A term of exciting trips and visits
Autumn 2016
Year 7 had a week of challenge and teambuilding at the River Dart Country Park; Year 5 enjoyed a trip to Naturesbase for four days of scientific discovery, team building, shelter building and navigation; Year 4 visited Ufton Court, an Elizabethan manor for their Tudor Explorers Day and Year 3 had a fun-packed informative day learning about the Romans and Celts at New Barn.
Remembrance Service Ceramic poppies made by the Pre-Prep were laid at the flagpole in Remembrance of former pupils who lost their lives in conflict.
The boarders have had great fun this term enjoying trips to Montacute House, Splashdown and Ham Hill. They took part in a charity marathon, had barbecues, tested the new nerf guns, and had lots of fresh air activities ...
We have had some wonderful concerts including
the Joint King’s Bruton Concert, the Lower School Concert, the Pre-Prep Concert and our weekly Friday Concerts.
Year 7 entertained with their fabulous production of ‘In Dreams’, which featured songs, sketches, dance and rap about how they dream of entertaining family and friends.
Sir Linkalot
Shipwrecked en France, a
visited Hazlegrove and introduced the children to the concept of finding amusing and easy ways of remembering things.
The Middle School Maths
Morning was great fun and was spent pondering many mathematical conundrums in varied locations around school.
French play. The children had fun participating and enjoyed the story of an English boy shipwrecked in France.
Food Technology
has arrived at Hazlegrove with aplomb! The pupils have been busy baking and cooking in our fabulous new facilities.
European Day was
celebrated in cultural style. The children had fun dressing up as a European country and enjoyed a French lunch of Boeuf Bourguignon or Coq au Vin.
Some of the charities the children have supported this term are: Mary’s Meals, Mustard Seed Relief Fund, Harambee, Macmillan and the British Heart Foundation.
Exciting new resources in our Art
and DT departments including a vinyl cutter, an etching press and a laser cutter.
A brilliant Bonfire Night with some very gruesome guys! The theme this year was “The Thing – that which lurks, just out of sight, in the corners of your imaginations.” The guys were so good it was a shame to burn them!
Congratulations to our 1st team who won the All Hallows Hockey Tournament and finished 3rd place in the U13 Regional IAPS Hockey Tournament, qualifying for the prestigious National Finals.
We are delighted that all Hazlegrove pupils from Years 3 to 8 have represented the school this term on either the rugby or hockey pitches. They have all played with determination and enthusiasm and we look forward to the netball and hockey terms ahead.

Good news as our U13b team
won the Hazlegrove Hockey Tournament.
Many congratulations to our Well done to the U11b team who won the All Hallows Hockey Tournament.
A fabulous win for the U11c team who won the Millfield Hockey Tournament.
team of riders who won the Somerset County Cup NSEA competition over half-term. They have now qualified for the NSEA National Finals to be held at Addington in Buckinghamshire in April.
Ten children qualified and went to compete at Pentathlon We had a VIP guest as British Olympic freestyle GB’s National Biathlon Finals in Solihull - a fantastic swimmer, Cameron Kurle, popped in to join the Hazlegrove achievement in itself. Special congratulations go to Anya Evans squad swimmers for their regular training session and gave who finished sixth. them some great tips on technique.
We are delighted to announce that one of the sows on our school farm
has had a litter and we now have five little piglets skipping around full of mischief. The children have really enjoyed going to see them and have watched their antics with delight!
