INTERNAL MECHANISMS Engine: Check for signs of leaks, ensure proper fluid levels, and inspect belts and hoses for wear and tear.

Test gears for smooth operation, check for leaks in transmission fluid, and ensure proper engagement of gears.

Check coolant levels and condition, inspect radiator for debris or damage, and ensure proper cooling fan operation.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS Battery: Check battery condition, including voltage and fluid levels if applicable. Ensure terminals are clean and securely connected.

Wiring: Inspect wiring harnesses for damage, corrosion, or wear. Look for exposed wires and ensure proper insulation.

Lights: Test all lights including headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals. Replace any burnt-out bulbs and ensure proper alignment.

BEARING & AXLE INSPECTION Wheel Bearings Inspect wheel bearings for signs of wear, including noise, play, or excessive heat.

Grease bearings if necessary and replace any worn-out components.

Axle Check axle alignment to ensure proper tracking and stability.

Adjust as needed to prevent uneven tire wear and improve handling.

TIRES & TRACKS

Inspect tires for cuts, punctures, and wear. Check tread depth and look for signs of uneven wear patterns.

Ensure tracks are properly tensioned and aligned to prevent excessive wear and improve traction.

Verify tightness of wheel nuts or bolts. Ensure they are properly torqued to prevent wheel loss and maintain safety.

Measure tire pressure using a gauge and adjust as necessary according to manufacturer recommendations.

Inspect spare tires and ensure they are properly inflated.

Carry out any necessary maintenance to ensure they are ready for use in case of emergency.

BELTS AND CHAINS Inspect drive belts for signs of wear, cracks, or fraying. Ensure proper tension and alignment to prevent slippage.

Verify proper tension of chains, ensuring they are not too loose or too tight. Lubricate chains to reduce friction and prevent corrosion.

Inspect chain guards for damage or missing parts. Ensure guards are properly installed to prevent injury and protect the chains from debris.

Study in Kentucky finds seatbelts significantly reduce injuries during tractor overturns, but only when used with a ROPS system, highlighting the critical combination of both safety features.

STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY

Frame Inspection

Welded joints

Conduct a visual inspection of the frame for cracks, bends, or signs of corrosion.

Check welded joints for signs of fatigue, cracks, or incomplete welds.

Rollover Protection Structures (ROPS) Verify the integrity of ROPS components such as roll bars or cages.

BRAKING SYSTEM BRAKE FLUID

Check brake fluid level and condition. Top up or replace brake fluid as needed.

BRAKE PADS

Inspect brake pads wear and thickness. Replace worn-out pads or shoes to ensure reliable braking action.

BRAKE CALIPERS

Check brake calipers for proper operation and inspect drums/discs for signs of wear or damage.

BRAKE LINES

Inspect brake lines and hoses for leaks, cracks, or signs of deterioration. Replace any damaged parts to prevent brake failure.

PARKING BRAKES

Ensure parking brake engages and disengages properly to prevent unintended movement of the equipment.

OPERATIONAL CONTROLS & EMERGENCY SHUT OFFS

Find emergency shut-off switches easily and ensure they stop all operations when activated.

Inspect controls for comfort and ease of use. Ensure there is clear labeling for quick identification.

Identify any safety features incorporated into the operator controls, such as emergency stop buttons or safety interlocks.
