Coach Payne at Hays High School and a few of his students have “Huddled Up” to start a podcast! Check out this episode: “Is Homework Beneficial?”
Digital Learning Barton Bobcats are prepped and ready deliver their structured arguments with evidence and rationale for and against the topic: “Should people be able to own wild animals?” A great deal of research and logic was brought, and choosing the strongest argument was challenging. Clearly there is a potential for many future attorneys.
These Hays Hawks in Ms. Robinson’s class are using their devices to record and edit integrating multiple platforms to create a crisp and clean classroom podcasting recording to discussing the timely topic: the impact of work on academic success and achievement relating to anxiety. Ms. Robinson managed the proposals and recordings using a Google form where students will share a link to their recording.
Students in Ms. Hafemeister’s class at Lehman created different infographics using Adobe Express. Some students chose to do webpages, others chose posters, and others created social media posts.

We have been awarded a grant of 3,000 licenses for Amplify Texas Tutoring! Each elementary campus has been allocated a number of licenses for our struggling readers. ● ● ● ●
Grade bands include eligible students in grades 1-2, 3-5 Amplify provides Office Hours for questions & support Training is required via online module 10 days lesson cycles provided (may take longer as students are not seen every day)

Intervention November 7-9 & 14-15 Elementary campus visits for Emergent Tree coaching will be taking place. The Academic Support Team will be visiting classrooms and we look forward to seeing all of the components in action (the tray). Please encourage your students to attend school on the days before and after our student break.
Some of our students seem to disappear like ghosts around this time of year. Please help us ensure that our students are at school every day and every class period. One easy way to do this is by ensuring that if your students are absent - reach out to the parents/family and let them know that their student was missed and see if they may need assistance. Also, please remember to keep a log of all the parent contacts you make for attendance.
School and District funding comes from the average daily attendance of our students? That is right! The more students come to school, the more we are funded. The less they come…well…the less funds we get.

Gifted and Talented (G/T)
Students in Mrs. Flores’ 3rd grade class are in the process of drafting a game board for science that includes tools of force and motion.
Students in Ms. Comisso’s 2nd grade class work together to build number sentences by using accountable math talk.
Students in Ms. Oosterhuis’ 4th grade class work on district-created extension choice boards during stations.
Students in Mrs. Weaver’s 4th grade class work on decimal art where they got to create their own art using decimals and fractions.
Students in Mrs. Scott’s 4th grade class work use strategies from the book Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics to compare fractions.
Gifted and Talented (G/T) Students in Ms. Homann’s science class completed a lab where they learned to calculate speed. They used the Depth and Complexity icon Big Idea to explain their learning.
Students in Ms. Darnell’s science class completed a choice board where they had multiple options to learn about physical and chemical changes.
Students in Ms. Lantrip’s science class work on an Argument Driven Inquiry regarding how changes in pushing forces affect the motion of an object.
Hays CISD Athletics
Congratulations to our Hays CISD girls and boys water polo teams making the playoffs! The Johnson girls team season ended in the 3rd round but finish the year Area Champions!
Our schools do a great job of honoring teachers for all of their hard work and their contributions to our student-athletes. Also, all of our campuses had very high passing rates in their athletic programs. This helps show the how important athletics can be to help students achieve success in the classroom!
Several of our district basketball coaches were able to attend a basketball and leadership clinic hosted by the staff at Texas A&M with Coach Moffett. They learned about practice organization, scheme, and most importantly some leadership advice from head basketball coach Buzz Williams
Hays CISD Athletics
Tremendous job by all of our middle school athletes and coaches for completing wonderful cross country, volleyball, and football seasons. All of our seasons ended with our feeder patterns middle schools playing one another. Great competition!
On October 6th, we celebrated National Coaches Day! We are blessed to have all of our wonderful coaches here at Hays CISD! Thank you for all you do!
Our weekly coach of the week award is still going strong! It gets it namesake from the longest tenured athletic director in Hays CISD history Bob Shelton! The recipients are nominated by their peers and celebrated with our coach of the week belt and shown off on social media! Thank you coaches!
CTE (COOLEST TEACHERS EVER!) At the end of September, we had the opportunity to surprise Laura Fleming-Holcomb with the Pug at Jack C. Hays High School. Her classes run the scoreboard for the football games & make the weekly video announcements so we are hoping Oscar the Pug will make an appearance! Several of her seniors are also doing internships with The Hays Free Press.
Oscar the Pug wandered down the hall at Hays HS to spend some time with Jaymie Kendrick because she is Pretty Unbelievably Great! She has dogs in the animal science classes almost every day. The students enjoy getting the hands-on experience and it brightens everyone's day when they see a dog coming down the hall!
Our CTE Team headed to Lehman High School and pugged our Printing and Imaging (Yearbook) and Computer Science teacher, Rachel Rodriguez. Ms. Rodriguez is “pretty unbelievably great!” She is new to CTE and we are so happy she’s here in HAYS CISD CTE! Her students are always doing interactive and engaging activities and she always has a positive outlook!

Please be prepared to have a collaborative discussion about how student work is evaluated and how students are given feedback for growth. You can bring audio or video examples. Three examples is appropriate (1 high level, 1 average, and 1 lower level in regards to achievement).

Ms. Marshall at EGES progress monitors her students to keep track of fluency growth. Ms. Morris at EGES teaches her 2nd graders how to use the six syllable types to decode multisyllabic words.
4th grade teachers at KES use the EAA model to group students and plan for small group writing instruction.

Medications at school: if you notice a student to have medications on their person and the campus nurse has not communicated with you that are allowed to self carry, please notify the campus nurse and admin so the parents/guardians of the student may be followed up with. Medication procedures are in place to protect all of our students.
