This herculean feat reflects the unwavering spirit of a community that chose possibility over despair. Through the exceptional leadership of our nonprofit organizations, the dedication of our elected officials, and the unwavering support of our regional healthcare partners, we proved what collective determination can accomplish. Building a hospital requires community-wide commitment, butensuringitscontinuedservicetoallwhoneedit—ourfamilies, neighbors, and future generations—demands our ongoing vigilance and support.

SPOTLIGHTING HAYWARD’S OWN YANIRA LEDEZMA
Born and raised in Hayward, Yanira Ledezma has dedicated her life to uplifting her hometown. Currently the Superintendent of Hayward Twin Oaks Montessori School (HTOMS), Yanira’s journey from a local student to a leader in public education reflects our city’s pride in fostering homegrown talent.
Yanira attended Burbank Elementary, Winton Middle School, and Mt Eden High School before graduating from CSU Hayward. Her professional path began with Hayward Unified School District, where she gained a rich understanding of the district’s diverse needs and the importance of supportive, inclusive education.
In 2013, Yanira joined the founding faculty of Silver Oak High School now Hayward Twin Oaks Montessori. Rising through nearly every position within the school, she became Principal in 2021, and in 2024, she was appointed Superintendent. Under Yanira’s leadership, HTOMS has also become a hub for cultivating future educators. Alumni of the school have returned as teachers, teacher assistants, and intervention staff.
Hayward Twin Oaks Montessori School is a “hidden gem” in the East Bay a tuition-free, non-profit, Montessori school governed by a team of local leaders. As the first fully dual-accredited public 1st-12th grade Montessori program in the state, HTOMS stands as a testament to Hayward’s dedication to progressive, inclusive education.
Beyond education, Yanira’s commitment to Hayward runs deep. Her family’s history of civil service her sister, a retired Hayward Police lieutenant, and her brother, a Bay Area law enforcement sergeant— drives her own mission to give back to the community that shaped her. Yanira exemplifies Hayward’s dedication to building lifelong learners and leaders!

On October 26th, the Hayward Chamber was thrilled to join the 5th annual Hayward Promise Neighborhood’s Promise Fest & Hayward Library Trunk or Treat, where Hayward’s community spirit was on full display! With an estimated 7,000 kids, mountains of candy, and endless activities, this event showcased the vibrant heart of our city. Mayor Salinas put it perfectly: “It takes a village to raise a child in Hayward,” and this village was all-in!
Our Chamber booth spotlighted job opportunities with the Hayward Area Recreation District, shared upcoming events at the Hayward Area Historical Society, and provided info from Youth Enrichment Programs (YEP) about their impactful programs and job openings. Sensei Anthony Thomas from Thomas Martial Arts brought extra excitement with his candyfilled trunk and an engaging martial arts demo that kept young attendees in awe!
It was also a pleasure reconnecting with former colleague Tressa Marques, now supporting our community with Hayward Promise Neighborhood (HPN). A huge thank you to Edgar Chavez of HPN, the Hayward Library team, and everyone involved in making this day unforgettable. Here’s to the magic of community and all who showed up for Hayward’s kids!
