Guide for Apprentices Cardiff

Welcome to Hazlewoods

Many of our apprentices and placement students join us from various parts of the UK, so we’ve created this guide to help you settle in by providing useful information about Cardiff and the surrounding area.

Cardiff

The vibrant capital of Wales, offers a unique blend of history, culture, and modern attractions. Known for its stunning Cardiff Castle and the picturesque Bute Park, the city is rich in heritage while boasting a lively waterfront at Cardiff Bay, filled with restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues. It’s also a hub for arts and sports, home to the Principality Stadium and the Wales Millennium Centre. With excellent shopping, diverse dining options, and easy access to beautiful Welsh countryside and coastline

Transport

Rail

Cardiff Central (Station Approach, CF10 1PJ) has direct services to Bristol, London (under 2 hours), Birmingham, and other UK cities.

Bus

Cardiff Bus and Stagecoach operate a large network of local routes. Megabus and National Express run long-distance services.

E-scooters

Tier operates e-scooters in Cardiff. Just download the app. You will need a full or provisional driving licence.

Letting Agents

CPS Homes (CF24 4EA) – One of Cardiff’s largest independent letting agencies, offering student and professional rentals across the city.

Ogg & Hogg (CF23 5JX) – Known for friendly service and a good range of properties in popular areas like Roath and Cyncoed.

Lettings2Sales (CF10 5EX) – Offers both letting and sales services, with options for shared houses and flats in central Cardiff.

Having the nearby University, there may be student accommodation available.

If you would like to house-share with another apprentice/placement student, please contact HR.

The WhatsApp group set up by HR, is an ideal place to discuss housing options.

Sport and Leisure

Hazlewoods is proud to sponsor Gloucester Rugby and Cheltenham Town FC. Each month, a limited number of tickets are available for staff to claim on a first-come, first-served basis - giving you the chance to enjoy local sporting action.

Health and Wellbeing

At Hazlewoods, we’re committed to supporting your health and wellbeing - physically, emotionally, and mentally.

Mind, Body and Soul is our annual programme of events designed to promote overall wellbeing. There are a range of activities throughout the year - visit the eHub for full details.

We also provide a range of wellbeing services, including:

• Employee Assistance Programme

• Mental wellbeing app

• Virtual GP appointments

• Health checks and mental health consultations via Aviva

To reinforce our commitment to mental health, we have trained Mental Health First Aiders in every office. They’re available to listen and offer support whenever you need it.

In addition to your line manager, you’ll also be paired with a buddy to help you settle in and provide day-to-day support.
