We are proud to invite you to an exciting new season featuring a thoughtfully curated selection of local and national performances that reflect the vibrant interests and diverse audiences of the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District. This year’s lineup includes beloved resident artists México Danza and West Coast Blues Society, imaginative new works through our incubation projects, dazzling musicals by Hillbarn Theatre, and engaging programming for youth and seniors alike including the debut of the H.A.R.D. Youth Conservatory and returning favorites like the Douglas Morrisson Theatre Chorus.

As a cornerstone of the Bay Area’s cultural scene, our community theater continues to thrive, thanks to the unwavering support of our audiences. The captivating DMT Presents Series is a curated collection of exceptional performances that promise to transport you to new realms of imagination and emotion Immerse yourself in a world of diverse storytelling, where each production is a carefully crafted masterpiece designed to ignite your senses and deepen your appreciation for live performance.

DMT Presents also spotlights the Resident Artist Program who are exceptional local performing artists or those that strongly reflect the cultural interests of our community.

Brian Copeland: Live Performance & Book Signing

BRIAN COPELAND

SEPTEMBER 5, 2025 | $25

Brian Copeland, former KGO host, returns to his San Leandro and Hayward roots with a powerful performance and book signing that highlight his evolution into one of the Bay Area’s most compelling storytellers. Drawing from personal experiences growing up in San Leandro, Copeland uses humor and heart to explore themes of race, identity, and resilience solidifying his place as a vital voice in American theater.

His acclaimed one-man play, Not a Genuine Black Man, recounts his childhood as one of the only African American children in the suburb of San Leandro. The play, which has garnered national acclaim, is currently being developed into a television series. Following the performance at DMT, Copeland will be available in the lobby for a book signing, featuring several of his published works including a new title set to debut in 2025.

Murder for Two

Murder for Two is a fast-paced, hilarious whodunit that blends comedy, mystery, and music into an unforgettable theatrical experience. The show, which features just two actors portraying an entire cast of eccentric suspects, is brought to life with sharp comedic timing and impressive musical talent. Adding to the production’s charm are the beautifully designed sets, which create an immersive world that seamlessly shifts between scenes, enhancing the energy and whimsy of the performance. With its clever storytelling, dynamic performances, and visually striking stage design, Murder for Two is a must-see production

With her velvety vocals and charismatic stage presence, Stella Heath leads the audience through an enchanting evening of classic love tunes, sharing the stories behind the music that defined generations From the sultry sounds of Ella Fitzgerald to the playful charm of Nat King Cole, this show is a swoon-worthy journey through the Great American Songbook, filled with rich storytelling, dazzling musicianship, and toe-tapping rhythms

The Band features Stella Heath’s vocal styling; Neil Fontano's classic piano virtuoso; Michael Fortunato, rich and inventive on tenor saxophone and clarinet; Trevor Kinsel interchanging between upright bass and cornett; and Spike Klein on the drum kit.

Deep Roots, Bold Blues: A Celebration of Black Heritage

Hosted by the West Coast Blues Society, this electrifying event pays tribute to the pioneers of the genre while showcasing the enduring influence of Blues on modern music. With soul-stirring vocals, searing guitar licks, and infectious rhythms, the evening will feature a lineup of dynamic musicians who carry the torch of traditional and West Coast Blues. Through music and storytelling, audiences will be transported through the history of the Blues—from its origins in the Deep South to its evolution on the West Coast, where it fused with jazz, R&B, and rock to shape the soundtrack of generations. More than just a concert, Deep Roots, Bold Blues is a tribute to resilience, creativity, and the enduring spirit of Black music. Songs for a New World

Curious George: The Golden Meatball

Join Curious George, the inquisitive, engaging monkey-star of books, movies and the award-winning PBS television show in a brand new musical. Curious George: The Golden Meatball is a loveable adventure, specifically designed for young audiences, that is sure to leave your audiences singing and swinging down the aisles. All You-CanEat Meatball Day came just once a year. George had been waiting all month for that day, a day almost bigger than his birthday! On Meatball Day, George helped his friend, Chef Pisghetti, cook some delicious meatballs and serve them to the hungry crowd. But this year, the crowd had vanished! Something was keeping people away... something pretty big And that something was Phinneas T. Lightspeed and his speedy Meatballs-o-Matic machine. In despair, Chef Pisghetti vows to cook no more Determined to help his friend, George goes on a mission to enter the Chef's meatballs in the worldfamous Golden Meatball Contest in Rome. With every swing and flip, George takes the audience through a fun-filled adventure, in which he learns more about Rome... and meatballs... and the secret ingredient to cooking!

Una Celebración Para las Madres

Celebrate the strength, beauty, and love of mothers at Una Celebración Para las Madres, a joyful Ballet Folklórico performance honoring maternal figures through vibrant dance, colorful costumes, and traditional Mexican music. This heartfelt showcase blends regional styles and rhythms in a spirited tribute to the women who nurture, lead, and inspire us.

Monster Movies

OCTOBER 23 & 30, 2025 | $20

Join us in October, for the second year of Mr. Hive's Monster Movie Series, perfect for getting into the Halloween spirit! The series features a mix of classic horror films, modern fright flicks, and familyfriendly spooky movies. Each night will showcase a different iconic monster or horror theme, with films ranging from vampires and werewolves to haunted houses and supernatural beings. Audience participation and games are also part of this spooktacular night!

Golden Age Matinee

The Golden Age Matinee is dedicated to celebrating the classic films of Hollywood's Golden Age. Taking place every first Tuesday afternoon of the month, this series offers a nostalgic trip back in time with screenings of beloved movies from the 1930s to the 1960s

H.A.R.D. Youth Conservatory

Young artists shine on and off stage through camps and productions that build skills in acting, voice, movement, and tech. Each season features intensive training and a full musical, giving participants performance experience and a creative outlet.

Sound of Music

JANUARY 31 & FEBRUARY 7, 2026

Join us for the youth production of The Sound of Music at the Douglas Morrisson Theater, where talented young performers bring this beloved classic to life with heartwarming songs and timeless storytelling Under the direction of Ish Amitoj Kaur, the class trains students in acting, singing, and movement, culminating in a fully staged performance for family and friends.

Back by popular demand, a weekly offering of children-centered performers and films to engage your child and provide some pre-bedtime entertainment.
