Summer 2016

Congratulations to all the children who won a prize on Speech Day The whole school came together to celebrate HM The Queen’s 90th birthday with a wonderful garden party, and cake and hat making competition.


Our boarders have had great fun this term ...

The Britz! gave our Year

8 pupils the chance to put on a complete theatrical production. From singing, dancing and acting, they also created the tickets, programmes, posters and sold merchandise working together as one big happy team.

Year 5 delighted us with some wonderful Arthurian tales in their play Trouble up the Tor set in an old ruin on a storm ravaged hillside.

Year 5 launched into

8 fabulous concerts

were enjoyed this term including a Joint Choral Concert with King’s Bruton, a Pre-Prep Concert, a Boarders’ Concert, a Lower School Concert and the Year 8 Soloists’ Concert - a fitting tribute to the musical talents of our leavers before they head off to their senior schools.

Year 5 French breakfast

We held an EU referendum

an exciting Rocket Science experiment and planted rocket seeds that had been on the International Space Station with British astronaut Tim Peake.

The turnout was excellent with 90% of pupils voting. The result? 66% of Hazlegrove pupils voted to remain and 34% to leave.

Year 6 crimebusters had great

fun and helped to solve a case at the @Bristol Science Museum after learning about forensic science and crime scene techniques


Year 8 pupils took on their parents 26 Qualifiers for National in the Fathers vs Sons cricket and the Mothers vs Daughters rounders matches.

Making A Difference

We hosted a fantastic Colour Run for St Margaret’s Hospice with over 1400 people taking part on a summer’s day.

U12 King’s School Bruton National Schools Biathle Finals Cricket Festival Winners. We are sponsoring two children through Magazine Wharf Kids, a charity that helps Ebola orphans.

The Friends’ Art Exhibition

was a great success with lots of local artists and sculptors exhibiting. Each child had a piece of work in the exhibition too.

Congratulations to our 28 pupils who were successful in gaining scholarships and awards to their senior schools. They included academic, music, drama, sport, art and design and technology.
