ABOUT THE BUILDER

Homes By Dickerson has been building custom homes in the Raleigh area since 1975. Founded by Louis Dickerson, the company quickly made a name for itself by entering and winning its first Parade of Homes entry that same year. In 1984, Linwood Strickland joined the company and later became the next owner in the 1990s. Recognizing the competitive nature of the Triangle’s growing housing market, Linwood introduced innovative practices, including the creation of a dedicated Client Care Department and the development of the company’s first client care manual. He also wrote the first business plan, setting a clear vision for future growth.

Jon Showalter, our current COO, began his journey with Homes By Dickerson as a builder in the mid-1990s. In 2004, Brant Chesson, now our CEO, joined the team. During the challenging period of the 2008 housing recession, Brant initiated a strategic transition into ownership of the company. Under his leadership, Homes By Dickerson adapted by focusing on realtor and buyer outreach, ultimately gaining market share and positioning the company for long-term success.

In 2009, we built our first National Green Built Certified home, marking the beginning of our ongoing commitment to high-performance, energy-efficient homes. This approach underscores our belief in building not just beautiful homes, but homes that stand the test of time—ensuring our clients receive the best quality for their investment. Fast forward to 2025, we are proud to have built over 6,000 homes and expanded into four divisions across two states.

Our accomplishments over the past 50 years include:

Over 200 Parade of Homes entries with numerous awards

Multiple MAME Builder of the Year wins

Being named Builder of the Year by the Home Builders Association on several occasions

Serving as the builder for the 2011 Duke Children's Miracle Home charity

Building the 2016 HGTV Smart Home

Building and donating a home to the Raleigh Dream Center

Throughout our history, we have stayed true to our founding principles: Service, Design, Commitment, Quality, Craftsmanship, and Flexibility. These core values guide every decision we make and every home we build. We are proud to be a locally owned, private company dedicated to fostering lasting relationships with our clients, vendors, and the communities we serve.

At Homes By Dickerson, we take pride in never building the same home twice. Every home is a unique reflection of our clients' dreams, built with meticulous attention to detail by some of the most talented professionals in the industry. As we celebrate our 50th year in 2025, we remain committed to excellence, innovation, and the legacy of quality craftsmanship that has defined us for half a century.
