BUILDING HISTORY: From left to right: Jon Showalter, Louis Dickerson, Linwood Strickland, and Brant Chesson share stories and reflections on the history of Homes by Dickerson

It began with a bold idea in 1975: to build homes that were more than structures, homes that told the stories of the people who lived in them With that vision, Louis Dickerson founded Homes by Dickerson, setting a purpose that was clear from the start That same year, the company earned its first Wake County Parade of Homes award, affirming Louis’s belief that excellence, craftsmanship, and heart would set us apart
In the early years, Homes by Dickerson was a small, local company built on strong personal relationships. Louis not only designed and built homes, he also developed land, laying the foundation for a trusted reputation in the Raleigh community. As leadership eventually transitioned to Linwood Strickland, a new chapter began. Linwood elevated the brand with a strategic plan that guided growth while preserving the company’s founding values. In 2004, Brant Chesson joined the team, bringing fresh vision and leadership. Today, as President and CEO, Brant continues to carry that legacy forward.
For fifty years, we have held fast to the belief that no two homes should ever be alike Every residence is designed with intention, ensuring it reflects the lifestyle and aspirations of its owners Our guiding principles of Service, Design, Commitment, Quality, Craftsmanship, and Flexibility have influenced every decision, both in seasons of growth and during times of challenge These values remind us that we are not only builders but also stewards of the trust our clients place in us.
We take pride in details others may overlook. From sustainable building practices to innovative floor plans, every choice is made with care and purpose. In 2006, we built our first Energy Star-certified home, underscoring our commitment to environmental responsibility. Just as importantly, we remain a true custom home builder, offering clients a personalized design experience guided by our professional interior designers. Each home becomes a one-of-a-kind reflection of its owners, crafted with sustainability, craftsmanship, and care for the communities we serve.

Today, as we celebrate our 50th anniversary and our 50th Parade of Homes, we look back with gratitude and forward with anticipation We have grown from a small local builder into a company with thriving divisions in Raleigh, Charleston, Pinehurst, and Eastern North Carolina Along the way, we have earned national recognition, built award-winning homes, and expanded our reach Yet our heart remains the same

We are still privately owned We are still deeply committed to our clients, our partners, and our communities And we are still passionate about creating homes that are as unique as the people who live in them Every home we build is a reflection of our client’s vision, crafted with precision and care by some of the most talented professionals in the industry

As we look toward the next fifty years, our promise is to continue blending tradition with innovation. We will remain dedicated to quality, sustainability, and timeless design, while also embracing new ideas and technologies that allow us to better serve our clients. For us, the story is far from over. It is still being written one family, one home, and one community at a time.
For fifty years, we have built more than houses. We have built stories, legacies, and places where life unfolds. And we are just getting started.
Our journey has been guided by resilience and vision. In the 1980s, leadership passed from Louis Dickerson to Linwood Strickland, whose direction fueled growth The 1990s formalized our client-first approach with the launch of our Client Care department and manual
The 2000s brought challenges, but we thrived during the housing recession by strengthening accountability, bringing sales in-house, and expanding market share We launched our first community, welcomed new leaders, and reinforced our commitment to sustainability
By the 2010s, we were reaching new heights, and by 2015 we celebrated 100 closings in a year National recognition came in 2016 when we were chosen to build the HGTV Smart Home, a testament to our innovation and craftsmanship
The years that followed brought record growth and community impact We expanded into Charleston, Pinehurst, and Eastern NC and stayed focused on what mattered most our families and communities
In 2023, we partnered with the Raleigh Dream Center to build a home for their Community of Hope project, reinforcing our belief that homebuilding is also about creating hope and belonging

The Triangle Parade of Homes is a season our team looks forward to each year. It is a moment when our designers and builders step into the spotlight, sharing not only finished homes but also the heart, innovation, and imagination behind them For us, these homes are more than walls and rooflines They are canvases where bold ideas come alive, where risks in design and detail can flourish, and where the stories we want to tell are finally revealed.

been just about showcasing houses It has always been about showcasing heart, dedication, and culture From the earliest days of the company, when deadlines loomed and resources were tight, the Parade was the proving ground that brought out the very best in our people As our founder Louis Dickerson recalled, “We never looked at a deadline or date and said, ‘I can’t do it ’ Our mindset was always that we were going to get it done, no matter what ” That relentless determination became the DNA of our company
Former President Linwood Strickland echoed the same spirit: “It was always about going the extra mile to get it done ” In many ways, that simple truth explains why the Parade became more than an annual event It became part of who we are Each year, our team leaned into the challenge, learning how to balance creativity with precision, urgency with craftsmanship, and vision with execution Those lessons shaped not only the homes we built but also the culture we live by today
Current President and CEO, Brant Chesson, reflected on how that legacy continues: “Even though Louis has been away from the company for many years, we still feel the responsibility to carry on that legacy, the same one Linwood picked up and passed to us, and we continue to do that today Linwood’s passion was especially evident in the nights before the Parade of Homes, and we learned many lessons from those experiences about how to execute our homes We have passed that knowledge to our team, and it is clear that this commitment has become part of our culture At Homes by Dickerson, we believe each home tells a story, a story that will be filled with someone’s life Our parade homes, in particular, reflect that belief as they showcase the creativity of our designers and the dedication of our production team to bring each vision to life ”
ws up in every detail of the Parade months in advance, with designers on boards and sharing concepts that vity As one of our designers, Gretchen he Parade of Homes to me means ” From there, production teams step in, reality through months of focus and he final stage, staging, branding, and forms each home into an experience, ital journey

And while awards and recognition are a highlight, we proudly won our first Parade award in 1975, the truest measure of success is seeing visitors light up with inspiration, or watching a family fall in love with a home that becomes the backdrop of their life story. The Parade is more than a showcase; it is our heartbeat. It represents the collaboration, resilience, and creativity that have defined Homes by Dickerson for 50 years. As we celebrate our 50th Parade, we carry forward the same spirit that has always defined us: the belief that every home tells a story, and every story matters.

The Jubilee House is a breathtaking blend of legacy and innovation, designed to honor fifty years of Homes by Dickerson’s craftsmanship. Inspired by the European countryside, its Tudor arches, brass finishes, and soft green accents create a story of timeless sophistication. From the courtyard with its stone fireplace and sparkling pool to the skylit kitchen and spa-like primary suite, every detail reflects elegance and intention. More than a home, The Jubilee House is a milestone creation, celebrating heritage while embracing modern comfort for generations to come.

“FIFTY YEARS IN, WE STILL BELIEVE IN GETTING IT RIGHT NO SHORTCUTS, NO EXCUSES JUST CRAFTSMANSHIP, COMMITMENT, AND CARE.”
The Jubilee House was designed as a living celebration of Homes by Dickerson’s fifty years of craftsmanship, innovation, and custom homebuilding. From the moment you step inside, the home tells a story of legacy and vision. A private courtyard with a stone fireplace and marble flooring blurs the line between indoors and outdoors, while a sparkling pool glimmers just beyond Inside, skylight windows flood the expansive kitchen with natural light, a full video wall animates the media room, and whole-home smart technology elevates everyday living. Every corner is curated with care, from the walk-in shower and sauna in the primary suite to the custom lighting that highlights each architectural detail

“Fifty years in, we still believe in getting it right No shortcuts, no excuses Just craftsmanship, commitment, and care,” says designer Katherine Trogdon. Her vision for The Jubilee House was inspired by the European countryside, with nods to traditional village architecture and layers of timeless sophistication Tudor arches carry through the design, refined brass finishes add a sense of history with their living patina, and pops of green bring cohesion across wallpapers, fabrics, paint colors, and tile. The build itself was entrusted to Senior Project Manager Mike Mehringer, whose leadership brought the vision to life “A home like this is built on trust, teamwork, and a relentless focus on detail,” Mehringer reflects. “It is an honor to play a role in creating something that stands as both a milestone and a masterpiece ”

At its heart, The Jubilee House is about joy, celebration, and honoring the milestones that have defined five decades of design. Rich wood tones and soft natural palettes reflect the influence of the surrounding landscape, while curated textures and silhouettes create a sense of timeless character. “We design with intention, knowing that Raleigh has been built over centuries and what we build today becomes part of that future,” Trogdon adds This home transcends the Parade stage, serving as a tribute to timeless craftsmanship, artistic vision, and the care invested in every detail.

Belvedere Hall is a Tudor-inspired retreat that captures the romance of old-world design while embracing the comforts of modern living. Diamond-patterned tile, walnut-paneled fireplaces, and soft arches tell a story of timeless craftsmanship woven with intention. Gentle hues of green and beige, layered textures, and garden views create an atmosphere of warmth and nostalgia. More than a home, Belvedere Hall is a sanctuary of elegance and perspective, offering beauty that endures across generations.

“I AM EXCITED FOR YOU TO SEE THE INTRICATE DETAILS OF THIS HOME THAT GIVE YOU THE FEELING OF READING AN OLD, FORGOTTEN LETTER.”
- GRETCHEN CARHART, DESIGNER
Welcome to Belvedere Hall, a timeless Tudor retreat whose name is drawn from the Latin words bellus and videri “ a beautiful sight ” Thoughtfully situated on Bivins Street, this home captures the art of perspective, offering spaces that celebrate light, garden views, and enduring charm From the moment you enter, details unfold like chapters in a story: the diamond-patterned tile in the foyer reflects traditional Tudor windows, while this motif carries quietly throughout the home, reappearing in the scullery’s tilework and lending continuity to every space Each element has been chosen with intention, crafting a home that feels rooted in history while inviting a new legacy.

Inside, rich walnut paneling surrounds the fireplace and extends into the library, where French doors open to a hidden garden. “I am excited for you to see the intricate details of this home that give you the feeling of reading an old, forgotten letter,” says designer Gretchen Carhart That sense of romantic nostalgia is heightened by an English garden wallpaper in the owner’s entry, soft green accents, and a warm palette of natural beiges Every finish and flourish was carefully selected to evoke a sense of timeless craftsmanship and old-world elegance, creating a retreat that feels both sophisticated and welcoming.
Belvedere Hall was brought to life under the steady guidance of Superintendent Cam White, whose oversight ensured that every detail reflected the home’s vision. His craftsmanship, paired with the artistry of design, created a residence that transcends structure to become something truly special This is a home where history and modern life meet, drawing on centuries of architectural tradition while embracing the comforts of today. Belvedere Hall stands as a sanctuary of beauty and perspective, offering timeless elegance and enduring charm for generations to come

Galloway Grange is a pastoral retreat inspired by Pittsboro’s rolling hills and enduring traditions. Rooted in the character of old English farmhouses, it blends rustic charm with modern comfort to create a sanctuary both familiar and refined. Inside, rich textures, warm tones, and thoughtful details offer elegance and depth, while quiet nooks and custom touches invite rest and connection. More than a residence, Galloway Grange is a celebration of heritage and harmony, where community and comfort come together beautifully.

“IT HAS BEEN SUCH A JOY BRINGING THIS VISION TOGETHER FOR THE COMMUNITY, AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU TO TAKE A STEP INSIDE THIS SPACE DURING THE PARADE OF HOMES.”
In the heart of Pittsboro, near the storied Fearrington Village, sits Galloway Grange, a home that draws its inspiration from the pastoral beauty and agricultural traditions of the region. Its very name honors the Belted Galloways, the iconic cattle of Pittsboro, and evokes the timeless rhythm of rolling hills, grazing livestock, and enduring rural life Designed in the spirit of an old English farmhouse, Galloway Grange feels as though it has always belonged to the landscape. Tucked peacefully into its setting, it embodies both history and community, offering a place where modern comfort and pastoral charm come together

Stepping inside, the home reveals warm tones, layered textures, and thoughtful details that balance bold design with inviting softness “I designed this space to feel both bold and soft,” shares designer Abigail Taylor “Traditional elements are woven through every corner, creating a rustic sense of warmth.” Rich wood cabinetry and striking countertops anchor the kitchen, while quiet reading nooks and custom built-in bookcases invite moments of retreat Throughout the home, soft gold finishes, patterned wallpaper, and textured surfaces lend depth and character, while the screened porch celebrates the community gatherings that define Pittsboro life

WENDELL FALLS

“FOR THE INSPIRATION, I ENVISIONED A GROUP OF CLOSE FRIENDS GATHERING AROUND THE KITCHEN ISLAND OR PORCH AND FILLING EACH OTHER IN ON THEIR WEEKS. SO IN OTHER WORDS, SPILLING THE TEA.”
- TURNER HAIRR, DESIGNER
Spill the Tea is a home inspired by connection, designed for moments of laughter and conversation shared with family and friends. From the start, Designer Turner Hairr envisioned close friends gathering around the kitchen island or relaxing on the screened porch, filling each other in on their weeks. That sense of warmth and camaraderie is woven into the very character of the home The two-story foyer sets the stage with a welcoming presence, while soft arched doorways, intimate nooks, and tongue-and-groove accents create a rhythm of comfort and charm throughout.

The style of Spill the Tea blends rustic French country elegance with the small-town Southern charm of Wendell, North Carolina. Wide-plank mid-tone flooring flows across the first floor, grounding the home in timeless appeal A twostory kitchen filled with natural light serves as its heart, featuring a quartz countertop backsplash with a ledge in place of traditional tile and a thoughtful mix of cabinet colors in alabaster, river rock, and mid-tone stain Sage green accents appear throughout the design, from the powder room’s wallpaper and wainscot ceiling to the primary bathroom’s two-tone shower tile. Metals in matte black and brushed brass layer in subtle sophistication, while a diagonal checkerboard floor from the powder room to the laundry room adds a playful touch of tradition reimagined.
The build was entrusted to Superintendent Lee Ely, whose steady craftsmanship ensured every detail came together seamlessly The result is a home that feels both fresh and familiar, modern yet timeless. “I wanted this year’s parade home to be inviting and welcoming, but also unlike anything people have seen time after time,” says Hairr Spill The Tea embodies that vision, offering a sanctuary where design, comfort, and storytelling meet, creating a place where life’s everyday moments feel worth celebrating.
