President’s Message

Lori Wellman, HBAL President

Summer is here and it’s going to be a HOT one! We had a beautiful day for the HBAL golf tournament. We had over 220 golfers participate and raised almost $10,000 for the Lincoln Home Builders Care Foundation. Thank you to everyone who helped with cooking the food, any other parts of organizing the tournament and those of you who had teams to support this event.

Contracts are now available for the Fall Parade of Homes. If you are a builder with a home for sale and are looking for a way to market your business, I highly recommend participating. The deadline for advertising and entering a home in the Parade is July 28.

Our next event will be the HBAL Family Fun Night at Sun Valley Lanes. The deadline for reserving your tickets to the event is July 14. There will be many fun activities for all ages to enjoy.

Tell us about your family. Our team is made up mostly of family members. Team leads Susan and Bill Buettner have four daughters and three grandsons. One of their daughters is a member of their team. Best restaurant you've ever been to?

I can’t remember the name but it was a small family restaurant tucked away in a neighborhood in Budapest, Hungary. They were amazing people and they cooked the most amazing food.

Favorite place you've traveled? We’ve traveled to several places but we always go back to Las Vegas. You get to see people from everywhere while having the best food, drinks and entertainment.

Where are you from? Where did you go to school? Susan and Bill are both from Lexington, NE, where they started dating in high school. Went to college in Kearney and moved to Lincoln for Susan to attend Law School.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? Susan was a practicing attorney for 15 years before moving into real estate. And had a toddler and a 2 month old baby when starting law school. Who is someone who's made a big impact on your life? Why? We both

had high school teachers that made us feel worthy and sparked our interest in learning.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? Thurgood Marshall

What do you/did you love the most about your job? The independence of it all.

What experiences and past roles have led you to where you are today?

Susan’s legal and Bill’s military careers. What career advice do you live by? Who gave it to you? Your success isn’t based on luck. It’s based on hard work and gratitude.

What are your future goals and aspirations for your career? Growth in our company that includes providing value added products to the community.

What is your favorite HBAL event and why? Home Show. We appreciate the opportunity to meet new people and hear about new ideas. It’s a one stop shop for collaboration and learning.

Any tips or advice for new HBAL members? Take advantage of as many of the trainings and gatherings as possible.

July is here and it is hot! The summer is one of the best times for remodeling for our customers. Summer vacation time is in full swing, the house can be open to let the breeze blow out the drywall dust.

We had a great event with our picnic at Antelope park. It was so much fun to get to talk with other Remodelers Council Members and create relationships with each other. I enjoy the days of talking with other business people in our group. We have learned to help and depend on each other for advice on how to run our businesses in good times and in bad. This group has been a great experience and asset to our company, and I hope it has been the same for all of yours. We are all busy, but taking the time to be involved in the community and Remoders Council is just as important as the day to day operations we all have. We do not have any events scheduled for the month of July, but be prepared for the Remodelers Council golf tournament August 18th at Holmes Golf Course. This is such a fun event with prizes, raffles and games along the golf course. Please come and join us for a great time!
