by the Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct for CFP® professionals and act as a fiduciary and always prioritize your clients’ best interests when providing financial advice. You Have Questions. We Have Answers.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board) offers many resources to help ensure a seamless transition toward a successful and fulfilling career as a CFP® professional.

CFP Board’s Candidate Forum allows you to connect with other candidates to share experiences and engage with others who are at various stages on their path to CFP® certification. Invaluable mentoring resources can connect you to experienced CFP® professionals who can offer guidance and support. You can also use our library of resources or join upcoming webinars and other events to support your career change.

When you’re ready to start your job search, we can help. The CFP Board Career Center is a free online resource that lists current job and internship opportunities in financial planning. Here you can create your profile, upload your resume, and view open positions for all experience levels.

Your financial planning career awaits. Get started today. -(NewsUSA)

Lip Care is an Important Part of Your Oral Health Routine

Lips are one of the most sensitive organs in the body, composed of more than a million nerves, yet they are often neglected and not treated properly. Without healthy, fully functioning lips, your everyday life would look very different—which is why it’s so important to take the necessary steps to protect them.

Why protect your lips

Lips are the body’s thinnest and most fragile layer of skin, and lack the sweat glands—or sebaceous oil glands—necessary to provide strong protection. This combination of thin skin and lack of natural moisturizing leads to dryness and susceptibility to becoming chapped, especially in drastic weather conditions. Over time, untreated chapped lips could lead to severe oral deterioration and susceptibility to wounds.

As seasons and temperatures change, your lips can be greatly affected if not properly cared for. During the hot summer months, it’s important to protect your lips with lip balm and SPF lip care. Continuous and unprotected sun exposure can cause breakage to the skin barrier and lead them to look aged and discolored, and in some cases, even to oral cancer.

No matter the weather—or your age—it’s important to pay close attention to your lips, and to develop a regular lip care routine to help keep your lips soft, smooth and healthy.

“The lips are one of the most overlooked parts of the body, and ongoing neglect can lead to serious consequences including mouth cancer,” warns Kyle Dosch, DDS, who serves as Delta Dental of Washington’s dental director. “It is important to schedule your twice annual check-ups with your dentist where they perform oral inspections to detect any urgent mouth

issues.”

How can I protect my lips?

Many think that licking your lips provides them with sufficient moisture but, in reality, this actually dries them out even more. To keep your lips hydrated, use a moisturizing lip balm, which can be applied as often as you feel your lips need a hydration boost.

When looking for a good lip balm, check the ingredients for shea butter, which is a great source of moisturization. Also, when choosing a lip balm, check for SPF 30 or SPF 40. Even if it’s not sunny out, there are still strong UVA and UVB rays that can cause more damage to your lips, according to Healthline experts.

Another way to protect your lips is by exfoliating at least once a week using sugar or salt mixed with your preferred nourishing oil, then follow up with a lip balm. Make sure, when exfoliating, you’re not applying too much pressure because you don’t want to break the skin barrier any further.

Your body works in wonderful ways to communicate what it needs, so make sure to listen and look at what it is saying. Following these simple and easy steps will let your lips be full and healthy, which contributes to your overall well-being.

Help Provide Smiles for Today, Hope for Tomorrow

Marine Toys for Tots, which is traditionally known as the flagship children’s Christmastime charity, has evolved into a year-round force for good. The year-round assistance and emotional relief that the organization provides extends beyond the holiday season, because needs aren’t seasonal, and neither is Toys for Tots.

The Program’s year-round distributions reassure families who face adversity and exceptional circumstances that Marine Toys for Tots is committed to delivering messages of hope, restoring and building self-esteem, and inspiring youngsters to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

As schools close for the summer, vulnerable children are at risk of losing many of the educational skills they achieved during the school year because they don’t have access to books and other educational resources outside of the school system.

To help prevent summer learning loss and prepare students for the next school year, the Marine Toys for Tots Program continues its year-round impact through their Spring and Summer initiative – Smiles for Today, Hope for Tomorrow. This initiative provides children access to the learning tools they need to help them maintain their skills and prepare for the new school year.

Through this initiative, Toys for Tots is providing one hundred truckloads of toys, gifts, and educational resources to children in need in communities

across twenty-six states, in partnership with sixty local nonprofit organizations. The support that Toys for Tots continues to provide beyond the holiday season is instrumental in reassuring underprivileged children that they are not forgotten. The Program stands ready to provide emotional relief, comfort, and hope for a brighter future to children in need through distribution events held by local organizations across the Nation.

One such organization, My Joyful Heart, recently distributed toys, books, and games – provided by Toys for Tots – to 1,100 children in the greater Chicago area, along with clothing, hygiene items, and snacks. Summer is often a difficult time for children who don’t have the safety net that school provides, so the items they receive remind them of their tremendous worth and value.

My Joyful Heart’s Director of Operations, Erin Burns, said, “The children will be overjoyed with their gifts, and more importantly, they will be reminded that so many people care.”

The Spring and Summer distribution events are part of Toys for Tots’ commitment to empowering children year-round – giving them gleaming smiles for today and renewed hope for a brighter future tomorrow.

HONORING 50 YEARS OF RIDER EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Motorcycle Safety Foundation Celebrates 50th Anniversary and 10 Million Enrolled

IRVINE, Calif., July 6, 2023 — Millions of motorcycle and scooter riders nationwide and across the U.S. military worldwide got their start through the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, which is celebrating 50 years of rider education and training. MSF, the internationally recognized developer of comprehensive, researched-based rider education curricula, is also celebrating 10 million students enrolled and is honoring its network of coaches across America.

In 1973, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation was established with BSA, HarleyDavidson, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha as founding members. Today, supporters of MSF also include BMW Motorrad, Indian Motorcycle, KTM North America, and Triumph Motorcycles.

“We are deeply indebted to the sponsors and supporters of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation — especially those that convened years ago to establish this organization and invest in developing science- and research-based curriculum,” said Erik Pritchard, president and CEO of MSF. “Every rider on the road has benefited from this visionary commitment.”

“Since its founding, MSF has developed curricula for riders of all levels seeking to learn and improve their skills whether they are riding on- or off-road. And as the times, technologies, and trends change, MSF remains committed to providing the best-in-class curricula so that every rider — beginner to experienced, street, dirt, and adventure — can find the type of training that helps them ride their best.”

Training sites across the country are helping to celebrate MSF’s 50th by hosting MSF RIDE Day events, which offer MOTO Intro experiences for people looking to get their first taste of riding, and SKILLS Check sessions for current riders to assess their skills.

“For people curious about motorcycling but are not sure they are ready to commit to a class, the MOTO Intro is a great way to try it out,” Pritchard said. “Motorcycles, helmets, and one-on-one coaching is provided to participants. The entire experience takes about 30 minutes, and the coach will help the rider progress at their own pace.”

“SKILLS Check is a fun way for experienced riders to see how well they can do in one of the MSF’s more advanced drills on their own motorcycles,” Pritchard continued. “And it introduces them to the additional training that is available to help them sharpen their skills.” MOTO Intro and SKILLS

Check participants can also sign up for relevant classes after the event.

The heart of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation is the team of 10,000 RiderCoaches, DirtBike School Coaches, site administrators, program managers, and others in the MSF training community whose hard work has helped millions of people realize their dream of riding.

“Our success over the last 50 years is only possible because of our training community’s dedication to teaching generations of riders,” said Robert Gladden, vice president of operations for MSF.

MSF is also sharing 50 stories from 50 riders as a way to help celebrate this milestone year. These pieces — by teachers, mothers, fathers, RiderCoaches, journalists, entertainers, and more — can be found on the Motorcycle Safety Foundation website under “Stories,” and on Instagram @msf__usa. Riders and RiderCoaches are encouraged to share their own stories using #MSF50YearsOfSafety when posting to social media.

(Diane Mulligan) - Lung cancer is the deadliest of all major cancers, with Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC) patients having a significantly lower survival rate than non-small cell lung cancer patients (NSCLC).

In 2012, the National Cancer Institute identified SCLC as a top priority. More targeted and personalized treatments are expected to be released soon. There are also many clinical trials focusing on SCLC. The new research is leading to new treatments and new hope, which can’t come quickly enough for SCLC patients.

SCLC is different from NSCLC, which is the most common form of lung cancer. It is the most aggressive form of lung cancer and the one most closely associated with smokers. The SCLC tumors morph as they try to survive. They change their form, trying to hide from the current treatment.

Lung cancer researchers are now focused on treatments that target specific tumors.

Dr. Sen

Dr. Triparna Sen, Associate Professor at Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai Health System says, “Do we have targets? Yes, we do have targets. Do they look promising? Yes, they do look promising. It will not be one size fits all.”

Most SCLC patients are treated with chemotherapy, but there have been recent advances in using immunotherapy along with chemotherapy. Patients who

have finished their initial treatment now have new options and should talk to their doctor about new treatments being researched in clinical trials. In most of these trials, one set of patients receives the latest approved treatment while the other set receives the treatment being researched.

According to Lung Cancer Foundation of America Founder Kim Norris, “These clinical trials are where patients are getting the gold standard of care. They may be receiving the treatments of tomorrow, today.”

It was only last year when the first SCLC treatment breakthrough was announced. Then researchers identified a subset of SCLC patients who appear to respond to drugs that are already proven cancer fighters; the proteins in the tumors of these patients make them more receptive to targeted therapies.

The Lung Cancer Foundation of America provides initial funding to young investigators who are studying all types of lung cancer. The group was organized after the co-founder, Kim Norris, realized that although it was the deadliest of all the major cancers, lung cancer received the least amount of federal funding in relation to other major cancers.

Norris says, “It’s that funding that allows the best and brightest young investigators to choose to study lung cancer.”
