THE CORNWALL HI-FI & HOME CINEMA SHOW 2024
The Cornwall Hi-Fi Show was born in 2018 out of a desire to offer a local specialist event that is centred around hi-fi, home cinema and premium audio. At the time, the nearest hi-fi show was the annual Bristol event, which meant a drive of 2-3 hours each way to attend. Given that we already dealt with a large range of brands, we were sure that we would be able to put on a show that satisfied even the most dedicated hi-fi enthusiast!
That first show was a great success. Running in the Pavilion Centre at the Royal Cornwall Showground, it was local enough for visitors from all across Cornwall and Devon and was brilliantly supported by all of our key hi-fi brands. Since then, we have never looked back and the only year we missed was 2020 as the Covid-19 pandemic
scuppered our plans. Each year we have listened to feedback from attendees, staff and the brands and each year we have delivered an event that is bigger and better than the previous year. We are now offering more brands, more product and even selling records with our friends at Outback Vinyl!
This year’s show will be no exception and sees the biggest improvement yet; we have almost double the exhibition space available with the addition of a brand new TV Tent which gives us - and more specifically, the TV brands - an extra 250m² of display space. Consequently, the show has been re-branded slightly to include “Home Cinema”, reflecting the greater presence of TV and home cinema demonstrations.

Welcome to the Cornwall Hi-Fi and Home Cinema Show 2024! We’re excited to showcase the latest in audio and visual technology, and we hope you enjoy the experience as much as we’ve enjoyed organising it. As our Wadebridge store manager and the lead organiser, it’s been amazing to see this event grow. Our goal is to bring you the latest products, including UK and world-first showings, while maintaining the personal touch of our family-run business.
This year, we’ve expanded the show with new brand partners such as Chord, Loewe, Sennheiser, and more, along with returning favourites like Monitor Audio and Samsung. Don’t miss our new 250m² TV Tent exhibition space! We believe music and film have the power to transport and inspire, and we’re here to help you find the perfect products to enhance your experience, whether you’re building a new collection or upgrading your current setup.

Hi, I’m Dan! You might recognise me from our social media feeds as the “GOOD NEWS!” guy. My role involves organising and creating content for our marketing materials and social media, while also supporting Geoff with the show and coordinating with brand representatives.
I’m very lucky to have my colleague Sophie in head office support me with all of our content creation, managing when posts go out, newsletter scheduling and all in all making my life a lot easier. My passion for music began when I joined the company for the opening of our St Austell store. A visit from a KEF ambassador showed me that music is more than sound - it’s an emotional experience, with every listener connecting to it in their own way. Whether it’s the song from your wedding or a film score, music evokes powerful memories.
Personally, I’m a huge fan of film soundtracks. My wife often catches me listening to them with my eyes closed, fully immersed in the experience. This year, I’m most excited about all the new products we’re showcasing.
There’s so much to explore and you might find me at the show, listening to Interstellar on the latest systems! I hope you enjoy the show.

HBH Woolacotts is a local, family-run electrical retailer selling and servicing a wide range of appliances across Cornwall and Devon. From humble beginnings with two stores in Bude and Launceston in 1976, over the years our business has grown and developed to 9 locations – including electrical superstores in St Austell and Plymouth. We even opened the UK’s first Panasonic Technics Centre (now rebranded to Panasonic Store) in Plymouth – which is now incorporated into our Plymouth superstore, alongside Plymouth’s Sony Centre.

Whilst we are predominantly known for televisions and home appliances, a lot of people don’t realise that a big part of our heritage is in hi-fi, vinyl & premium audio and once upon a time, this played a much bigger role in our business. With the resurgence in popularity of 2-channel - and particularly vinyl - we’ve been able to renew our focus on these areas. The Cornwall Hi-Fi & Home Cinema Show is now an annual fixture in the calendar and we also have dedicated rooms in Wadebridge, Plymouth, and St Austell where customers can immerse themselves in true audiophile products, in a space that is separate to our busy electrical retail store.
PLYMOUTH SHOWROOM
Our flagship Superstore is located at Coypool Retail Park just off the A38 in Plymouth and, as the largest independent electrical superstore in the South West, it boasts an incredible 22,000sqft of retail space and a range of products that vary from TV/AV to home appliance and built-in kitchens.
While there is a selection of audio and hi-fi products at the front of the store, this only tells part of the story. Hidden at the back, almost in secret, is a dedicated h-fi and home cinema room that is packed full of the very latest 2-channel electronics, speakers, home cinema systems and headphones. The different look and feel to this space has been carefully designed to take customers away from a busy retail shop and into a world of sound and design, in a calming and relaxed environment.
Throughout the store, most of the products are set up and ready for demonstration as we believe it’s vital that customers can see, listen and experience the products they are interested in, so they can make the best decision possible. All audio areas are set up to demo products ranging from cables and styluses, to amplifiers and turntables or hi-fi furniture. The store also features 4 full home cinema systems that are set up and ready for demonstration.

ALEX FOXON - THIRD TIME’S A CHARM FOR DALI AND LYNGDORF
My relationship with HBH Woolacotts goes back more years than I’d care to admit – let’s just say it was back when Oasis were still together and the world had never heard of Covid19.
When you’ve had that kind of long-term business partnership, certain things just feel second nature. Take the Cornwall HiFi Show, for example. This part of the country has always been home to a bedrock of passionate audio enthusiasts, so when the Woolacotts team approached me about exhibiting here, there was only ever going to be one answer.
Finding the right venue for an audio show can be a massive challenge, and I know firsthand how difficult that process can be. After a long and likely frustrating search, the organisers settled on The Cornwall Showground Pavilion, which has turned out to be a perfect fit. It offers easy access for visitors and, just as important, simplicity for exhibitors when it comes to loading and unloading. Add to that the “nothing’s too much trouble” attitude of the management, and it’s clear the choice was a stroke of genius.
This year, I’m returning for the third time, bringing along my brands, DALI Loudspeakers and Lyngdorf Audio—both hailing from Denmark, a country that could easily be considered HiFi Nirvana. I’m looking forward to playing some great music and welcoming visitors to my “Eagle’s Nest” demo room located upstairs. The new range from DALI, the Rubikore, is proving to be a real stunner and I can’t wait to unleash them for you all.
Last year, I was honoured to receive the award for bestsounding demo room, an accolade that meant a lot, especially as it was the inaugural “Adrian Dykes Award,” named after a man who was truly one of the kindest and warmest souls in our HiFi community. Always impeccably dressed and with a smile on his face, Adrian is deeply missed but fondly remembered by all of us—despite his unwavering support for Leeds United!
I can’t wait to welcome everyone back to my room and hope the show is as lively and enjoyable as ever. All of my fellow exhibitors and the Woolacotts team work incredibly hard to make this event a success, bringing the finest in sound and vision from all corners of the world, right here to Cornwall.

Designed to let customers experience products in a calm and relaxed environment, it’s easy to forget that you’re in a busy electrical store during a demonstration.
Packed full of the latest products from the brands that we work with, we’ve managed to put a huge variety into this space and everything is set up in such a way that not only is it demo ready, products can also be interchanged to demo almost any combination. You can also demo the Dolby Atmos home theatre system, showcased complete with ceiling speakers and a huge OLED TV. And for those perfect finishing touches, a wide selection of hi-fi accessories are available, from cables to cartridges.

HBH Woolacotts, St Austell was our original superstore and our first foray into out-of-town retailing. We opened the St Austell superstore in 2012 just outside of St Austell, and it boasts an impressive 18,000sqft of retail space. Our aim was to create a store that showcased the very best that our business and the brands that we work with have to offer.
Following a refit during 2020 and the recent success of 2-channel hi-fi & home cinema, we moved the “HiFi Corner” towards the front of the shop so it’s clearly visible from the entrance and closer to the other audio and TV areas. Finished with stylish wooden displays and bespoke lighting, this space is distinctly different to the rest of the store, offering a calm, relaxed environment to hear and experience products away from the hustle and bustle of a busy electrical store.

BEST IN SHOW AWARDA TRIBUTE TO AN INDUSTRY LEGEND
There has been a “Best in Show” award every year at the Cornwall hi-fi show, with a different brand winning every year so far. This accolade is always presented on the 2nd morning of the show.
In true hi-fi style, this is completely subjective. Consequently, we try to base this on a combination of consultation between the organisers and customer feedback - including reactions and interactions at the show. We look at how creatively the brands have used their space to bring their displays to life, but also how the products look and sound – ultimately deciding which room offers the best experience.
Last year the award was renamed “The Adrian Dykes Award” as a tribute to a true industry legend. Adrian passed away suddenly in 2023. He was the embodiment of hi-fi and had been working with HBH Woolacotts for over 20 years. He had huge passion for his products, a massive personality and was a true gentleman - a
phenomenal human being. You knew he was around, even if you hadn’t seen him yet. He would always make the time to see you, to pass on his wisdom – and you couldn’t help but stop to listen.
From our very first show in 2018, Adrian was one of our biggest supporters and won the award himself in the early years of the show. It therefore seems fitting that the best in show award is now named after him. His legacy will be part of the show for many years to come.
DALI & Lyngdorf scooped the award in 2023 and there’s a note from Alex in this programme because of this. With more brands this year than ever, it will be even harder to choose a winner, but it’s something we all look forward to.

DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
I’m Chris Hemmerle and I’m one of the Directors at HBH Woolacotts. A large part of my role is advertising and marketing so I work closely with Geoff & Dan to bring the Hi-Fi Show to life and make it an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
The idea was first formed in 2017 when Geoff and Dan suggested a Hi-Fi event within the newly refitted Wadebridge store. They felt this would be a good way to engage customers and the brands stocked in their brand new hi-fi room. This quickly escalated to an exhibition at the Royal Cornwall Showground and the Cornwall Hi-Fi (and Home Cinema) Show was born.
What I’m looking forward to the most at this year’s show is seeing how the new TV Tent works; as the show has grown and evolved, we’ve been looking for ways to expand the venue whilst also retaining the location and hospitality afforded by the Royal Cornwall Showground, so we’re quite excited that we’ve got a solution. There are also going to be a number of product launches, UK first showings and opportunities to experience new products, so this is always exciting and is one of the best parts of the job.
Personally, I’ve got a family of 5 that keep me busy outside of work and my passions are surfing and squash.
I hope that you’ve enjoyed the show and our first ever official programme. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Geoff and Dan for organising the event, as the management team this really is beyond their job description and it’s become an important annual event for us.
