Message from the President Thank you for joining us as we celebrate the Holidays and honor outstanding members of the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Eastern Connecticut. I am very honored and proud to have served as your President for the past year. This is my second term as President, and it has been a pleasure to see how the organization has grown between my terms.

Our membership has been growing this year, we have heard from members they want more education offerings.

We have introduced more education sessions this year and members will see many more in 2024. We have launched a new web site this year and implemented a new membership database that will provide members with more resources and ways to connect with the HBRA. This year we also celebrated our largest golf tournament ever, and tonight we finish the year with a Gala that surpassed our expectations with attendees and sponsors.

The HBRA of Eastern Connecticut has tremendous resources for our members at the local, state and national level. I encourage you to take advantage of these resources that are available to help your business as we are faced with increasing regulations, legislative challenges, high interest rates and supply chain issues. Rest assured your Association is working on all these issues on your behalf.

I want to thank our Board of Directors and Committee Members who have invested their time and resources into this Association this year to help us continue to grow.

Special Guest: Greg Ugalde, Past Chairman NAHB The Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Eastern Connecticut is proud to welcome Greg Ugalde, past Chairman of NAHB and the first builder from New England to serve in that role.

Greg was NAHB’s 2019 Chairman of the Board. Ugalde is president and chief legal officer of Torrington-based T&M Building Co. Inc., and is the founder and owner of GFU Investments, LLC. He has been active in NAHB leadership at the local, state and national levels throughout his career. A life delegate, Ugalde has served on numerous NAHB committees, was a member of several association task force groups, served as vice chairman of the budget and finance committee as well as chairman of BUILD-PAC and three other committees.

Builder of the Year

Matt Gilchrist, EG Home Matt has built EG Home with the insights he gained while working for large national builders and incorporating his own philosophy of partnering with his subcontractors and suppliers to provide the best possible experience for his customers.

Matt and his team strive to provide the highest level of fit and function at the best possible price for their customers. EG Home treats each customer and trade partner with respect and when challenged with a question he will ask his staff, “if this was your home, what would you want done here?” EG Home has built two communities in Mystic and is starting a new project in Pawcatuck.

Matt began his career serving our country in the United States Navy. Matt earned the rank of Lieutenant and served in Navy Special Operations and was an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Technician. Matt served in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, and was decorated with a Bronze Star and several other individual commendations for his service.
