SUMMER PROJECTS K-5 STEAM CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT The K-5 STEAM teachers will receive training on the UbD framework and the Hazel Park School District curriculum writing template. Identification of long-term goals along with essential knowledge, skills, understandings, and driving questions is a critical first step in the curriculum writing process. This work will involve vertical and horizontal alignment of MITEC standards, Michigan CS, and 21st skills. Following the identification of the driving question and the essential standards, the work will focus on updating the STEAM curriculum outline and developing K-5 units of study.
K-5 ELECTIVES CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT The K-5 elective teachers will receive training on the UbD framework and the Hazel Park School District curriculum writing template. Through this process, teachers will identify priority standards, develop vertical and horizontal alignment across grades K-5, and develop units of student-written in the UbD format.
K-5 SCIENCE PILOT RESEARCH AND PILOT MATERIALS SELECTION During the summer months, the science pilot team will review resources and materials, select pilot programs, and participate in professional learning in preparation for the 2022-2023 pilot.

MTSS PROCESS AND HANDBOOK Members of the MTSS team, including the central office and building administrators, will meet and complete work to accomplish the following: Review and update the MTSS process; Develop an MTSS flowchart; Revise the MTTS handbook; Investigate research and evidence-based MTSS interventions
SUMMER PROJECTS NEW TEACHER ONBOARDING & TRAINING PROJECT To effectively implement this project, the instructional coaches, under the oversight of the curriculum department, need time to develop a training plan and comprehensive onboarding materials. Training materials will be used during the New Teacher Academy and housed in the onboarding drive to support teachers who may enter the district at another time during the school year. The project will address the following goals: Design training material, including text and video-based; Develop an articulated plan to orient new teachers to the district’s curriculum, instructional frameworks, and assessment platforms; Update the onboarding share drive.
CATEGORICAL PROGRAM CURRICULUM PROJECT Our summer work will provide the opportunity for our categorical teachers (those who volunteered their time) to come together, discuss their needs, research curriculums, develop their understanding of the Essential Elements (what they are, how they align, how to use, etc), and learn how to implement pacing guides. We will use this content to develop a comprehensive, consistent framework for student learning in our categorical programs with a focus on the following goals: The expansion of teacher knowledge on the Essential Elements and associated pacing guides. The research of research-based curriculums/frameworks for categorical programs to be used consistently across the K-12 special education continuum, with fidelity and differentiation as needed. The development of a framework for our categorical programs that meets the needs of all learners in our categorical programs.
6-12 SUMMER PROFESSIONAL GROWTH PROJECTS The 6-12 project proposals for the Summer of 2022 reflect areas in our curriculum where we will be reviewing, revising, and/or identifying resources to complement the curriculum.
6-12 ADVISORY COMMITTEE Advisory allows for teachers to meet with small groups of students to provide them with a safe environment for the purpose of building trust and connecting with at least one adult in their assigned school building. Advisory can also be used to help students figure out who they are, where they are headed, and how they are going to get there. Through an advisory system, each student has an adult who knows them and helps them navigate school. This summer work team will review and revise the current Advisory curriculum and structure at the secondary level. This team will also create a training session that they will share and present with their respective school teams at the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
SUMMER PROJECTS 9-12 SCHOOL STUDIES REVIEW/PILOT TEAM Social Studies resources are up for a refresh at the high school level. This team will dig into the current resources that are available for social studies courses that need a resource refresh. This summer work team will identify a resource that will be piloted during the 2022-2023 school year.
9-12 WORLD LANGUAGE CURRICULUM WRITING TEAM The World Language department will continue the deep dive curriculum work for the World Language courses at the secondary level in Hazel Park. This summer work team will revise and update the secondary World Languages curriculum/units of study. The team will also finalize the resource to be used to complement the units of study for each World Language taught in the district.
NEW DANIELSON EVALUATION PROJECT Teachers will work in collaboration with the central office to review and provide feedback on what changes need to be made and what training we should provide. The goals of the project are as follows: Participate in professional learning on the updated Framework for Teaching and the major clusters; Analyze the updated Framework for Teaching and make forms and process adjustments as needed; Develop a roll-out and implementation plan, if applicable
PROJECT-BASED LEARNING COHORT - YEAR 2 In collaboration with Oakland Schools, the district will offer training on project-based learning. The training will be supported by Kim Kocsis, the ISD Project-Based Learning consultant, and 2021-2022 PBL Cohort members. Following the summer training, participating teachers will have the opportunity to join after-school and job-embedded coaching sessions with the PBL consultant. The overarching goals of this project are: Provide targeted and supported professional learning in the effective design and implementation of PBL; Expand PBL training opportunities to all staff, supported by the ISD and/or members of the 21-22 PBL cohort; Develop PBL units aligned to Hazel Park Curriculum; Participate in regular after-school and job-embedded coaching/networking sessions
