Chairperson’s Message by Rick Willet
With the summer heating up, most of you are probably very busy. Of course, there is always the unknown question, “Will housing and remodeling stay strong? And for how long?” For now, most everything we look at shows that remodeling will stay very healthy this year and in the near future, barring any catastrophes. A recent Bankrate.com survey found that 62% of current homeowners do not ever plan to move. Another 17% of existing homeowners don’t plan to move for at least five years. About 35% of homeowners say they are likely to remodel their current home in the next five years. Homeowners are realizing long-term investing in their homes is a greater benefit than short-term investing. With the tight housing market and low inventory, prices continue to rise. This results in existing homeowners having more equity to use for upgrades and home improvements. Since money they invest in remodeling their homes will take longer to recover, they are more willing to do a project sooner than later. With these factors and many others, the future of remodeling should stay very positive.
