Road rage with a woman who thought I had pinched her parking space...Lost mobile phone, lost house keys and grumpy people inspired me to take refuge in by bathroom and indulge in a relaxing soak in my bath tub, something I only tend to do in the winter months... Candles lit, soft music playing, floating away to some island in the sun. It works wonders at washing away those dreary days, creating a haven of peace and tranquility. Enjoy & be inspired.

Still one blessing is the hosepipe bans have been lifted. Grey seems to be a trending colour (all thanks to one author), so much so it inspired me to find some stylish grey products to fill your homes with. Don’t be afraid of using grey as many shades of grey can actually be quite warming and subtle, just perfect to create an environment where you just want to snuggle down and pick up a good book.

ave you indulged yourself into the 50 Shades of Grey? Unfortunately, neither Rachel or I have had the time yet to read this trilogy that appears to have become somewhat of a phenomenon and I'm only overhearing what my friends are saying about it, but clearly there seems to be something tantalising between the covers! All this chitta-chatta about shades of grey has inspired me to go in search of home interior products that fit within this trend. E3 HOUSE IN CANADA BY ARCHITECT NATALIE DIONNE
T
he E3 House is located in. a bustling neighbourhood near the very popular Jean-Talon Market in Montreal. It was designed for a family with a deep attachment to the neighbourhood, the parents' work in theatre, film and television, and the children are young adults. The exterior geometry of the residence is a simple parallelepiped defined by two largely fenestrated walls on the east and west sides and party walls to the north and south. The orientation of the lot inspired the design of a multi-level House that enables natural light to penetrate. The floors are staggered on Either Side of the 12-meter-high central atrium that divides into two volumes the house, front and back, a staircase, topped with a skylight, links the different Levels. The large windows situated at both ends of the house and the central skylight allow the sun to reach deep into the interior to create ever-changing plays of natural light and shadow. Malthus, the interior environment modulates According To the time of day and the season. Large wooden shutters slide in front of the windows in each room to filter the light at dawn and sunset. To ensure natural ventilation, the windows are facing and each other they all open, as do those in the skylight. The shutters protect the house from Aussi summer heat. The house is Called E3 because it is organized around the cross section of the building. The cross-sectional drawing resembles a capital E is backward linked to E by intersecting the staircase. Each living space and room is on a Separate level. The staircase links the six rooms in the house, ultimately leading to a mezzanine studio and a terrace with a view of iconic Mount Royal. On the Other Side, looks out the skylight was green roof system, where 'a small field of lavender will be planted. The bedrooms open onto the central space-through wide sliding doors pivoting gold, which expand the space, allow light to enter, and create a depth of perspective. When the doors are closed, the space is withdrawn, allowing for insulation, privacy, and contemplation. The volume is structured by integrated architectural elements and finishes contribute that has graphical and sculptural quality to the space. The central staircase, light and airy, and the impressive island kitchen both feature steel and walnut.

Cabinets, wardrobes and storage spaces, made with maple-veneer plywood, is vertically arranged to create multi-functional, multilevel monoliths. Outside, marine-grade plywood stained to a dark espresso colour lines the walls and ceilings of alcoves off to mark both front and back entrances. The project's program includes a code of materials with simple, repetitive colours: polished concrete, natural steel, wood and blue tiles. The interplay of these materials creates stunning graphical compositions that resemble abstract paintings. Trained in architecture and video art, Natalie Dionne opened in 2000. Her work has engaged sophisticated exploration of the links between art and architecture, film and interior design. Early in her career she worked with artists on the production and installation of public art. In 2008, she collaborated with her partner, Martin Laneville, House on the U (U House), an urban residence Focused inwards around interior courtyard that year accommodates both their family home and studio office. When it was completed in 2008, Lipton left the movie and television industry to join Dionne full time in design development. A bathroom should be a place for thought and reflection. A tranquil space in which to unwind and drift away. Bathrooms seem to have got smaller and smaller, almost an after thought, a space in which to squeeze a bath, toilet, basin and if you’re luck a shower as well. I do most of my thinking in the shower and my most creative time is while lounging in a bath, candles lit, music playing. I aspire to build my own house with a space big enough to install the most creative of bath tubs or perhaps have the luxury of turning a bedroom over to a a huge luxurious space. Over the last few months we have uncovered some truely inspiring bath tubs, so we hope you enjoy a selection of our favourite tubs. The Swiss company Bagno Sasso sets trends and creates new ideas for fantastic spa moments. Their bathtubs have a very architectural feel and set eye-catching trends in modern bathrooms. I came across a stunning bath from Indigenous Tiles at a recent exhibition. Riverstone (pictured above) is sourced straight from the riverbed, the Riverstone Collection includes a selection of stunning bathtubs, bowls and pedestal basins. Basalt boulders, originating from the active Marapi volcano in Central Java, are washed down the river during the rainy season, by torrents of water, before becoming lodged downstream. The boulders are then collected and crafted by hand. Polished to give an internal smooth finish, the Riverstones boulders are chosen to complement each other and share a fluid bowl design and rich, earthy tone. Each piece is completely unique. Riverstones can be used throughout the bathroom or chosen individually as statement pieces - their distinctive natural look suiting both contemporary and traditional interiors.

Candles lit, soft music playing, floating away to some island in the sun. It works wonders at washing away those dreary thoughts, creating a haven of peace and tranquility. I must admit I first need to declutter the bathroom of rubber ducks and floating bath toys, but the effort of creating a sensual space is worth it, and not just for us women, I think the men should give it a try as well. Now relaxed by my bath time treat, I have been inspired to uncovered some truly inspiring bath tubs, so have a look at our unusual bath tubs feature, however if space is limited and funds are depleted I have also found some lovely fragrances and luxurious bath towels that should transform even the smallest of bathrooms into your own personal spa. So what ever the weather or your mood take a little time to transform your bathroom and soak away those grey, rainy summer days. Fill your bathtub, close the door, tight some candles, play soft music and drift away which you wash the stresses and strains of the day. If you are lacking

ew build homes have undergone an architectural evolution in the last thirty years due to a fundamental shift in consumer demand. Separate reception rooms once epitomised sophisticated living, and layouts were structured around areas specifically designated as kitchens, living or dining rooms. Upstairs, floor plans were designed to include as many bedrooms and bathrooms as possible, with en suites regarded as the height of luxury. In essence, this enables families to grow into their homes, and for the homes to adapt to differing family needs.
