Amplify Texas Tutoring Update: We have 1133 students enrolled in the intervention support. We still have more licenses for our K-5 students. A majority of our students enrolled are on lesson set number 3. Woohoo! Hopefully you are seeing the gains. FREE SAT and ACT tutoring through Varsity Tutors in ClassLink! Information has been shared with high school lead counselors, CCR counselors and Academic Deans. PSAT 8 and AP Potential lists have been shared with Advanced and AP teachers to help with recruitment into Advanced and AP classes. 8th grade teachers will receive lists today (Friday, February 2) of students whom they should encourage to register for advanced coursework based on their PSAT 8 scores.

ALL Hays CISD Secondary Students have access to Varsity tutors online homework work through May 2025. MS Students will need to locate the Varsity icon in the Library in Classlink. Once they add varsity, then they can access homework help (includes AP level courses through intervention) including the ability to upload and get feedback on their essary. This link has already been added to all HS students’ classlink. There are also FREE Enrichment classes - SAT/PSAT/etc.

Fine Arts Action Items A friendly reminder regarding eligibility. Many fine arts groups are now in competitive seasons requiring academic eligibility to compete. Events requiring eligibility include: Art (VASE, Jr. VASE), Theatre One-Act Play, Dance Contests, Color Guard Contests, & Music competitions. Please help to ensure compliance at all secondary campuses with state eligibility requirements. Note: Band, Choir, and Orchestra Concert & Sight-Reading does not require students to be eligible because this is considered a state evaluation and not a contest. This is used to demonstrate mastery of the course TEKS.

The dyslexia program that we use for Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) should not be used for MTSS intervention. PLEASE SEE Question 9 in FAQs
We continue to experience a shortage in Speech Language Pathologists in Hays CISD and across the nation. Students across the nation are not receiving services as promised. We are informing parents of students who have not services in Hays CISD at ARD meetings and calling them prior to the ARD meeting. We include information in the IEP and in the progress report. If parents reach out to you with questions and/or concerns, please contact Michelle Velasquez, Melissa Corona, or Margarita Limon Ordonez.

NEXT WEEK!!: The TEA-Required Stand Alone Field Tests are happening next week! TEA’s window is 2/5 - 2/9, but we are strongly recommending campuses to test on MONDAY, February 5th to knock out the field test! We will not offer makeups the following day. Campuses are required to treat it like a STAAR test (shut down the campus, etc.). Teachers will need to review the information below and complete the Field Test Oath linked in the document ASAP (if they haven’t already done so:

NEW TEA DOCUMENT: The STAAR Accessibility Educator Guide has been posted and updated over previous years. Check out what TEA has to say about Content & Language Supports on pages 27-28 about how these supports are already being used in classroom instruction! Thank you for getting these supports in all of our Special Education, 504, and EB (testing in English) students’ paperwork so they can utilize them on STAAR! 8th RLA CBA 2 Data Update: It was recently brought to our attention that the weight of the ECR on the 8th grade RLA CBA 2 had not been adjusted from /10 to /5. This has been corrected in Eduphoria, which means the assessment has been rescored for all students. This brings the weight of ECR from ~25% of the overall score down to a more reasonable ~15%. Thank you to MMS for catching this!
