DSISD names new director of safety BY MEGAN WEHRING
DRIPPING SPRINGS – Following suit of other school districts, the Dripping Springs ISD board of trustees named Sirenna Cumberland as the new director of safety on July 25. Bringing nearly 30 years of experience to the district, Cumberland is a law enforcement professional. She has served as a patrol deputy and investigator in Hays County – while also spending six years as a school resource officer at DSISD from 2013 to 2019. During her previous time at DSISD, Cumberland provided security and safety to students and staff. She investigated criminal matters occurring on school grounds, conducted school security inspections, collaborated with administration and teachers to develop crisis plans, and presented proactive education on topics such as digital citizenship, anti-drug, and appropriate device usage. For the past three years, Cumberland has served as a training specialist for the Texas School Safety Center in San Marcos, working with both public schools and the law enforcement community conducting mandated training and ensuring all school-based law enforcement curriculum is updated and consistent. In her new role, Cumberland will provide strategic direction and leadership for DSISD’s safety and security program. “We are thrilled to welcome Sirenna back to DSISD,” said Superintendent Holly MorrisKuentz. “She was an exceptional SRO for us and her most recent experience in training for the Texas School Safety Center really set her apart as the right professional to lead our safety and security program. She brings excellent experience and expertise together with deep relationships with local law enforcement and our local community. I appreciate the board’s full support to bring this important role to DSISD.” Cumberland is slated to begin her new position before the school year starts in August and is expected to report directly to Morris-Kuentz.
