We were delighted to welcome The Countess of Wessex when she visited Hazlegrove to open our new Fitzjames Teaching and Learning Centre.
11 November Remembrance
The whole school gathered by the flagpole at 11am on 11 November for our traditional service to remember the fallen. Senior boarders had made poppies to ‘plant’ in remembrance of former pupils who had lost their lives in conflict.
European Languages Day
Hazlegrove was awash with colour as children and staff donned costumes and accessories to represent different countries. Quizzes and a themed lunch were the order of the day.

September ‘in weekend’ -The Hazlegrove Boarding Community
Year 7 ventured to the River Dart for a few days of challenge and excitement, working together to push themselves and conquer any fears they faced.
Year 5 immersed themselves in a mixture of ecology, team building, scientific discovery and history during their trip to Naturesbase in Wales.
Year 7 delighted audiences with their play “An Evening of Roald Dahl”

John McCarthy Lecture
We were delighted to welcome Kate Adie to Hazlegrove to deliver the second John McCarthy lecture. Kate talked about her personal experiences and about the changing role of women in society as a consequence of WW1.
So many opportunities to perform...
With twelve concerts this term including the Joint Schools’ Concert with King’s Bruton, the Pre-Prep Concert, the Lower School Concert and two Boarders’ Concerts there have been plenty of opportunities to perform.
The Wessex walkers raised over £200 for Save the Children
The beekeepers sold Hazlegrove honey raising £180 for Somerset Wildlife Trust
Dragon workshop
Year 4 enjoyed getting messy and being creative creating a dragon from cardboard, newspaper, tissue paper, glue and paint. The result was spectacular!
Reading millionaires
The children have responded brilliantly to the challenge to read 150,000,000 words this term with plenty of millionaires and even multi-millionaires!
Tudor explorers
Year 4 went to Ufton Court in Berkshire and became Tudor explorers for the day, “travelling” the world to discover unusual items for Queen Elizabeth.
Fantastic achievements in hockey and rugby...
Hazlegrove children can all be proud of their achievements on the hockey pitches and rugby fields this term. They have enjoyed some fantastic sport across all age groups and at all levels. Well played everyone. Particular congratulations go to all those who have achieved tournament successes, just some of whom are pictured below.
An unbeaten season... Our swimmers have won all their matches this term - well done!
Squash courts are busy
This continues to be a popular activity at break and club times and the squash players have had several good matches against other schools.

A fairy tale theme for Bonfire Night
The tutor groups this year were tasked with creating their guys based on fairy tale characters. True to form, the end results, which included the likes of Rapunzel (in her tower),The Three Little Pigs and Snow White with her seven dwarves, were to be marvelled at. Our heartfelt thanks go to the Friends of Hazlegrove and all their helpers who made this evening so enjoyable. Organising a wonderful array of refreshments and such a spectacular display of fireworks is no mean feat!
Our riders have enjoyed tremendous success this term with team success at King’s Sedgemoor and Leweston. Particular congratulations go to Anna F who is NSEA Grassroots Regional Champion and to Millie T-C who won her class at the competitive Stonar ODE.
