President’s Message Beau Daffer, HBAL President

It's hard to believe it is March. Every warm day we get this time of year is one less cold day we have to deal with. It has been amazing to see all the exterior work and concrete being poured this time of year.

As we all know, February is Home & Garden Show month for HBAL. And as usual, our amazing staff put on another great show! We had several new participants and the buildings felt full with a lot of diversity in all the different booths. In addition to the booths, we made a nice donation to the Food Bank of Lincoln.

There was also the High School Residential & Interior Design Contest. This is a wonderful way to get young people and their families to become more familiar with HBAL. It truly is a staple in our community and I heard nothing but great feedback.

I will leave you with a little motivation....

Tell us about your family. Maureen, my high school sweetheart and wife. We have two daughters: Molly and Erin; sons-inlaw: David and Stephen and grandkids: Jack, Maddie and Ronnie. We spend a lot of time together as we all live in the Omaha Area. I know how lucky that is for us in this day and age!

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? I played in the Cornhusker Marching Band and now play in the Alumni Band each year. I still get Husker Bumps marching in front of 80,000+ fans at halftime!

What are your future goals and aspirations for your career? Mentor the YOUNG folks in the business. There is a LOT to the Natural Gas Industry. We all learn every day!!

What's the strangest thing you've ever done? I rode a 350 Honda Motorcycle from Omaha to Yellowstone National Park when I was in college.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? Ability to snap my fingers to make everyone HEALTHY and make the world peaceful and safe for everyone!

When you’re not working, how do you enjoy spending your time? Anything and everything with my family and golfing with my buddies. We have been a foursome since Jr High!

Who is someone who's made a big impact on your life? Why? My daughters. They are so beautiful inside

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? Tom Osborne. I just missed my chance a couple of years ago…he was leaving Burger King when I was arriving.

How long have you been a member of HBAL? BHE has been a member since its inception!!! Our company prides itself on collaboration with our customers and support allies.

How has your career benefited from being a member of HBAL? Excellent vehicle for contacts that are so important to business development and growth.

What is your favorite HBAL event and why? I remember always eating Ruth Hietbrink’s chili for the contest. She makes the BEST chili!

Any tips or advice for new HBAL members? Stay as involved as you can.

It will pay dividends 10 fold.

Looking forward to March, we have a couple of events going on.

The Remodelers Council's "Builders & Burritos" with students from The Career Academy is on March 8.

Then March 18 is the Soup ‘r Chili Jason Willet Contest. Make Remodelers Council sure to come out to Chairperson support both events.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Home & Garden Show by volunteering or hosting a booth. It was a wonderful show and a great opportunity to have conversations with homeowners and other vendors. Events like this are a perfect way to expand your network. Also, a special thanks to the team at HBAL for planning and setting up the event. They do a great job of making this possible for all of us.

I hope you brought your family to the Home Show. If not, remember to bring them next year as it's a great way to give your family insight into the industry.

INTERIOR & RESIDENTIAL DESIGN CONTEST WINNERS The Home Builders Association of Lincoln announced the winners of the Interior & Residential Design Contest at the 52nd annual Nebraska Builders Home & Garden Show held at the Sandhills Global Event Center February 9-11. The two categories judged were Residential Drafting and Interior Design.
