Dreamland celebrates Fourth of July
BY BRITTANY ANDERSON
DRIPPING SPRINGS — Outdoor entertainment and arts venue Dreamland celebrated Independence Day weekend with live music, tons of familyfriendly activities and, of course, fireworks. Dreamland’s Fourth of July festivities kicked off on July 2 with Kids’ Day, featuring a petting zoo, splash pad, playscape, face painting, balloon art and a barrel train ride. Later in the evening, hundreds more showed up as the venue opened for more family-friendly fun, including its signature pickleball court, disc golf and mini golf courses, an art walk to see the venue’s many sculptures, mosaics and murals, lawn games like cornhole and Jenga, and live music from Pat Byrne and Bob Schneider, all before rounding out the night with a fireworks show from its main lawn.

CONDITIONS UNSAFE
Swimming at Jacob’s Well suspended BY MEGAN WEHRING WIMBERLEY – A popular spot for the summer is no longer welcoming swimmers – at least for now. Swimming will not be allowed at Jacob’s Well Natural Area “for the foreseeable future,” according to Hays County officials. This is due to the threat of high bacteria levels, other pollutants and poor visibility that lead to unsafe conditions for
swimming. The area remains open for hiking and other activities including geocaching. Given the unforeseen circumstances, the county will be working with individuals who have reservations affected by the closure. Officials will monitor the conditions on a daily basis and update the public through the county’s website and social media pages.

MEETING THE NEEDS OF OLDER ADULTS
Friends Foundation to host online auction STAFF REPORT DRIPPING SPRINGS – To keep serving the older adult community, the Friends Foundation is hosting an online auction for its 29th annual fundraiser. All proceeds are used to support its services and programs in Dripping Springs. Pecan Grove, formerly known as the Salt Lick Pavilion, where the Friends Foundation has held fundraisers with thousands of attendees
for a couple of decades, has closed indefinitely. “It was difficult,” a Friends Foundation news release stated, “but with little time to consider other venues, we feel it was a necessary decision to begin planning for an online auction, as we’ve had during the pandemic the past two years.” Registration begins and gold tickets ($100 each) will be on sale Monday, Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. Ticket sales end on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. (or when 100 tickets
are sold). The online auction opens Thursday, Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. and closes Saturday, Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. The Gold Ticket winner in the electronic drawing will have his/her pick of one item from the feature items list. The online auction will help sustain programs and services such as Our Daily Bread™, a program providing meals to local area older adults; Philips Lifeline, providing a medical alert device and peace of mind for stay
at home seniors; and Financial Assistance for life’s necessities and emergencies. Businesses and individuals are encouraged to become sponsors and forms will be available soon at thefriendsfoundation. org. Businesses wanting to donate items or gift certificates to be included in the online auction, contact The Friends Foundation at info@ thefriendsfoundation. org or call (512) 5921345.
WIMBERLEY – A finalist for superintendent of the Katherine Anne Porter School was named last week. The board of directors of KAPS announced that Nadine Pabst, the current interim superintendent, is to assume the position. "It is my belief that all students can learn, given a positive and nurturing learning environment,” Pabst said. “My belief is that we are not only growing student knowledge, but also teacher knowledge and capacity. I look forward to being part of the KAPS family and leading the school to exemplary status.” Following the state's required waiting period of 21 days for superintendent appointments, Pabst is to continue in her interim role through the end of July and begin her employment officially as superintendent with a one-year contract on Aug. 1. "Nadine has proven herself already in this role,” said Jordan Elliott, vice president of the KAPS board, in a news release, “as she has jumped into the
