A few weeks ago, I was having a conversation with a friend and we were talking about the pinnacle time I was in with both my family and profession (days and weeks felt as if they were flying by me). Overwhelmed in the moment, I questioned my friend why God was not giving me a chance to live and enjoy life. My friend responded by asking, “Have you ever prayed to God asking Him to slow things down for you?” So many times God has been there for me. How could I have lost sight of Him and why was I trying to carry this burden by myself? Needless to say, I took this to prayer and results were seen, although they were not the results I was expecting. I had been working on a custom home design for quite some time and although the design and bid came in where they envisioned, the client unexpectantly decided to pause the project and sit on it for some time. As I was driving away from the meeting, I realized that God had answered my prayers by lightening my workload. Seems as if all is well, right? Well, one might think if you are not fully loaded at all times then it is then stressful to make ends meet. However, by having a strong foundation of trust in God’s will, I can relax knowing God will take care of me and my family. I decided to share my recent life journey to prompt you in your prayer life to take all your concerns or troubles to God. John 15:7 “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatevery you wish, and it will be done for you.” As you take your prayers to God, just remember to trust in Him to know what is right for you. Below is one of my favorite prayers, written by Pope Francis, that helps build up my trust in God’s will. I release every care, every concern, every situation that is beyond my control. I trust that You are working things out for my good, and You are bringing justice to me. Thank You for Your goodness and faithfulness in my life, through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen! May God help answer your prayers and bless you this summer,

From the desk of your HBAL President:

First and foremost, thank you so much to everyone who registered for our first annual Light The Way 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run for the kids. We are very excited about this family-friendly event and our new partnership with The Lighthouse which will receive all proceeds. Forget to register? There is still time! Tyler Reynolds Just call Andrea at the HBAL office YBP President at 402-423-4225. This event is open to all HBAL members and anyone else you may know who would love to be involved. We also had a very successful Midday Meetup last month full of some great networking and discussion. I always love these events because it allows me to get to know some of our members on a more personal level. Haven't ever attended? What are you waiting for? Our next one will be in August. Stay tuned for locations. Last month we also hosted a lunch at the HBAL office with 28 of our members in attendance to share all the exciting things we have coming up and to discuss how we can most effectively benefit our members, the community and our industry. As always, if you would like to get more involved with YBP, please contact Andrea at HBAL. The only requirement is that you feel young at heart!

A very good friend of mine came up with this concept while working on several homes with different builders. While not intentional, during the design phase he saw an obvious disconnect between the builder and client because most clients simply couldn't clearly communicate what their desires were using only blueprints. I have been fortunate to have been a key part of several startup companies and he reached out to me to see if I would be interested in being a part of the ownership team and lead the operational and business development piece of the business. 10 Actions You Can Take That Will Dramatically Change Your Life

10 Actions You Can Take That Will Dramatically Change Your Life by Joel Brown

Someone once said “experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards.” However, it can be difficult to figure out exactly what that test is. We are not going to go into the usual jargon about taking up a hobby, going for a jog, or joining a self-improvement group. Changing our lives can be complex. Nonetheless, the flow of life is onward and upward irrespective of our need for self adjustment. Here are the actions you can take to create dramatic change in your life.

#1 Get over It! Yep, that’s it. Get over life. Stop making life more complicated than it is. Everything happens for a reason, and when one door shuts, another one opens. Once we stop resisting life and live it, we will see dramatic changes take place. One famous and wealthy actress who once lived in a homeless shelter stated “I learned that I could live through any situation. I grew into a person who knew that they could always make their own way.”

for eons. That means releasing yourself from the negative thoughts that keep you from being the person you wish to be.

#6 Be Thankful Instead of wandering through life like an ungrateful tormentor always wanting more, more, more, maybe it's time to appreciate what you already have. It may not seem like much, but making this type of change in your life will help you feel better about yourself, thereby, changing your outlook on life.

#7 Chill Out Today, it seems so difficult for people to simply relax. Beating the walls and making a big hoot about everything will only make you a nuisance, and no one will want to be around you. Former US president Ronald Regan once stated “it's true, hard work never killed anybody, but why take the chance.” There’s a difference between hard work and working hard. If you have the “all or nothing” attitude, change it.

Learn your lesson, get over it, and move on.

#8 Become Less Sensitive

#2 Change Your Outlook

Sometimes changing ourselves requires “seeing ourselves as others do.” If you are one of those people that others feel the need to “walk on eggshells” whenever they are around you maybe they are on to something. Our own thoughts about ourselves are always the most important, but delusional musing is a great obstacle to change.

Dramatic changes calls for employing that stint of courage that propels us to make positive changes in our lives. Prepare for positive and new things to enter your life. A shift in consciousness is all that is needed to make the changes you seek.

#3 Go for it! If you are dreaming of something bigger, it won’t come to you. You will have to go out there and get it. Jenna Fischer, an actress on the hit TV show “The Office,” made a trip from her hometown to Los Angeles expecting to land a super job within a year. However, it took much longer. But patience paid off and she eventually landed movie roles and started producing.

#4 Don’t Give Up Good things come to those who do not give up, not to those who wait! Change requires action but those changes won’t usually happen over night. In 1983, Dewey Bozella, then an amateur boxer, was convicted of a murder he did not commit. It took over 20 years for his name to be cleared. Free to continue pursuing his dream of becoming a boxer, he was 52, stepped into the ring against a 30 year old fighter and won! At the end of the night he said “Don’t ever give up.” Lesson learned.

#5 Go on a Diet Many of us have tried various diets whether to loose weight or gain it. But those are not the types of diets we are referring to here. In order to make significant changes in your life you should try a “mental diet.” Get out all the clutter that’s been stuck in your brain 20  Lincoln Business Builder

#9 Have a Broader Sense of Humor Nothing changes the heart and mind like a good laugh. Laughter creates an opening where tension and fear once closed the door. Even while alone, have a few funny quotes you read that generate a deeply rich honest chuckle. A humorous quote by political satirist and entertainer Mark Russell says “the scientific theory I like best is that the rings of Saturn are composed entirely of lost airline baggage.” It’s imaginative and funny.

#10 Love The love being referenced to here is not the clinging, dark, jealous, possessive love that makes you hate yourself and causes others to run away from you. Love in general is the modus operandi referred to here. It’s easy to point the finger at others but love understands because we are not perfect ourselves. It changes you because you become more perceptive. You can probably think of a few other ideas that can result in dramatic changes in your life or someone else’s. All that is required is the desire to change. © Joel Brown, Addicted2Success. Reprinted with permission.

Come see the Mini House! 224 N. 28th Street is a brand new small home. At just over 500 square feet, it and a garage fit on a non-standard lot that is only 44’ X 55’. It will be open to the public on Thursday, June 1 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. This small home fits several important niches in the current marketplace. Its small size makes it affordable and easy to maintain - suitable as a starter home, for the single professional or for an empty nester. It addresses the small lot challenge of older neighborhoods and its design could work as an Accessory Dwelling Unit or ADU. It offers over 800 square feet of living space and features a finished basement with bath and laundry facilities on both levels. The small home is available to purchase and is listed for $119,900 through Woods Bros. Realty. Buyers can get up to $25,000 in assistance for the purchase of this property but they must also live in the property, meet income eligibility requirements and complete homebuyer training through Neighborworks Lincoln. The home was built by Affordable Housing Initiatives, a nonprofit based in Lincoln, and designed in cooperation with the City of Lincoln’s Planning Department and Department of Urban Development and Ken Inness as the general contractor. Unlike the tiny houses featured on television, small homes are usually 500 – 1000 square feet and are built on a permanent foundation, conforming to current standards of safety, efficiency and zoning while meeting the financing requirements of mortgage lenders. Small homes will also work where more conventional home designs do not. Non-standard lots are often referred to as non-buildable lots because current zoning and setback requirements mean that the existing structures on them cannot be built to the same footprint. There are many lots like this in Lincoln and when it comes to repurposing them, small homes are a viable option. The City of Lincoln is currently considering a zoning ordinance amendment that would allow small houses to be built as ADU’s associated with existing residential properties throughout the city. These could provide a living space for a relative, rental income for a homeowner or an accessible structure allowing a property owner to “age in place.” In other cities, small homes may be part of new development areas where a cluster of affordable, accessible and efficient houses may be grouped together with common areas for community activities.
