For fifty years, Homes by Dickerson has shaped communities with artistry, integrity, and individuality. What began in 1975 as a small, locally owned builder in Raleigh has grown into one of the most trusted names in custom home design throughout the Carolinas. Today, our homes can be found across the Triangle, Pinehurst, Charleston, and Eastern North Carolina—each one a reflection of our dedication to thoughtful design and enduring craftsmanship.
Rooted in service, guided by design, and committed to our clients, we believe no two homes or homeowners are alike. That is why we never build the same home twice. Each residence is a one-of-a-kind expression of vision and lifestyle, brought to life with precision and
care by some of the most talented professionals in the industry. Our founding principles— Service, Design, Commitment, Quality, Craftsmanship, and Flexibility— continue to shape every decision we make and every home we create.
Our story began with Louis Dickerson, whose vision of thoughtful homebuilding soon earned recognition in the Wake County Parade of Homes. Through the decades, leadership evolved and the company grew, but our purpose never wavered—each home must be as unique as the people who live within its walls. From Raleigh to Charleston and Pinehurst to Eastern North Carolina, our journey has been one of growth, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to our craft.
Our journey is marked by milestones that shaped both our company and the communities we serve:
1975: Homes by Dickerson is founded; our very first Parade of Homes award is earned.
1984–1994: A new generation of leadership emerges with Linwood Strickland, joined by longtime team member Jon Showalter.
1998: A bold business plan lays the foundation for growth and design-driven service.
2006–2008: Amid a national recession, HBD perseveres with resilience, building its first Energy Star-certified home and committing to sustainable practices.
2011: We proudly build the Duke Children’s Miracle Home, a testament to our community spirit.
2016: National recognition arrives as we are chosen to build the HGTV Smart Home.
2018–2024: Expansion into Charleston, Pinehurst, and Eastern North Carolina, while continuing to earn industry honors and build homes of impact, including a partnership with the Raleigh Dream Center.
2025: Fifty years of homebuilding excellence, innovation, and legacy.
Over the years, Homes by Dickerson has entered more than 200 Triangle Parade of Homes showcases, received multiple MAME Builder of the Year awards, and been named Builder of the Year by the Home Builders Association. But beyond the accolades, our greatest honor remains the trust of the families we serve.
Our legacy is not measured in homes alone, but in relationships. Privately owned and North Carolina-based, we’ve built enduring partnerships with clients, Realtors, trade partners, and community leaders. These bonds, like the homes we build, are designed to last.
As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we reflect on five decades of passion and perseverance. Yet, we also look forward—with a promise to continue blending innovation with timeless quality, sustainability with artistry, and vision with craftsmanship.
